Looking for a Non fade Bias driver

dmecca2

Recommended Posts

I’ve been a drawer of the ball my entire life and I currently have a stealth 2 and struggle to draw it. From what I’ve heard, read, and experienced, the stealth 2 seems to be naturally fade bias. Are there any drivers out there that are easier to draw, or more neutral balanced? And I’m not talking about the anti-slice drivers. My current swing speed hovers around 115.

Have you tried to adjust the sleeve to the upright setting? By making the lie more upright it will encourage the face to rotate and close faster.

Yes I did that, and it definitely helped, but it didn’t solve the problem. I currently have an 8° driver head lofted up to close the face a hair, but I don’t feel like I’m taking the correct approach to solving the problem.

Good luck.  Took me two years and three manufacturers to find one that didn’t go right.  I’m around 118ish on driver speed

What are you using now? My old driver was a TS2 and that worked, but I went chasing distance and lower spin.

I went through a LTDX LS, LTDX , two LS Aerojet heads with hundreds of range hours with weights and lead tape… no luck.  Hit TSR3 and Paradym standard and triple diamond.

Went through two standard Aerojet heads and the third head was the sweet spot.  Can hit it both ways and my normal 10 yard turnover draw is back and reliable for the first time since an M3 head I played for an eternity.

Inmo the TM products do tend to be more in the fade biased side. Sounds like you’ve done everything you can to take that bias out. The issue with most of “draw” biased drivers is that they are also very spinny. There are a couple heads like g430 max and AI Smoke that are slightly draw biased but still on the lower spin side. I’d try either one of those.

How much is it lofted up? Maybe test out some drivers with more loft?

G430 SFT - if you can’t draw this thing, just give up hitting a draw.  Unfortunately they only come in 10.5* but I’m testing one turned down to 9* and am seeing almost ideal spin (2100-2300) range, high 170’s low 180’s ball speed, and most importantly a consistent draw.

could argue you don't have enough loft on the head itself.

edit: and let's be crystal clear here, cause nobody else has mentioned it, you have the Stealth 2 Plus in 8*. by no means a driver head that's primary design is to hit a draw, polar opposite, it's anything but.

Wasn’t that the TM slogan in days gone by? LOFT UP

You’re probably correct. I originally had the Sim in 8° and it was fantastic, but it cracked during a tournament. After winning the tournament with a demo, I bought a stealth 2+ in 8° with shop credit thinking it would be the same and I could use the same shaft. It has been anything but the same.

lol, yea, and perfection is "17* launch and 1700 rpm" they told us.  that "Loft Up+" campaign was a complete knee jerk reaction to the initial FUBAR driver release of that SLDR series. too many consumers initially fell on their faces using an SLDR in a "loft" they were typically familiar with. so TMag eventually just told everybody to just loft up to fix their problems. overall gotta be one of the most "returned" after purchase driver series in the history of retail.

Sim 2 Max was one of the more draw biased Taylormade drivers I remember. Higher spin so might have to loft way down. There's a well known Taylormade stock reseller that has a couple 8 degree heads which I believe were tour only.

What about the Mizuno ST-G? Huge weight adjustment possible with the dual sliders.

Also that new Callaway AI Smoke Max is listed as Neutral but adjustable with the slider.

I’ll take a look at the mizuno. Definitely open to try companies outside of the top 3

Good call!  That’s what I would say as well.  Don’t count out Mizuno stz/stg drivers.  They manage spin really well and feel awesome!

I also think what @Phabs mentioned above is great.  Chasing indoor numbers can misguide you tremendously.  Most companies are making incredible equipment these days.  Even the more “forgiving” heads are managing spin well if you like the looks.  Don’t count out heads like tsr2, g430 max or even the AI Smoke Max like mentioned above.

I was trying to think of something with a sliding track and remembered this. I think you may be able to throw both weights into one track to go crazy biased.

Wilson Dynapwr Carbon would be worth a swing. Feel is superb, no fade bias by default with most settings favoring more draw, adjustable as expected for a modern driver, and only $499 even with options like authentic, not made-for, HZRDUS BLK/RED at no upcharge. Definitely the semi-sleeper of last year's releases.

I had this issue with my sim max. I don’t swing as fast as you (95-100mph) but I’m a low spin player that naturally draws the ball. I could not turn the club over so good shots went straight and bad shots when right.

i spent an hour with my coach hitting balls with various drivers and it came down to my tsr2 and the g430 max. Both are easy to shape either way and driving is so much better since the change. FWIW he said if I was to keep the sim max I’d have to loft up to close the face, so that’s your cheaper option.

I’d be interested to hear what you end up with. I’ve been playing a Sim 2 Max for a while which I find fade bias. There hasn’t been much out there for a long time for those who naturally draw the ball.

I couldn’t draw the first Gen Stealth + (was too upright and face looked close to me, couldn’t starting of target), second Gen S2+ 10.5 turned down and face open I could draw again by keeping some loft and spin on it. Went to a TSR3 and could hit draws but the spin was too low for me and the ball would nose dive. Moved to a TSR2 9 set flat now and I’m able to get my right start line and then draw it back.

I’ll probably try a Qi10 core at some point just because I always try TM but the TSR2 is a good golf course driver the way I have it setup.

I have a TSi3 9*. With the Tensei 1k black S, neutral on the weight, lofted down .75* and lie up .75* it wants to fade which I want for the course I regularly play.

Just picked up the X version of the shaft, went up .75* in loft from neutral, 1.5* total, kept the lie at .75* up, weight port moved 1 step toward heel and I get a draw bias.

Have not hit enough balls with the weight port in neutral or to the toe to get the fade bias back. But thought I’d offer my 2c.

I don’t have launch monitor numbers to give you. Sorry.
