Certainly the people advising him are not aware. There are quite a few players who hit it hard no matter what the club. with Victor Hovland being a prime example.

Hovland is one of my favorite players to watch play golf. He doesn't swing his driver at 95%.....Most go at it 85-90%.  The bombers are dialing it back because accuracy is more important, and the body is not sustainable swinging out your shoes on a daily basis. With Tony Finau being a prime example.

If he doesn't go at it 95% it must be 94.999. I about got a backache watching him on the last few holes of the tour championship. Minjee's brother is another one who goes at the driver pretty much all out. The general rule used to be swing as fast as you can while maintaining your balance. Rory maintains hi balance just fine. I think his caddy needs to whack him in the head and remind him to aim a bit to the side of the pin where the hazard isn't unless it's the last hole or two and he needs to make up strokes on the leader

The caddy is his problem, don't think he has the mind or the gumption to tell Rory to play to the safe side of the flag...

I've been a fan of Rory since he was in his teens and after he won 4 majors so quickly in such convincing fashion I thought he would make double digits easily.  Present day I don't see that happening.  Now he's just known for hitting it long and blowing big chances.  No wedge no putter = no greatness.

He’s still top of that tour this season, 2nd in the world, won the Players Championship, 2nd in majors, won the Fed Ex Cup multiple times, won 23 events on the PGA and European Tours since he last won a major.

I dunno it’s immensely frustrating days like this and close calls in majors but also his winning rate week to week is still as good as almost anyone in the game today. And he’s still one of the best players in the world year after year. I don’t think he gets enough credit for the consistency compared to someone like Spieth who has been all over the place and was tipped to win more majors than Rory by many.

Golf is hard to win, he won’t hit double digits, I don’t think Rory will ever win the Masters. But if he keeps putting himself in position I can definitely see him winning one of the other three. Some day it will fall right for him again. And when he wins another he might get to 7 or 8. Who knows.

I get it.  I'm a big fan and root for him to win when he is on top of the leaderboard but his closure rate imo is rather to put it mildly (very low percentage).  After watching you know who close so many of them out and virtually never lose a 3rd round lead it is frustrating.  IMO his severe lack of a wedge game and severe inconsistent putting cost him the Open in 2022 and a US Open in 2023.  Yes he is that good despite being what I can see is a very  lackluster wedge and putter.

I see this narrative all the time except there is evidence to the contrary, for some reason it persists.

There are a number of issues with Rory no doubt. One being that everybody, especially Sky Sports, only ever big him up with few telling home truths like they do with other golfers. He is the best ball striker in the world and clearly almost the best player. But he seems to have a yip for winning. Exactly the same this tournament. After an eadgle he missed a one foot putt on Friday, I think it was. Then yesterday he hit the front at the turn and proceeded to have three lapses that cost him the tournament. It doesn't matter how brilliant he was in between, they were amateur level blunders. I mean he went in the water twice and a greenside ditch when he was really close to the green. Other pros don't have his game but they also don't have as many major lapses of the frequency and magnitude of Rory. It's in his head not in his swing and until he admits that he won't overcome it.

Bunch of little snippets coming out of the DP Tour event press conferences today.  Aberg and Hovland beat Rory and Tommy in a best-ball format during Ryder Cup practice.  Didn't make it past the 16th hole.

Wentworth is such a glorious course for watching an event on TV, my second favourite, next to AGNC. I think I have never missed watching at least part of any event played there or the past 40 years or so. I have even made my peace with the changes to the 18th hole.
If there were a poll amongst European fans, where a Ryder Cup should be played, I guess Wentworth would win by a mile.

A Jon Rahm interview is simply worthwhile - no platitudes, motherhood statements or bland responses.

Speaks intelligently, responds to questions spontaneously and with meaning.

The course walking interview he just gave was such.

Oh, and what a wonderful golfer.

He's a great watch for me - anything can happen from sublime golf to blow-ups accompanied with emotions and verballing himself.

Can be quite funny too - the 'never had such a difficult lie' or the like when referring to hitting an iron off a tee peg last week was a gem.

Last week David Howell suggested to Dom Holyer that they just record the apologies and just hit the button.

Last week Hatton hit a tee shot somewhere he didn't intend to, and his comment was something about the lie being a tough one....

And yet they never apologise for the language of the female Australian commentator, who turns English grammar into a dog's dinner in every other sentence she utters.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

I don't think Rahm is a bad guy, but he needs to get over the fact that cameras are going to stay on him everytime the s*** hits the fan or he thins one into the face of the bunker.

And this is someone who thinks microphones on players isn't worth the bandwidth in 99.9% of rounds, and cameras get too close at times. But Rahm acts like he's getting a colonoscopy by an IMAX camera.

Are you talking about Alison Whitaker?

... or Kate Burton/ Trish Johnson? (Brits, but due perhaps to their long association with Ali Whitaker... they kinda sound similar?)

I haven't been able to catch her name. You might be correct, because her name is the only one I could find on Google when searching for female commentators on the DP World Tour. Just like her compatriot Ian Baker-Finch on US broadcasts, she has no clue when to use the objective case of personal pronouns.
Why anyone could think that "There are overhanging limbs between he and the hole" is correct, is beyond me. It drives me crazy, when I think back of all the hours I was drilled to do it correctly, when I learned English as a foreign language in school.
Call me grammar nazi, if you will, but I find it especially annoying when people obviously think that using "me" or "him" is always wrong and "I" or "he" is somehow more sophisticated, just because some uneducated people use "me" as a subject incorrectly in some cases.

Other commentators called her "Ali" in the afternoon coverage, so you are probably right.

@avrag sure…I’d prefer Iona Stephen over Ali Whitaker

… but I suspect @Rapidcat might send me a “🤬🖕” for suggesting Ali Whitaker’s removal (proud Aussie! Fair dinkum! 🦘 🇦🇺)
