Is anyone currently gaming a vintage wedge?

Looking into a few early 2000's wedges and wondering if anyone currently has success with one in their bag today. Would love to hear about it!

I've stuck with my Vokey 200's since they were current issue., though I may be in the minority.

over the past several years I've also tried Wilson DynaPowered, Harmonized, Staff and TW Rams.

the Vokeys are what's usually in the bag.

If you're in the market, you might consider checking out the old Mizuno MP wedges.  I have four of the Black Nickel MP-T series wedges in the bag right now from the 2006-2008ish range.  Recently sold my RTX wedges after two years and mean to buy a new set but wanted to wait until next year, so I've been playing these MP-Ts this fall/winter and they'll get run into next spring/summer.  Feel is incredible, plenty of bite and great turf interaction.  Outstanding wedges.  They'll get replaced for T-24s, but I probably will hang onto these still as a backup if I'm between wedge sets.

52.07 full sole bent to 54.09

Love Ping Zing 2 and ISI wedges, although most people will never get over the look to give them a chance.

Eye2 sand and pitching wedges.  Pw is 50° and the sand is 57°.   I like how they frame the ball and the sand wedge bounce has been copied a lot.  Seems a lot of karsten’s designs get copied.

You betcha.

Quite a few blade putters like the SC Newport's look eerily similar the Karsten's Anser design. 🤔

I play a set of BECU Ping Eye 2 wedges from 1990 and they’re phenomenal. I know folks say to replace wedges every few years to maintain optimal spin and performance, but I’ve had perfectly fine results playing a number of vintage wedges. As long as the wedge is in good shape, I’d feel comfortable using it.

2 guys at my club still play these and they’re the 2 best wedge players I’ve ever seen.

I stuck an almost new BeCu Hogan Special SW. in my bag in October. I'd had it since the 90s. Man what a sweet wedge. The first time out I hit a few really nice short shots and on the last hole got up and down out of a bunker. Liked it so much I bought it's twin on ebay for around $25 shipped. I forgot these have a unique feel.

My current 52 and backup 52 are both Vokey 200 series wedges. Both are starting to wear out quite a bit but I also have 4 mint condition Oil Can Vokey 200s in my wedge collection. All 52 degrees. Not letting go of those at all. Fantastic wedges

My entire bag are relics 🙂 as are my wedges currently too, been gaming the old Don White MacGregors MT-Pro. These are from 2008 I think. I had always liked em back when they came out but I never bought one. A few years ago a got deal on some to try and I liked em so they kinda stuck.

I used a couple of those from 92-2002 or so. The first one I got in 92 was bent a couple degrees strong, a few years later found another and bent it a couple weak. Love the sound and feel of the BeCu.

Released in 2007, calling them “Vintage” is questionable. IMO they remain the best wedges ever made. They carry further, spin more, and have a grossly larger sweet spot than the typical blade type.

They are obviously illegal by the current groove standards, and their spin characteristics really do feel like cheating in certain situations, IMO they are a perfect benchmark for others to strive.

My pitching wedge and gap wedge match my set which is modern, but my sand wedge is an early 80’s Spalding EV-A wedge.  Very narrow sole, huge amount of bounce, leading edge onset, not offset.  I use this club everywhere from 75 yards in, except for green side bunkers.  It is great out of deep rough or tight lies, opens up beautifully for flop shots.

Out of the sand I use a Ping ISI nickel lob wedge.  It is like cheating.  Pops the ball out straight up and on the green with ease.

My oldest wedge is an ISI sand wedge and it holds its own against my Glide 2.0.

I played the Mizuno MP-R nickel from 2006? 52°and 58° until last year.

I just liked the teardrop shape at the time

I'm now playing somewhat older model Vega wedges which I love VW-06 (2014) and a Vega RAFW 03 (2011)

I’ve played Wilson Harmonized, Hogan Si BeCu, Tour Action/Cleveland 588, Vokey, Mizuno, and now the Vega’s…… the Vega wedges tick all the boxes for me.

I think I'm playing a vintage wedge that I would never part with. A Scratch 8620, (conforming model). Very compact design, and use the 53d. exclusively from about 50yds in.
