Are graphite putter shafts really better than steel?

Oh hey the monthly graphite putter shaft post. Answers will be:

 

Yes make a difference all around. 

 

Yes but only on long putts. 

 

Yes but only on short putts.

 

Yes but didn't like the sound change. 

 

No nothing at all.

 

No but did like the sound change. 

 

Nothing I could see a difference in. 

 

Will this shaft fit on my X5? No.

 

and last but not least.

Not trying to be a knob but it really varies, I myself have it only on 1 putter cause of my preferred neck but I do like the difference it makes especially on lag putts.

I recently got the BGT Stability shaft installed on my Scotty Futura X5, sounds about the same, the only difference "for me" is that now the ball actually rolls end over end 95% of the time on every putt, long and short, meaning that the ball is coming off the putter with a truer roll, is it the honeymoon effect?, perhaps...it does feel more "stable" (pun intended), I paired it with a Super Stroke Flatso 1.0 and a 25G counter weight, it just feels better overall, again, for me...

Depends on the graphite shaft, the head, and your personal preference. There is some merit to graphite shafts in their ability to deliver the head to the ball in a more consistent manner, but sometimes that comes at the cost of feel. 
 

PXG’s M16 putter shaft is stout and does not noticeably flex at all, even with a heavy putter head. It also removed a lot of feedback  when putting. It took a while for me to re-learn what a heel strike felt like, toe, low, high, etc. 

 

Accra’s putter shaft had a slight “whip” feeling to it and felt soft on the strike, but the feedback was good. 
 

You’ll just have to try it out for yourself and see if you like it.

Better?  Not sure what benefit you expect, honestly.

Different?  Yes, IMHO, they can transmit a different feel to the player, possibly just the slightest change in sound.

 

More expensive?  Yes, in most cases.

Good conversation starters?  Yeah, I would say so.

 

My recommendation?  If you have the itch to try, start with something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and see what you think.  ACCRA, UST All-In, or even the SteelFiber models all come in at sub-$100, right?  At least if you keep the outlay reasonable, you'll be able to have personal experience and not take a beating, if the difference you feel is negative.

Not a better feel. Just different

 

I'm personally not a fan. Everything just feels dead. I took the Anser2  PLD out of the bag because I just did not like the feel the graphite shaft provided during the stroke nor at contact

TL;DR   Don't buy the hype. They all suck.

I stuck an old matrix red-tie in my Scotty a few years ago. It felt great, like really good. Had some great success with it, but succumbed to putting a gloss black KBS in which is equally as good, but looks cooler.

I could put a wooden dowl in my putter and after an hour on the green i would be dialed in. The marketing departments for golf manufacturers truly have the easiest customer base to manipulate. Find a putter that makes you happy and practice.
