Mizuno ST-Max

From what has been shared with me Max is a high MOI driver with a fraction more spin than ST-Z. With the weight concentrated low, back and centred it will be pretty neutral flight bias but should be easy launching. Mizuno had an IG post on the Max fairways and the ST-G fairways. Safe to say the Max were bigger but the weights were low, deep in the head and centred. If you need spin and or draw, the X series is your place to look.

Perfect

NO Draw bias, but launch and spin help would be PERFECT

thank you

Max heads will mostly always have some inherent draw bias in the numbers regardless what the marketing from the company says due to the MOI and CG location of the head. Not to mention 90% of the target audience for max heads needs it and it helps sell drivers since most weekend golfers slice. I am also someone who loves max model heads but does not want the draw bias so I've resorted to messing with tour issue heads to get what I need. YMMV.

Unless you are striking all over the face or want more spin I don’t see an advantage with this driver over the Z or X, which both are very fast off the face and plenty forgiving. Those are great drivers, will compete with anything made.

This is Mizuno’s version of a Ping MAX or SFT or a TM D head — more forgiving than the others in the lineup for the average golfer. It is likely designed with some draw bias, but you no doubt can set it to enhance or reduce the design attributes. It will definitely fit certain players but more likely to appeal to those who are not playing a Mizuno driver. If you can hit the Z or X well with enough spin there’d be no reason to move to this head. It’s going for the max forgiveness crowd.

What I want to know is if they are coming out with an adjustable 7 wood with a head that isn’t huge or with a tall face. I don’t usually care about adjustable fairways but I do on 7 wood because so many with bonded hosels look closed. I like to adjust them until it looks better to my eye and that’s where I play it, regardless of what the setting is.

A buddy of mine has been fortunate to test the Max 10.5° driver set to 8.25° versus his ST-Z 9.5° set to 8.375°. gamer. Using his own shaft, he says Max spins a bit more than his gamer but is ridiculously forgiving with equal ball speed as his gamer. He is planning on gaming a Max 9.5° set down to 7.25°. He gushed about how his strike move around the face but the ball flight barely changed. He said the Max fairways are just stupid easy to hit high and straight.

He say anything about the sound? I thought the stz sounded a little tinny

Hi,

Jumping in here... I currently play a ST-Z, 2021 version, in 10,5 with a Riptide CB 60 S in it. Generally hit it decently and can bomb it from time to time. SS around 100 mph, AoA 3-6 degrees up and between 1500-2000 rpm spin. My gut feeling is that I would like to have a little more spin on average to increase flight and stability. Since I can access Mizuno gear pretty easily, I would like to stay "in brand". Maybe the ST Max could be an option? Used to have hook issues, but currently missing both ways 😄

Thanks. I will be checking out the 7 wood for sure. The key for me is face height and how it looks from address. Not quite happy with what I have.

On the driver, I have the 230 X head and it’s great. Many go for the Z but the X is amazingly easy to fade or draw. It’s a top notch driver. I also have a Paradym Triple D to compare it to and the 230 is just as long. I can play either and it doesn’t seem to make any difference. The Paradym may be more of a fade-biased head. The 230 X is a bit better on impact low on the face — it still launches. But I find a lot of these drivers, performance is very similar.

In the product overview video for the 2024 gear @Vosh68 said it just wants to go straight like it’s on rails. My buddy has had more time with it now and reports it is very straight. Shaping the ball takes more swing path club face manipulation to create bigger curves.

hope it doesn’t look crazy open or crazy close like the recent iteration when it is on the standard 9.5 or 10.5

They start talking release dates around the 1:28:30 mark in the Mizuno Live video posted above. February 8th is the date for the Max woods release in the States.  I believe preorder and embargo date is Jan 8th for both woods and irons but am not 100% on the woods.
