Bought the insert from spryevo, knew I wasn’t going to use the pure roll insert anymore so I torched the insert off, cleaned the inside and glued this insert in.  The insert added some weight to the head but nothing drastic, I think the sound damper they installed in these new spider putter helps out with feel and sound.

Looks good man!  I would have destroyed the putter if I tried an experiment like that.

11g weights were the stock in mine, probably gonna go either 2,4, or 6 gram in it. Play 2g in my old spider. at 37 inches with a pro cord grip

I didn't order the 'Proto', but ordered 2 of the 'My' Spider Tour X (X3 specifically, 34.5") and like adding weight as I've done w/my previous versions of Spider Tours as stock is typically a bit too light for me...

 

Are you sure the 'stock' weights were 11g? (To confirm, 2x11g). The reason I ask is the stock 'wing' weights on the previous Spider Tour versions were 2g, and I would add 2x6g to give it a bit more heft.

 

Although the weights on the new versions of 'Spider Tour X'  are slightly forward of where the previous 'wing' weights were on the previous generation Spider Tours, I'm surprised how heavy the weights are if you are correct at 11g a side in the stock 'proto'.

 

Please confirm if you don't mind that I'm not misunderstanding. 

 

(PS: I have a T20 torque wrench, but did you find that worked for the screws in your case?).

Can confirm, the weights on the underside of the proto were 11g each at 34". They had 11g ingraved on each when you flip them over. maybe that set was to match the 34 length with the stock superstroke grip and the kbs shaft they offer.

 

below i placed a link to the tool i used to screw the weights as a regular torque wrench didnt fit. Originally tried to get a hex key set but wasn't available, this one worked just fine.

if i remember correctly i mightve had to go smaller and use the t15 size from this tool or the t10, may be different because its a starkey pattern im not sure.

I had a feeling the standard T20 may not work - Appreciate it. 

 

Perhaps the 'Proto' is heavier weighted as most pros prefer a weightier flat stick (Okay, a very broad assumption). Just found out the stock weights in the 'off the shelf' Spider Tour X are only labelled at only 1g...

 

Makes sense as the customized versions I've had in the past with the added 6g weights added to each wing felt much heavier.

Agree 5 to 6g adding to stock offerings have made a nice difference. Heavier but not too much. At least with all my Scotty Cameron’s I’ve added 5g to each heal and toe weight. Makes them feel nice. 
Not sure if I would add much more. At least I never tried to.

Only putter weights I want I can find are sliver at the moment. 
It is cold here and don’t see myself getting on the course now until spring . Going to have to hold out for some black ones

I've ordered a plethora of aftermarket black ones in varying degrees of weights. I'll tinker to see what is the best for me...

Hey @swoosh21, ordered mine from Amazon AND Ebay. All appear to be very similar looking, and I received the first just yesterday...

 

I traded in my 'off the shelf' Spider X3's for a pair of 'My' Spider X3's with a bit customization, preferred colour scheme, etc. They are supposed to arrive in the next couple of weeks where I will add the new weights, tinker, etc. (Excited as hell of course!). These come in and out of stock on TMs site based on returns, that is what a guy from

my club said who wanted one.  I hope they release a full line with different neck options in the future.  Probably wishful thinking at this point though🤷

Agreed!  I will say, I like the way the Olson putters look.

The Proto kicked my PLD out of the bag for next year.  Love how it sets up.  Just very easy to align.  All practice has been indoors, though, so I am curious how the feel/sound changes outdoors.  
 

For those who live in warmer states, how has your lag putting been with the Proto?

It's been love from the first roll with the Proto in the bag. The balance and feel off the face is some of the best I have ever experienced. If youi get a chance, no question give it a go!

Same, the Proto w the Accra Sync shaft has found a permanent spot in the bag replacing the PLD custom.

Still loving mine. Installed a LA shaft and got some heavier weights to bring the headweight up to 366 grams. I have Scotty’s, a custom Mackmade, and a few other really nice putters but I’ve been rolling the spider proto. I’ve always loved the spider shape but hated inserts.

Thanks! They were 17 gram weights off of Amazon. They fit perfectly, just use the original screws that came with the putter. This is the listing I got them from.

Awesome @scotty_2987 - I bought from the same vendor (Just waiting on my 'My Spider Tour X' to arrive. I've heard the same that the screws that come with these won't fit properly, and to use the 'native' black screws that come with the putter. What size 'Torx' wrench did you need? (I've heard a few different answers on this)...

 

On a final note, 17g a side seems massive, but it sounds like for you they feel great.

It’s a T15 that fits the weight screws. The stock weights in the proto are 11 grams so with the 17 gram weights it only adds approximately 12 grams to total headweight.
