Golf Pride V55 Grips: Has the novelty already wore off so early in the year?

I ask the question because lucky me found eight of the Golf Pride V55 grips (the non-corded ones) at a local golf shop in the bargain bin today, and being that they’re so new and limited production, I wouldn’t have expected that. Golf Pride lists them for $11.99 each, I grabbed them all for $6 each. They are brand new, one still had its plastic wrapper on the end, the others didn’t. What’s the deal? Not a splash hit as folks thought?

 

I fully intend to have them installed on my recently acquired 710 AP2s in place of the old Lamkins on there now. I love these grips, I’ve had a couple sets of irons with them now, just wish they were ribbed like the originals.

Forum hype doesn’t always translate into real world sales, but maybe folks just didn’t know this retailer had some stock. 
 

I’ve been that retailer. When forum guys came in I could show them stuff I couldn’t get rid of and they snap my hand off for it. Including V55s - last time around!

Sorta interesting title here V55 has always been a pretty niche offering at retail - I remember in 2012ish they were discounted everywhere and overstocked prior to their original “discontinuing”.  @Wayside is correct that the normal golf consumer isn’t a GolfWRX forum member. 
 

Price wise, the V55 you purchased could have been old stock from prior release runs. I don’t think golf pride distributed these most recent offerings (58R only) to retailers. I could be wrong though. 
 

If the inside of the grip has 60R written on the inside of the grip tip, or it is ribbed, it was the older version. This isn’t a big deal and if the rubber is nice, enjoy those grips. These are my personal go-to.

I bought some direct from GP in November and they didn’t come with the typical plastic wrap, So I would hazard a guess the ones you got at your local shop are a previous run, especially if they’re .60.  
 

Strangely, I can’t read anything on the inside of the ones I got direct from GP, however the invoice says 58R.

It can be hard to see! They do indeed have a 58R on mine (both rubber and cord)

Yah, been looking inside grips for 40 years…

these are mostly blank,  some have very faint partial characters, but not decipherable. On one of the 18 I bought, there’s a faint “Thai” …

 

So not the best, doesn’t matter though, they are genuine.

It is molded faintly next to “Thailand” on mine but who knows if that’s something quality would deem out of spec? 
 

I agree that most products which I look at in stores are much clearer. I have seen some TV Cords in store which had a faint mold there too, but most are far easier.

I’ve got some of these to test and I think I’m moving forward with them.  
 

currently I play the bct cords 58 x (ribbed) in a .610 butt iron shaft with 3 wraps of double sided tape.  I like the size but man to they get firm as they stretch and build up.  Same thing with the z cords.  Tour velvet build up nice, but a little soft and no cord.

 

enter the v55z. These feel great.  They build up without getting too firm, and the ridges in the rubber and cord stick out a little more as you build them up.
