I still prefer the one where Niles and Frasier are at a Sonics game with their dad, and a guy comes in late, and asks Niles, who needs to remove his earphones, "Hey buddy, what's the score?" To which Niles replies "West Side Story."

Back to the OP, if he is a good putter of the golf ball, is he only so on the putting surface?

A lot of golf announcers use that term, it seems.   "He's a great (driver, chipper, etc.) of the golf ball."    I believe you could pretty much leave that part out and people would still know what you are talking about.  "Of the golfball" is basically just filler in a four hour golf broadcast.    Not that I'm criticizing those guys.    I could have never started this thread and it wouldn't have made any difference either.

He’s a great driver without “of the golf ball” would confuse too many folks.  They’d think it was a reference to Tiger’s driving.😎
