Does anyone have any information/details about the AVX release?

I received some test golf balls last release around this time so was wondering if anyone has seen those.

Yeah didnt understand the tour speed , Tru Feel was the same two piece ball.

LOL. the Tour Speed is a 3 piece urethane ball. The Tru Feel is a 2 piece ionomer (surlyn) ball. Please explain how they are the same. I mean outside of them both being round and made by Titleist there isn't anything the same about them.

Completely new ball named AVX.

Still low spin but at a lower price point.

Tour speed disappearing.

So the AVX will be replacing the Tour Speed?

I've hit both and I think the AVX is by far the better ball.

Well you can call it replacing it or not.  The AVX will keep the cast urethane cover vs the TPU of the Tour Speed, but will have some of the TS technology, and will be repositioned price wise to fall between the twos current price.

ahhh ok. That makes sense. I guess if it performs the same (or better?) as the 2022 version at a lower price point, I will be extremely happy

Titleist is notoriously quiet on their new ball releases until they are ready to go all in with their advertising, so I'm curious where you're getting this info.

I remember some threads on here where someone was claiming that starting in 22 the AVX would no longer exist based on "inside information."  And then there were claims that there would be no AVX in 2023, again supposedly based on talking to people from Titleist.  We see how both of those claims turned out...

You are correct on both accounts.  They are historically tight lipped.  And I have been told things before that didn’t turn out 100% correct—neither of the above example though.

I didn’t make it up. But only time will tell if it’s accurate or not. I’m not trying to break any big secrets just passing on info I was told.

It certainly makes sense that they would try to consolidate these two balls.

I guess if it changes drastically there is always the harder left dash

The left dash is designed to be on the lower spin side of things, but other than that, the AVX and left dash are very different balls.  As you know, the left dash is a lot harder, but more importantly for someone like me, the left dash flies much higher.  So when I did my Titleist ball fitting we quickly ruled out the left dash because I need a lower flight.  If Titleist drops the AVX then I'll just move to the regular Pro V1 since those were very similar balls for me.

I think it would be an odd move to combine the AVX and Tour Speed into a single ball... right now when Titleist does ball fittings (and with their online selector tool) they compare V1, V1x, Left Dash, and AVX.  The "lower tier" balls are not included in that conversation.  From the person/people you talked to, is the plan for Titleist to basically move the AVX to the lower tier and largely ignore it, or will it still be considered a top tier ball just at a lower price point?

I had a wedge fitting with my pro. I am one of a few that play AVX at my club.  He said if I like the current AVX to stock up as it's going to be a different ball next year.

I had noticed from a ball fitting earlier in the year that the Pro V1 and AVX were getting closer to each other in terms of performance.

AVX spinning more around the green and the Pro V1 spinning less on longer shots. Still a difference in feel though.

Nothing specific was said as to where in the hierarchy it would sit, only that it would be priced between lower than it currently is (same as Prov Line) but more than the Tour Speed.   So it's amost creating an new tier so to speak.

i play the AVX. My worries is the specs will change because it will be at a lower price point. Hope they keep the cast urethane cover.

I'm almost certain the cover will stay the same.  But I guess we shall see.

Will be a shame if the Tour Speed gets replaced by something similar to the AVX, as from trying both I find the Tour Speed the much better ball. Better flight and feel off the long clubs, much more spin round the greens, doesn't feel like a marshmallow off the putter.

In fact I'd go so far as to say my least favourite ball in the Titleist range is the AVX.

  • 2 weeks later...

Change AVX?  I suspect change to AVX is possible.

I carry 2 AVX for bad weather, but rely on more firm ProV1x and harder DASH -ProV1x for most rounds.  What I don't like about AVX is it's as soft as ProV1.

According to my pro (who has all Titleist in the pro shop) for 2024 the tour speed is gone and the avx will no longer be tour ball price equivalent.  They are changing the cover (certainly due to lower price).  Apparently the cover will be new

and similar to the tour speed but improved on that cover.  I am guessing that will mean less green side spin.
