What did everyone do with their belly putters?

My putting has been awful and I’m thinking about getting another belly putter. I know they were banned so I assume most folks don’t use them anymore. What did everyone do with them? Cut them down?

Honestly, I hope they melted them down and are using them for ball markers and divot tools now 😆

Most cut them down to counter balanced putters. Easy peasy.

I still have mine; it's sitting in the corner of my bedroom.  I made more putts with that putter than any other putter I have used.  It is a Ping Pick-em-up.

 

I also have the same model, just 4 or 5" shorter.  I tried to use that, unanchored after the ban.  It kind of works, kind of doesn't.

 

My own feeling is that golf evolved from ball and stick games like croquet and hockey (or whatever came before).  Those are games where the hands are apart on the stick.  As golf evolved, at some point players found they could get more speed with their hands together.  That's why I feel like the broomstick as practiced by Langer and others isn't golf.  But the belly putter is.

 

I take mine out on the course from time to time and make more 10' and 12' putts.

And I'm actually surprised that armlock hasn’t been banned yet.  I think that comes sooner than later.  

 

I'm all for variety in the game of golf.  I actually appreciate that there are so many putting methods that have shown themselves throughout history.  

In my perfect golf world, I’d let anyone putt however they want, as long as the device isn’t electronically helping them.  Putting should be celebrated for the art that it is - let the painter paint (but don’t let them adobe photoshop).

As long as the belly putter isn’t jammed into you making a fulcrum I don’t care. Just cut a couple inches off and replace the lost weight.

Earlier this year I saw a few on the sales floor at Clubfinders.  Maybe give them a call if you want to buy one.

On the courses I play I never recall seeing any player with a belly putter or a broomstick putter. I believe these type putters were used by a few Tour pros but not popular for amateur play.
