Is this a rhetorical question? LOL, I kid. The TP Reserve is a solid putter line. They feel incredible and as others have mentioned, they sort of got lost in the shuffle and went under the radar a bit and were perhaps priced a bit too high.
$250 new for one of these putters is a great price. These are still going new for €429, which is approximately $470.

what’s the consensus on how they feel vs Scotty, Bettinardi etc?

I think they feel better than Scotty Camerons and just as good as Bettinardis. Bettinardis have more face  milling varieties though compared Scotty Camerons in recent years.

Feel is very subjective. I would roll what you’re potentially going to buy before purchasing if that’s an option.

the TP reserve seemed very much DOA when they came out. Initially overpriced and didn't really stand out amongst the other guys. They also released before their Olsen acquisition, which still seems underwhelming at this point. I feel the replacement is going to be an OlsenTM collab for the future like SC was for Titleist, and Toulon was for Callaway, but I guess we'll see with time.

A few have mentioned this as a possible outcome (including me), as the collab would seem meaningless if they don't do something 'Logan Olson by Taylormade' etc. etc. I guess time will tell how committed TM is to this specific segment in the category of premium blade putters where more and more are migrating to high MOI mallets - It's a tough sell as Scotty has such a stranglehold in particular...

Does TM need this? Not sure, and sometimes it pays to stay in your lane, but why acquire Olson in the first place? You either do this to acquire marketshare (N/A), elminate a competitor (N/A), or purchase a brand/reputation that resonates in the market to add shareholder value (N/A)...

It still seems to be a bit of a mystery.

I think a TM line of Olson putters is unlikley with how Olsons putters have pretty much flopped with TM staffers, kind of a shame because he makes some great looking sticks.

I guess if reserve line flopped, olson flopped, just run with more spiders. I personally can't stand them.

Apart from the popular opinion here, the fact is the Anser-style blades are finally beginning to go out of style. More and more tour pros are moving towards mallets and the fact is, apart from blade fanatics, mallets with high-tech/high-MOI are winning the day, and niche players such as Olson, TP Mills, etc. etc. will be relegated to cult status...

I actually believe milled face putters are also fading as inserts just have so much tech that assists the roll of the ball that anyone using a milled face putter will more and more be at a disadvantage. This thought is very unpopular here of course but the masses speak volumes and mallets are selling more than blades.

Ultimately, Taylormade should have stayed in their lane and continue promotion of tech that has proven to be a winning formula (Spider). The pressure from the milled-face fanatics that TM's putters could never be taken seriously (Ask our newly crowned Fedex Cup Champion) if they didn't introduce a line that would cater to the cultists was overwhelming however, hence why they moved to the TP Reserve line - A product that has seemingly failed as the tech is not as relevant today, and the perception that even these high-quality milled putters were somehow inferior to others in the market. It was a lose lose proposition...

We'll see what they ultimately do w/Olson, but it seems more and more an acquistion that simply won't payoff.

There was speculation of a Olson retail line, but not sure that would make sense at this point. Probably just abandon that area altogether.

Couldn't resist pulling the trigger on TP Reserve B29 - Hope to hit 'bombs' with it LOL!

Seriously, hit one at a local retailer and it just felt really good. I'll change the Lamkin grip to the Golf Pride Taylormade Pistol, and I'll add heavier weights as it was touch light. The sound off the face, the feel was excellent and with the current sale prices it's a bit of a steal...

Don't need it, been putting well w/ the My Spider X but I'm the epitome of a WRX Putter 'Ho. (Been good for over a year, so had to cave sometime). 😆

Ended up using the 17g weights vs. the stock 7.5g...

This is a lovely stick, sinking everything of course as it goes w/all new putters, don't think it will knock my 'MyTM Spider X3's' out of my bag but really enjoying going back to the blade for the moment. Just wondering which will end up in the bag for the 9 round/5 night Orlando buddies extravaganza in late March? Thinking it could be the B29.

We'll see!

Yeah, I always buy putters in 2’s with different weight configurations…

Heavier for slower greens, lighter for faster, etc.

How would you compare to the Hydroblast Bandon #1?

There are 3 obvious comparison points:

  1. Insert vs. milled face: I've played w/both, and I have to say TM does inserts for a reason, they provide more flexibility to control feel, forgiveness and roll than simply milling the face of 303 head (This is very subjective, but I have to say although I love the look of my TP Reserve B29s, the 'MyTP Sotos' I used to game simply felt better and more forgiving to me)
  2. Shaft: Premium 'no-step' KBS shafts on the Reserves, stepped slightly lower quality shafts on the Hydro Blasts
  3. Cost: Although it appears both Hydro Blasts and Reserves are now part of TM history, you can still find new in various online or other retailers, you will likely pay at least $100 (if not more) for the Reserve vs. the Hydro Blast couterparts

The rest is personal preference as is the case with most golfer/putter relationships.

Good luck.

Just a final comment on these beauties...

Spoke to a guy who is a pro at a Toronto course and a TM 'staffer'. He loves the Reserve line, and joked w/me the powers that be are quite p*ssed and how this line bombed (Sorry, again w/the B29 reference)...

Apparently, some of the brass at TM stated, 'People begged for TM to produce premium, milled face putters and as soon as we delivered - Nothing'. Apparently frustrated to say the least on the uptake on these amazing sticks regardless of YouTube positive reviews, etc.

I'm primarily a Spider guy, and love my 'Tour X3's', however the aesthetics of my B29 blades continue to lure me back on occasion. It's in my bag now as I've been on some tracks with slower greens of late and I find the blade performs well for me in these conditions.

Who knows for how long, but I really appreciate the look of these, and for those who are value minded, pick'em up while you can at the ridiculous low prices that are out there now - Even if it's to be kept as a putter in 'reserve' while you game something else.

We'll see what the Logan partnership brings, but I suspect TM will now be further 'all in' on inserts and mallets for the foreseeable future.

I think it flopped cause no staffer was playing them, they didn't do anything with advertising and the price point was in line with a Scotty so most people just went "I'll just buy a Scotty".

I do think a lot of them are nice especially the flow neck blades and if they had a MyReserve line where you could customize these mainly alignment i probably would have had one in my bag as a travel putter.

OK none of the household names played them. I remember now seeing a few in some WITB posts, some without the retail face milling as well which also could have been an issue.

I think one other thing i heard or read was that the tour rep for TM putters knows the Spider line so well they can basically get whatever the player wants feel wise in a Spider outside of obviously the looks of a blade.

It was just something TM expected would be a hit but didn't do the work for it at release. Every brand has one or several and this will probably kill any future milled putters from TM.

Gosh.  They really should have made them better looking.  Take a look at the really good circle Ts and put out similar designs.  Black with minimal face milling would have been sick.  I'm sure these are very nice putters.  I've never rolled one before.  It's just a very crowded market.  TM is doing awesome in the Spider realm.

If Titleist isn't making their putters look like CTs why would TaylorMade make their putters look like a boring CT?

If this is the case with the higher ups at TM, then sounds like they should practice some basic reflection on why this line bombed the way it did. If so they wouldn’t have to dig too deep to discover that with their “premium” line of putters they failed to offer some very basic options on a “premium” putter line.  The most basic option that was lacking was the ability to have loft and lie adjusted/custom ordered. Offering a few different shaft options such as basic chrome, black steel, or stability shafts would’ve been more appealing. The ability to choose or offer different alignment options (ie topline and sight dot). Also the headcovers weren’t very appealing either. There are many areas where they missed on this line and overlooked details.
