G430 5 wood may be the best I’ve ever had

The PING G430 5 wood may very well be the best single golf club I’ve ever used. I go Driver, 3W, 5W. Admittedly I probably don’t need a 3 wood especially at my home track. Only use it on 2 tee balls. Rarely find myself needing 3 wood into par 5’s. 
 

Back to the 5 wood. It is so so versatile for me. One part about my game is I’ve always struggled with taking anything off/flighting/etc. with a fairway wood. The 430 5 wood ticks every box for me. Im able to confidently hit it 245ish(max). Have hit higher cuts at 210 if there’s a lot of wind. I’m just blown away by the versatility of this club. Tee, rough, fairway. It just performs. 
 

Bored tonight and poking around. Been meaning to post it for a while. Figured some gear heads would enjoy hearing it.

I'll file this one under different strokes for different folks.  I love my G430 driver.  But just didn't get along with the 5-wood at all.  I wish I did.  Had some decent range sessions with it. But I never hit a single good shot with it during a round. Not one.

I can't stop hooking my 425max 5wood. What did you not like about the 430 5 wood?

100% user error. I'm just a hybrid guy. I've always struggled to hit fairway woods well for some reason.

I agree, the new Ping 430 5 wood has been in my bag for a month and it is crazy how many times it has saved my bacon.

I have one too and agree its pretty incredible.  I had one, sold it, got a TSR2 and now back to the 430 5 wood.  Its so easy to hit, looks great and flies perfect.

I have the 3 and 7 woods and love them both. So easy to hit and elevate.

I’ve never been much of a fairway player, but the G430 line has changed all that for me.  Have the LST 3 and Max 5 and 7.  Trying to narrow it down to just 2 heads but they all are just so good.

 

I just wish the max heads didn’t sit closed on the standard settings.  They both look perfect to my eye on the big minus.

Is it further than the 425??? I bought 430 5 wood but haven't played it--- due to bad gout from eating too much shellfish.

Which model do you have? I'm thinking about replacing my trusty Adam's tight lies, but I love that club, it's just so versatile. But I've a gap to fill and two point fairways might just do that

Have 3 wood then 3 hybrid and 4 hybrid. I really really wanted a 5 wood/7wood but my fitter at Ping said I have too much height and he strongly recommended a hybrid over a wood for that 5/7w gap. I to only use 3 wood for a couple tee shots a round, my initial fitting I was 3 wood playing one weak, 4h, 4i. But I realized 4h and 4i go about the same distance and 4h is WAY easier to hit so I ditched it. Then I put 3w back to normal loft and created that little 245-250y gap I needed to fill and he liked hybrid. Absolutely love the whole line of non irons, hybrids to 3w to D.

I have been on an extremely wasteful fairway wood search. No luck with anything until I tried the g430s. Started with the 5 wood. It is an exceptional club. Then added a 9 which has been even better. Finally a 3 and 7. 

 

Crazy that I own all four, but they just work. There is a chance that I play my 300 mini over the 3 wood, but still working that out.  Best fairways I have owned and I've owned them all.

Agree 100% on this.   It is possibly the most confident club in my bag...with the exception of putter. 

 

I don't hit it nearly as long as you, It fits to about 180 to 190 for me.   But on my home course, I have a few holes that require a 160 yard carry on my 2nd shot over an environmental area.  I could probably get my 5 iron over, but I'm much more confident that the 5 wood is going to carry it easily and leave me in good shape.   There is another par 3 that with a back pin plays to 190 yards, and is surrounded by water right and long,  bunker then OB left and leaves room for  short "layup"   But with the 5 wood I know its going to go high and land soft. 

 

The PING Fariwaywoods in general just are the easiest to hit off the turf of any I've tried.

Just got this 5 wood lofted down to 16.5 degrees to replace my Stealth 3 wood which was spinning far too low for me. Higher ball speed better flight/carry and only a few total yards shorter but it will ✋️ rather than running out a country mile. Much more versatile for me.

My G430 5W is the best fairway wood I ever owned.  I have always struggled with fairway woods, but there is something about this club I love.  I have confidence to hit it anywhere.  It will be in my bag for the foreseeable future.

I play G430's in driver, 3w, and 7w.

 

There are times I wish I had a 5w, but it's so rare where I play. 5w would be around a 225 shot for me.

I have a G425 5 wood and I turned it up to 16.5* and dumped the 3 wood

I have never looked back

If you are only hitting your 3 wood twice in a round, give that a try and open up a spot in your bag.

I am afraid of trying the G430 simply because I do not want to like it

Plus I am hitting my 5 wood very well now (I am sure I just screwed myself by saying this out loud)

Played mine all last year.  Played in the small minus.  Only fairway I carry or need.  Does everything well.  Tee 👍, fairway👍.  I'll try some of the new offerings this year, but would have to be something special to move on from.

I take it all back.  I so wanted to love it last fall and just couldn't find any magic.  I sold it and went back to the Cleveland Hy-wood.  Long story short, I had some Second Swing Credit to burn and thought I'd try a 5-wood again.  I was playing well last August, so it was frustrating that I couldn't make the 5-wood work.

 

I got a 425...hated it and used the playability program and a trade to get a G430 a couple of weeks ago. I played 3 rounds including a league round and match play event. Good frickin grief! It is SO sneaky long and feels so good at impact.  I was great from the tee and the deck.  I take it all back.

 

The funny part is I still haven't been to the range with it. The first one I had was great at the range but I struggled in rounds with it.

My g410 5 wood cracked - i replaced it with the g430 head (kept the same ventus red shaft) and it is launching noticeable higher and around 10 yards longer than my g410. 

 

I only have about 4 rounds in with it so far but seems like another winner from PING!

Sometimes, you just get the shaft that works for you, and you are all set.  They may all look the same in the store (shafts, that is) but they do not all play the same.
