Great topic but not as clear IMO as their prior videos. Maybe better illustrations or a gears example of what people do wrong commonly would help.

Watched some.of that video last night. It was difficult to digest. The whole trail leg thigh angle stuff was just confusing. I moved on from the video once they lost me there. 

 

I fixed my slide and it was a ton easier than what they note...

 

1. Lead side pressure before p4

2. Lead hip works around and AWAY FROM THE TARGET almost immediately as thr arms come down...between p4 and p5 but not super fast

3. Lead shoulder works up and away from the target starting no later than p5.

 

My slide was gone.

 

If you start the downshift (Lead side pressure) too late then you have to slide or hang on the trail side.

You don't need a ton of consciously moving parts that slow down your natural reflexes. The key to the swing is learning to use small pinpoint areas of the anatomy to create the motion.

guy in video has kind of a saggy bent lead knee throughout the downswing and impact. Not saying it is a bad thing but I bet most instructors would try to fix that.

Good video. Cleans up relationship of hip & knee joints a bit. There's times I feel real good doing this and times I don't and it just might be the saggy knee thing.

Maybe @MonteScheinblum can weigh in, but it looks to me like the slap shot drill in one of his series (broom force I think) addresses this? The drill is to sweep the trail foot backwards (behind you, perpendicular to the target line) like you see in hockey. Seems like that would train getting the trail hip angle opening while keeping the feet grounded.

So it happened to be a range day and I worked with this  a bit and found that I had to slow down hip action because it's much more efficient movement pattern to go by AMG's advice. I liken it to a manual gearbox (that's tilted down) where left hip goes between 1st & 2nd, and right starts in 3rd, goes to 4rth and then down shifts to 1st as left drops to 2nd.. The last is the key move for me. Also key is trail knee stays under hip in such a way thigh maintains a vertical look.Good stuff, might be best description of hip to knee relationship I've seen.

Good catch. The video is Mike Dunaway from a Sybervision video he did in the 80s. He was an iconic long driver who was coached by Mike Austin.

 

Dunaway at age 50, his golf swing is simply a throw. His pivot is sequenced to support the throwing action of his right arm, that's all there is to it.

yeah, not much vertical would show up on force plates I would imagine. Probably not a bad thing if you have knee issues or trying to avoid them. Kyle on the other had has a ton of vertical.

Yep, they used their joints to apply force to the golf ball differently than Kyle.

 

Mid 90s, Dunaway was 40 using a Big Bertha driver.

And he also pushed up with his legs well after impact. He could have driven it longer if he wasn't ol saggy knees.

I don't think I see what you see. Admittedly I likely don't fully understand what I'm looking for... but one of these isn't like the other (I threw in Koepka because I know you like his swing)

Combined 91 tour wins and 6 majors

 

Tour record... ? He could smack it far.

Listening to these guys is hard to do . I'd rather bang my head against the wall . I can't imagine them being good at what they do .
