ZJ better hope Keegan doesn't know the number of a good button man. He should definitely be on that team, and JT should definitely not. Television officially steers the boat. To those that claim he'll bring it once they tee it up, he's played like @$$ for the better part of a year, and he's suddenly going to become an asset in a competition where the pressure is ratcheted up to the nth degree? Hmmmm

It is but the ranking system isn't perfect hence why the Captain gets picks. Test of the Captain's leadership. Time will tell if he made decent choices.

The koepka pick was appeasement to Liv. He's impossible to leave off bc he played his way on.

Dechambeau and Dustin Johnson were bubbled.

Keegan Bradley and Glover were bubbled.

I don't mind the Fowler pick bc he's played great this year, especially lately.

The JT pick is absolutely favoritism or whatever you want to call it.

Worst pick to me? Morikawa. Has trended nothing but down for an extended period now. I'm sure some stat boy is going to pull some ridiculous number as a counterpoint, but he finds ways to lose not win. At least JT just hasn't played well this year.

I'd replace those two with Dechambeau and probably Cam Young (who was probably the real bubble pickle or Bradley.

IMO, the only reason Keegan is not on the team is Scheffler's friendship with Burns.

I think a lot of people on here forget that the Ryder Cup is not a 72 hole strokeplay competition.

 

He has picked some players based on form and some based on who they will be paired up with, what they can bring to the team room and what format suits their style of play. The Euros have done it in the past and that worked out pretty well did it not?

 

It's not just based on who has played well the last few weeks. If we knew better we would be playing golf for a living and counting stacks of cash, but we aren't.

Glover must have been close, his game would have been idea for the way the course will be set up and probably play. He seems like the type of guy who could play with anyone. 

 

Kegan Bradley has had a great year and all credit to him for it. But I can't see who he would have played with, and he already needs to find a partner for Brian Harman.

meh lets call it the exhibition cup. thats all it is anyway, pga tour/dp tour makes a few million over the course of a week under the guise of some sacred event playing for your "country" why ive lost so much interest in it over the years. if this was truly about playing for your country then morikawa and JT wouldnt have been even close to considered for the team with their overall form this year. too much politics involved these days for me to consider this some great sacred event

Golf is an individual game, player against the course. I am hoping that Zach Johnson makes a statement by having players pick their partners name out of a hat. This would tell the world that he knows all 12 players can shoot 65 any day.

Glover got really hot for ~6 weeks. Aside from that he'd been in the abyss missing 10 cuts of his previous 16 starts. 

 

He'd be a longshot pick. 

His recent form is 10x that of JT.  JT was picked because he’s tigers pick. 100 %.

Neither have jt or burns. But you effectively defend them with "team room" talk. Finau is great for the team room...

In Glover he has been really good for a very long time tee to green, and possibly the worst putter on tour. Now that he is a decent putter I think he would have been an asset to the team.

Golf is player against the course and often times guys play their best when not paired with someone they know or consider a friend. Happens on the PGA Tour every week. 

But, some Captains want to look like they're doing something and the Pod system fits that agenda. I think the Captaincy should be a ceremonial position which honors a veteran players career, nothing more.

I blame the unwillingness of the media to press the difficult questions for the reason some of these things happen. 

 

For example, ask this: "Zach, you talked about the importance of camaraderie and fit in the team room in making some of these picks.  It's abundantly clear that means you need to be in the Boys Club, if you will, and be buddies with guys like yourself, Tiger, Davis, Fred to get a pick if you don't qualify on points.  Make the case for us for JT, who has been out of form over guys like Keegan, Finau and Glover who all have 2 wins this year or a guy like DJ who was 5-0 at Whistling Straits, if you want to point to past performance." 

 

To me, Rickie is the guy skating under the radar.  Finally got a win after 5 years and, while playing well the latter half of the season, has a 3-7-1 Ryder Cup Record. 

 

I don't see how ZJ makes the case the JT is worth a pick because of his past record, despite being out of form, and for Rickie, who might be in some form, but has a terrible RC record.
