Country Club of Roswell vs Horseshoe Bend Country Club (Roswell, GA)

Looking to join in next 6 months or so.  Received info from CC of Roswell before as part of a general tour last year   and have talked to membership director at Horseshoe Bend prior to moving here but they don’t give out financials without a tour.  Curious to get take of anyone who is a member of either of the 2, overall quality of courses/conditions, pool, etc., as well as any updated info on financials (initiation and monthly) and waitlist. 

 

Wife and I are both 36.   3 kids who would use pool.  Former college golfer who plays maybe 1-2 days a week most weeks , with more during summer months after work if family goes out of town to visit in-laws for a few weeks.  
 

We live just off Canton Street in Roswell so both are across 400 so commute certain times a day is understood but I work from

home most days with flexible hours so not a huge issue to time it right.

I communicated with the membership director at Horsehoe about 20 months ago and the initiation fee at that time was $10,000, which seemed pretty reasonable for that club and the area but also has probably gone up since I would guess. Dues were in the $700 range if memory serves. That said, they were also quoting at least a 2-year wait to get in at that point.

 

Also talked to CC of Roswell around the same time and I think the initiation fee was about $7500 and dues were in the $575 range. Wait list was 3 months.

 

My limited experience having seeing each would be that Horeshoe was the more impressive facility across the board. Can't speak to the quality of the memberships, however.

 

I see that Brookfield's not on your list, which is absolutely the right call. I live about 2 miles from Broofield and ended up joining. It was a horrific experience and I dumped it after less than a year.

I think HB is generally better all around, although both are nice and reasonably priced.  HB has a sole owner who likes to pour money into the club.  Great tennis facility.  Easy drive from your house.  HB has a reputation for being a great course.  I think generally chill membership as well.

Don't sleep on Golf Club of Georgia membership which includes a membership at Horseshoe Bend.   Much better golf.

I lived and worked in Roswell for almost 40 years, and know all the courses mentioned quite well.  I know much less about the club amenities, and for a young family with kids, that is a big deal.  I’m sort of assuming that is why you haven’t mentioned Rivermont, which is the best GOLF club in Roswell, but doesn’t have swim and tennis, etc.

 

Horseshoe Bend is hands down a better golf course than CC of Roswell, and by a lot.  If you live off Canton St, the drive times down Holcomb Bridge won’t really be much different; you’ve got to get across 400 to either one.  But CC of R is a good course, so it may be that financials and amenities will be the deciders?
 

So in addition to the initiation and monthlys, including minimums, I’d want some info about practice facilities, difficulty of making weekend tee times, and the ownership structure.  BIG difference in the way for-profit clubs operate vs member owned clubs or single owner clubs.  I’ve been gone from the area long enough now to just not know enough about those things.

Hey everyone, looking to get more insight on this thread. I am choosing between HB and CCR right now. From what I saw - HB blows CCR out of the water with Clubhouse, practice facilities, dining, locker room, and course conditions.

 

However, HB charges $15 walking fee even without a cart (I've never in my life heard of a country club charging walking fees. What is the point of dues?) Additionally, walking is restricted to after 1pm/3pm in the Summer. HB seems pretty strict on guests, limited number of visits, $20 range fee for guests, etc. 

 

My question, is HB THAT much better that CCR to justify all of this? I know nothing about CCR's golf course but I was not impressed with their clubhouse. It seemed outdated and lacked personality. I could get over that if they renovate and if the course is really good. I'm not sure I can get over the walking fees and restrictions at HB. Any insight is appreciated!
