Whilst I think Luke Donald is a fantastic player (world number one etc) and will be a great RC Captain in Rome this year I still feel that it is a pity that Henrik Stenson has lost his chance (I’m sure he realised this when he went to LIV golf) but he would have been a worthy captain - great wit and charm one of the most gifted golfers Europe has produced in the last 20 years - hopefully once the hatchets are buried he might get another shot at it - Just sayin.

Also for the picks - don’t rule out Alex Fitzpatrick- now that would be an interesting choice along with Matt and throw in the Hojgaards - two sets of brothers - mama Mia!!!

Definitely a future RC player but no chance he gets picked now.

MacIntyre is playing very well. One bad hole yesterday has likely ruined his chances to win.

He’s streaky - like all Scottish players but if he gets the bit between his teeth he is a killer! A bit like Hatton with fewer tantrums! Hehe - that’s the way with great match players it seems to me! I don’t think any players however accomplished on the USA team would like to go against Bob or Tyrrell in their pomp - they are class match players through and through!

In terms of the Ryder Cup Luke Donald must be a happy man at the moment. When you consider what a potential team looked like when he was appointed compared to now it looks so much better.

Crans is already one of my favourites events of any year plus we have the RC qualification jeopardy, can't wait for it to start.

Two time champ Matt Fitzpatrick is in the field.

Like Phil, I'm not a betting man; but if I were, I'd have a few quid on Bob getting a pick.

A good head on his shoulders, a grittiness, and a solid game that would pack out the team nicely. A good foursomes man.

I actually think he'll be an even better fourball player - he makes a LOT of birdies but has the odd blow up hole.  He's in a strong position not to need a pick; hope he holds off the chasers this week.

Situation is now this as per Nosferatu, were Bob to miss the cut.  Also, if Paul wins the event then I believe he gets 3rd even if Bob does OK:

You may be right. His birdie tally is certainly impressive. That odd blow up hole is the thing that seems to hold him back. He'll be sailing along, four or five birdies on the card, only to throw in a drive that rivals one of Stenson's when he was in the midst of his driving yips that's off-the-planet wide and results in a double or triple bogey. Take away the lost balls and OB drives, and he'd have had a very good season this year and probably a couple or three more wins than he has so far stacked up in his short career.

I rate the lad highly, and like the way he plays the game and conducts himself. In an era where a lot of the stalwarts of Ryder Cups past are hanging up their spikes, and where Europe urgently needs to find new 'anchor' players, he strikes me as someone that could play an important role in Ryder Cup teams for the next decade or so.

Just love watching Crans! Can first remember watching it when I was a kid when Eduardo Romero just seemed to blast driver everywhere and run away with it by I think about 10 shots.

Good times... Eduardo Romero won by 10 shots in 2000.

Loved his smooth Argentinian power.

RIP El Gato.

Maybe the tide has turned for Adrien. He holed his second shot at his opening hole today for an eagle. Very early but currently sitting at the top on -2 alongside Ludvig Aberg (my tip for this week).

Åberg has a good number of really successful Thursday/Fridays and an almost equal number of not so successful Saturdays. Pretty typical for fellow citizens - individual winnings, celebrated by gorilla like bumps on own chests aint really a part of our culture.  Seems like the first part of the equation is going to be fulfilled, I gonna watch Saturday play with interest.

At the turn, the Ryder Cup hopefuls group is nicely poised in R1 - Paul -3, Bob -2, Meronk -1.

Shame that by the time Sky in the UK starts their coverage this group will be in the clubhouse.  At least we can watch them tomorrow pm.

You’re right. Do you think this habit saves hotel bills for the Sky crew for one night ? It’s quite pathetic actually. Maybe they have a Scottish accountant LOL.

Ummm, Hovland?

They have a screwy system.  There are 3 spots from the world rankings, 3 spots from European Tour rankings.  That table is likely filtered out from the world rankings?  They use the carrot of RC spot to "force" guys to play ET events.  Hovland is likely in from the other list, or hasn't played enough events on the ET to make that list.

Yeah - Europe has two points systems with three qualifiers each - European (to reflect their own tour) and World.  Hovland, Hatton and Fleetwood are in qualification spots through the World points.

It’s geared to exclude old favourites now at LIV just in case Poulter and Westwood flukes some ranking points.

One of my favorites as well.  Would love to go there but I suspect it is beyond expensive.  Absolutely love it though.
