Winter Months just SUCK

I live in Atlanta, and our winter has been brutal and horrible.  My handicap has started skyrocketing, and I am really pissed, up by almost 3 shots since middle of summer last year.  This past Sunday I had on two full sleeve layers, plus another short sleeve layer, the top layer was almost a sweater.  Areas around our greens are sloppy wet, whether in the rough or fairway, and the greens themselves were just crazy differences in speed.

 

Then I come here, I see what actual winter looks like and realize while playing in the cold and wet still completely sucks, I do not have it nearly as bad as pretty much everyone from Virginia north.

I hate winter but what makes it even worse is that I have money set aside for a sim, just wont fit in a one bed room apartment lol.

It started snowing again here this morning.

Of course, after weeks of warmer than usual, we're getting snow over the next week here in Minnesota......

The only good thing about this morning was my EGO battery powered two stage snowblower doesn't need any "end of season" maintenance so pulling it out to clear off the driveway doesn't create a ton of work since it's already stored it for the summer.

 

OK, two things.  The coffee didn't suck.

I live in Central New Jersey, have not used my snowblower or even a snow shovel in the last 2 years, instead we have a ton of rain, going to get almost 3 inches tomorrow.

Yes. I'm in central NJ too (Monmouth county). Not much snow, but just a miserable winter with little golf possible. Right now (Friday morning) it is 33*. Tomorrow is 54* with heavy rain.

Getting warmer here in Western MA. Fortunately I have a 90yd wedge shot and a comfortable hitting station.

The winter months do stink but it is the single best time to take advantage of being able to get better and practice.

Played yesterday morning. Just above freezing. Three club winds. Lasted 8 holes before we retired. Balls still plugging. Course is a good month behind in condition and maintenance program has been held up as too wet to take machinery onto the course without tearing up the grass.

Agree. Playing and working on swing changes is more challenging though!

Im almost wondering what the point is to be honest.

 

Its been peeing it down day after day after day in the UK.

 

I went out to play today, it was about 8 degrees celsius that felt like 2 or 3 degrees, with a 15 mph wind, and it was raining on and off all day.

 

I was hitting it like crap because mentally i cant be bothered anymore to stand in the wind and rain, over and over.

 

I dont really care about people telling me the beauty of grinding it out and its what mother nature gave you. I pay money for fun. Its not fun.

 

A quarter of the year has gone in the UK. Plus December was rubbish. thats 1/3 of a year.

 

Courses only look good for about 2/3 months a year. The rest of the time theyre soaked, carry only, holes shut, roped off areas.

 

I genuinely cant be bothered anymore playing the game, when you never have weather that resembles anything the top players play in.

I've found that sometimes the weather radar will show an upcoming break in the rain and I can get out between showers. 

 

It's still muddy but it's better than sitting at home.  IIRC UK golfers get to use a piece of artificial turf to play off of in the winter which is a step up from the muddy grass.

Thats true, a lot of courses will ask you to carry a piece of mat around with you.

 

Sadly a lot of courses dont have the drainage on the greens and greens get closed.

 

Its been the wettest 18 months on record in the UK, the last 18 months

I was looking for some inspiration to head to Sarasota and found it here. Next week in the 80's, brutal! Just had a nasty storm blow through here in Tennessee, and it is soaked, more inspiration.

My yard got twice the average rain in March.  8.4 inches or 213mm!  

I've been practicing driver off the tee in my back yard with foam balls when the yard isn't too wet.

Walked 9 in 42 degrees, sunshine and a really soggy course. Winter conditions but it was nice to get out there.

Heavy rain overnight, and still chucking it down. Course closed today and probably tomorrow as well. Practice range is a swamp. So much for enjoying the spring air and improving course. W

I’ve gotten so used to year round golf that I wouldn’t be able to survive up north. Not only no golf but you get acclimated to warm southern weather and can’t handle winter at the slightest. Anything below 50° and I’m freezing my a** off lol
