A little horn tooting if I may, recently finished this on and donated it to a fundraiser silent auction. They pulled it for one of the few items they live auctioned and it sold for $1050. I was blow away!

For me, it's largely just a video game habit I have.  Amusingly, my #1 stepson is the one who got me started, 30 years ago when I started seeing his mother.  I had some gamer habits before that, but had avoided diving in, even declining the offer from Wife 1.0 to buy me an NES in the late 80s.

Funny how things work out.

Playing consoles, have a PS5.  I'm an RPG guy, big fan of the Dragon Quest games.  And, the ever present Diablo series; playing Diablo IV a fair amount these days.

Also have a bit of a sports sim game habit that I dabble with.  Primarily PC based at this point.

I seem to rotate hobbies between golf, target shooting, car detailing, watch collecting, RV'ing, and camping. When my son was younger, I was heavily involved with his scout troop. He finished up with that (made Eagle) and started racing sports cars. For the last several years that has taken all of my spare time and money. He's raced and won on some of the greatest road tracks in the country (Daytona, Sebring, Road America, Road Atlanta, COTA, and others) and we've made some great memories.

I used to attend the CART (Indycar) races at Road America. Loved the track in the rolling hills of the Kettle Moraine. For the first few years we checked out the various corners, but ultimately settled on Canada Corner. The four mile layout had over a dozen turns, but the Indycars really on passed at three of them, #5, Hurry Downs, and Canada Corner.

I used to go deep sea fishing on my 18 foot center console boat for about 9 years until 2022.

When I started playing golf again on a regular basis in 2021 after a 29 year hiatus, my fishing activities declined and eventually stopped in 2022.

I must say that I have no regrets and that I'm very grateful to have decided to restart my golf hobby again knowing that golf is a less demanding hobby than deep-sea fishing.

Nevertheless, I'm also thankful that this hobby was able to have provided a lot of memorable and exciting moments with my family and my extended family as well as friends that golf will never be able to provide.

At my age, I'm no longer a spring chicken at over 53 years old with a bum knee and the demands of maintaining a ship-shape boat is no joke.

In order to keep my costs down with this expensive hobby, I had to maintain a land-based boat that I kept on a trailer in my driveway.

I also learned on-the-fly, doing all maintenance, repair, winterization and upkeep myself.

This is in addition to prep time (4 hours) required to go on a fishing trip as well as launching (1 hour) and retrieving (1 hour) and clean-up (4 hours) time after the trip.

All in all, I have to devote at least 10 hours for each trip so that's why I don't miss going fishing on my boat.

Always thought owning a large boat would be cool, until I talked with a couple of friends with boats. Oy.

Figured that I could charter a boat for a few hours if needed. Even if it was crazy expensive, it would be a drop in the ocean compared to ownership.

Yup, if you want to be hassle-free boat owner then there's no there's no other way but shelling out at least a couple of thousand dollars a year to start for a slip and storage as well as maintenance and repair.

As you mentioned, charter fishing is the next best alternative. Also boat clubs where you can rent boats but pay at least $500/month.

“They” came up with a saying to describe that very sentiment. Something along the lines of the two happiest days of a boat owners life…

Homebrewing!  Love the creativity associated with brewing beer, and a good change of pace from golf.

Hey! Another home brewer over here, but golf has been eating into my brew time. I recently kegged a mixed fermentation lambic style sour. I intended to ferment a year… then I started playing golf and next thing you know it was aging for almost 3 years before I kegged it 😅

It came out really good though. Maybe my best ever. I’ve been itching to brew again.

Mostly IPAs and Belgians otherwise.

Nice.

Did more fishing than playing golf when I lived in south FL. Now here in PA I hardly fish….I like to fish because I like to eat fish, but that means salt water fisheries for me. No way am I eating any fish from these rivers! ☠️ We do make one annual walleye trip, but that’s a charter, not my own rig.

Decent walleye here. Good eats!

They aren’t near the same thrill to catch as snapper, grouper, wahoo, snook, etc. The saltwater gamefish are just so much stronger.

Use to go with dad to Erie and catch walleye, small mouth and perch.  Small mouth are fun. All 3 are delicious.  I've ice fished lake Erie before.
