Golf Digest 100 Greatest Public Courses 2023

I played Torrey Pines South today. It was fun, and the views were pretty, but it isn't the 35th best public course in the US. I wouldn't argue if you said it wasn't in the top 100. This was my 13th "Major" or Player's Championship course, and it was a really big outlier from the rest. I thought it was incredibly boring. I have played 40 or so of the top 100 public and I think I could easily say it was the worst. 

 

Conditioning didn't help, they are overseeding next week I guess and the place was an absolute mess.

Knocked off two more courses since my last post, Sheep Ranch (16) and Kapalua Plantation (23). The rankings are a tad high, but both are definitely worthy of spots on the list. 

 

Also played Poppy Hills (87) for the 2nd time. Rating seems about right. 

 

Wanted to play Edgewood Tahoe (89), but I arrived a week after they closed for the season. 

 

Would have been nice to play Manele (22) when I was in Hawaii two weeks ago, but it's yet another pricey stay and play course, the bane of my existence. Lol. Only 13 courses on the list that I haven't played, and only two don't require an expensive hotel stay.

Curious when GD is coming out with their 2015 list. Late July? 

 

Knocked off two more in the last month, The Highlands Course at Primland (25), and The Cascades at Omni Homestead Resort (40). Also got a chance to play Pine Needles (63) for a second time, and Tot Hill Farm, which I expect we'll see on the '25 list. 

 

Highlands was worthy of being on the list, but Cascades I don't know. Certainly not at the #40 spot. 

 

I've now played 89 on the list. Looking forward to the new list coming out.
