I'm a big mystery fan, so I spend lot of time on the MHz Network.  Favorites are Montalbano and Maigret.  There are many European mysteries there, all with English subtitles.  I am also a WWII (and history in general) buff, so I spend time on YouTube on sites like NASS, Critical Past, Periscope Film, Mark Felton Productions and The Unauthorized History of the Pacific War.

Gravesend-seriously authentic NY mob series. Had a pilot season then was picked up. Not big budget but you can see all the mob neighborhoods and it’s got solid plots. And in the 2nd season, I guess a lot of “old school” actors wanted to be in it. It’s got Chaz Palmetiera, couple of Sopranis guys, Armand Asante, even Fran Dresher lol

 

The Take-Tom Hardy, Brit Mob series, hilarious, ultra-violent, and totally insane

Watched Rebel Moon on Netflix last night. Considering it was free and that there are no commercials, I recommend it. Kinda a mix between Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy. I give it an ‘above average’ grade.

My wife and I started that show. I don’t believe we got through the first season. It wasn’t a bad show, it just didn’t really draw me in.

So, I told my wife about this one. I thoroughly enjoy mob/gangster related shows/movies (Sopranos, Peaky Blinders, Boardwalk Empire, etc), but I have to say, this show was so bad. The acting was worse than junior high drama class. The main character tries entirely too hard to fit a stereotype, almost as if it is satire. It looked incredibly low budget as well. We made it about 1/2 way through episode 2.

Yeah I can see how it would be tough to watch if you’re not from NY, First season shoestring budget, probably just the producer/lead actors own money. 
 

Second season has twice the episodes, much bigger budget and a dozen recognizable actors. 
 

And it’s just got picked up for 3rd season!

 

Try season 2! It starts in Miami and there’s lots of bikinis and jiggly room scenes so at least there’s that 🤣

   I'm laughing so hard to myself because I totally agree with everything you said but I didn't want to say anything negative.   The only thing I liked about this show was picking up on the locations because, like I said, I lived and worked in the area during that time period.  Otherwise, it's like watching a train wreck.  That guy is without a doubt the worst actor I've ever seen.  All of the performances are like caricatures really.  And how annoying is the use and choice of background music?  

   So glad it wasn't just me.

We like it and I’m glad to say enjoy it immensely.

 

The best is 2nd season when Mikey Palmince (juniors annoying driver from sopranos) gets whacked quite gruesomely. 
 

Now, I’m from the burbs but my wife grew up in Brooklyn and brother and cousins and lots of their childhood friends look and act like the folks on the show 🤣 so maybe that’s one reason it’s so entertaining 

 

But, yeah, it did get picked up for season 3, and I’m thinking it’ll get even more big names on the cast lol

Anthony Starr (homelander) is the main actor and he’s basically a corrupt version of reacher but even more badass if that’s possible.

Okay got a few episodes in last night. Good stuff! Unfortunately I could only see the guy (character) below ⬇️ every time they showed the main character. Props for the gratuitous “adult situations” tho! I think he ran thru half the town by episode 4!! 😆
