Did you fly through Heathrow?

Nope, Chicago to Toronto to Edinburgh...I use air tags and could see my bags in EDI but no one would help. Just fill out a form. Could have had them on day 2 of 10 day trip. We could see them through the double doors but "that's an international border and you will go to jail if you touch them..." Our clubs ended up in a company warehouse working for Air Canada (avoid at all costs) and we weren't even told they were there. We just showed up the day before departure because my air tag showed them there. A worker helped us find them and we walked out. They had laid outside multiple days as everything was soaked and molded including towels and headcovers.

Thanks!  I wonder if Shipstix will let me just do it the way there.  I'll check em on the way back.

I actually do this for any important-to-me domestic or international golf trip that involves a connection. Golf bag, in a travel bag, in a box picked up by Shipsticks/FedEx at my house. On the return I have the travel bag to check the clubs in as I don't care as much if they are delayed on the way home.

Seems a great trip.

day three is the killer for me and jet lag. Worse coming to Europe way.

bags, touch wood have been fine. I am going Aberdeen, schiphol, Calgary to ski and will have everything in the hold.

my new artisan irons are coming back with my friend from Houston at Christmas and we are meeting at gullane to play; they better make it.

back to your trip -

i would never drive east to west then back to east to play one course the next day.

west coast then St Andrews or Edinburgh day, west coast, St Andrews is the way to go.

where you staying St Andrews? I am heading there tomorrow.

Airbnb Near the University.

I think We'll just find some more courses on the west coast to play.  You're right, i'd imagine flying 15+ hours + golf + a 2 hour drive to the airbnb would be a rough start to the trip.

So stay local. Can easily play two games in East Lothian then drive to Ayrshire on Sunday. East Lothian is much nicer anyway.

That is an option but he has a booking already.

I prefer East Coast ut if you are Scottish, you either prefer East or West Coast.

Sorry, I thought the arrival day and Saturday were still open with the first game booked at Prestwick.

In which case, why not play Dunbar then stay in Gullane for two nights? Pick up a Gullane or maybe Kilspindie. Maybe Musselburgh Old if history is your thing. It isn’t a bad drive to Prestwick on a Sunday morning.

gullible is a field with amazing bunkering. fun course. kilspindie is a field with one good hole. there are much better courses in East Lothian than Kilspindie.

that is indeed what I’m trying to fill. Arrival day and Saturday.  First round booked is Sunday at Prestwick.

If it was me, option one would be to fly into EDI, then drive to Dunbar (40mins) and play there. Spend the night in Haddington (15mins from Dunbar) or Tranent (25mins) then drive over to Prestwick the following morning. Dunbar is a fun course and good value, but obviously not the course that North Berwick or Muirfield are. Option two would be to fly into EDI then drive to Glasgow Gailes (1hr 15mins) and play there, then drive to Ayr (20mins) and stay there.

Kilspindie is far from the best course in East Lothian. So is Gullane and Dunbar for that matter. But Kilspindie has an undeniable charm about and has far more than one good hole. The front nine alone has 3, 4, 7 and 8 which are high quality holes. My biggest problem with the place is the crazy green fee hike in recent years, but that is an epidemic in Scotland.

Agreed with the prices.

I am spoilt with Royal Aberdeen so Kilspindie is poop for me!

So I took the reigns and planned my first ever trip to Scotland with the help of this forum.  The worst part about planning this trip is realizing I now have to wait 8 months until the trip.  We've scheduled 1 round on most of the days so have room to add another round in the afternoon based on the suggestions here.

We'll be flying into Edinburgh and renting a van. Starting in Ayrshire and ending in St. Andrews 11 days total.  Let me know your thoughts.

Friday June 14th - (depends on arrivals/Travel) Travel
Saturday June 15th TBD
Sunday June 16th @ 11:48am Prestwick Golf
Monday June 17th @ 7:06am Turnberry Resort - King Robert the Bruce Course
Monday June 17th @ 1:28pm Turnberry Golf - Ailisa Cource
Tuesday June 18th Morning Round? TBD
Tuesday June 18th @ 2:10pm Western Gailes
Wednesday June 19th @ 7:50am Kingsbarn
Thursday June 20th @ 8:32am Eden (Camping out for Old Course in the AM)
Friday June 21st @ 7:52 am Jubilee
Saturday June 22nd @ 8:40 am Castle
Sunday June 23rd Travel

My buddy and I will be flying in a few days after you leave. We've got a few places booked:

Kilspindie

Dumbarnie

Dunbar

Kingsbarns

North Berwick

Gullane 2 and 3

Crail Balcomie

As some mentioned earlier, we're going to fly direct to Edinburgh and we have 18 holes queued up a few hours after we land. I'm told this is the best way to beat the jet lag. I'm not sure my old a** will make it that long, but I have to try. It's a 7 hour direct flight out of Toronto.

Very excited for you! Gonna be a great trip.

Yes, actually. My buddy tried to book #1, and couldn't get a tee time on the day we wanted. So he booked 36 holes at the other 2. He said those two courses are the "ones the locals play". One of his wants on this trip was to play a few of the "locals" courses, not just the bigger ticket ones.

Awesome.  Maybe I'll have room for one of the others on Saturday.  Still waiting on Dunbar to get back to us.

Stands to reason. But some day try 3. It’s a short course offering a quick game and the greens are more interesting. I am not saying it’s better than 1, but you get something a bit different with 3. I play 3 more than the other two combined. That said, I tend to prefer shorter courses that are quicker to play so long as they have enough interesting holes…many do not. I wish there were 14 hole courses…the sweet spot.
