Have they fixed the paint issues?  This is the only thing that makes me hesitant to buy it.  Has anyone had issues with the latest batch of putters? Is the new Spider tour still chipping paint as well?   Or has the issue been resolved?

First batch when it came out. I have played about 4 rounds and used it for practice numerous times. Where does the paint usually chip?

I’ve seen pictures where the paint chips on top of the putter, where the top of the putter meets the face and the back.  I’m going to test the Spider out tomorrow. Be  But at $469.99 Canadian plus 13% tax you can see why I’m a little reluctant (potential chipping)  to buy it. Price is not the issue.   I know the finish is new on these new Spider’s.  It’s either the Spider or the new AI 7 for me.

Interesting Rory's comments today re: his commitment to mallets now vs. blades...

 

He won't be switching to a blade anytime soon if you are to take his comments seriously (Sorry Cameron blade worshippers). The really interesting part was as he was watching/commenting after his round today at Riv, he was commenting that Scheffler should be using a mallet and just hasn't got there yet (Although not in a hurry to tell him as he doesn't want to see Scottie get any better LOL)...

 

Perhaps with his frustration on the greens at the Genesis Scottie will be back trying this Spider Proto at some point soon.

eBay use to be flooded with them at close to retail price.  May be your best bet.

I don’t know spiders well but pretty sure he used just the otr one

LOL yes - Scottie went away from the 'Proto' set-up completely, went with the more 'stock' version of the Spider Tour X1 w/the Pure Roll 'Surlyn' insert which to me is fabulous. Curiously, he changed the shaft (I believe the same shaft that was in his Logan blade), and added the Golf Pride putter grip, which would be characterized as in between his most recent putter set-up and the pistol he would have used on his Cameron...

 

The X1 config (Plumbers neck) is only available at retail via the custom 'My' program. The stock slant, double bend configs are part of the standard offerings. 

 

The 'Proto' had 11g weights on each side if I recall, and I wonder if he has increased the weighting on his new gamer? (Stock 35" is 2g aside, 34" is 6g aside and even that feels too light). I have 11g weights aside on my Spider Tour X3, and it feels spectacular.

 

Not loving his grip choice, but it's subjective. Personally believe the bigger the head, the larger the grip makes sense. Using a SuperStroke on a blade just appears visually off balance to me but that's my preference, but I do feel SS grips make a ton of sense on mallets as do the majority it would seem.

I know his wasn't the Proto but because this one has a plumbers neck, I figured some guys might want to move into this one instead of a custom MySpider. Especially if they're coming from a milled blade/mallet

Once TM drops his current putter I'm guessing more of these will pop up for sale. Always best to have the latest and greatest limited putter. 😉 I'm curious about trying a spider with a milled insert hence the interest even if Scottie didn't win with it. 🙂

Interesting, don't recall hearing the insert being referred to as '80/20' so perhaps this is different??

I ordered a MySpider plumbers neck a couple months ago with the softer insert and I currently still own the Proto as well. I don't know if it's due to the CG being further forward with the milled face versus the insert, but the Proto sits so much better behind the ball. The MySpider with the insert wanted to toe in a little bit where as the Proto just sits perfectly square with zero manipulation.

The 80/20 has been around for quite a while. Its just been tour only afaik.
