Just wondering which holes at Spyglass are as good as or better than 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 16, 17, 18 at Pebble? Ocean or no ocean.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, and 17.

You take away the ocean, and Pebble's allure is reduced by a lot. Hole 7, 8, 9, 10, 17, 18 are a lot different without it. The rest would remain mostly unaffected.

Two different courses. Two different views. In my opinion two different worlds!. both are great. We preferred spyglass personally but we also had horrible caddies at pebble that should not be caddies and it felt weird hitting into a green while someone was watering and being told “don’t worry about it, that’s why they have hard hats”.

Just played Pebble on Wednesday and Spyglass yesterday—first time playing each of them, and both were fantastic.  We caught Pebble on a perfect weather day, and then Spyglass in 20 mph winds and rain.  I played better at Spyglass (those ocean views at Pebble will distract you), and I really liked the layout there.

Great to hear all the responses! Been watching so many YT videos on each course and June feels like forever still. Hoping for good weather

Strong chance for very good weather except.. the area is notorious for "june gloom".. that is, clouds and overcast and cool.  You're likely to get that.  But no rain.

I've made the trip many times and heading back next month.  It's the best!  Spanish Bay is a great way to start.  Spyglass is world class.  Some people are disappointed mostly because the first 5 holes are near the water and then you don't return.  If you know this going in, you won't be let down.  The course is almost a victim to it's own greatness.  I like to say Spyglass gives you your vacation photo ops on the first several holes and then takes you up into the forest to kick your a**.  Spyglass and Spanish Bay have two of finest opening holes you'll play anywhere.  Pebble is Pebble, no need to expand.  Make sure you go the The Hay and spend some time.  It's the new par 3 course, restaurant, and putting green.  Great views, fantastic vibe, and one of the best hangs in golf.  Make an entire day out of your day at Pebble.  It's a great walk around the shops. checking out The Lodge over 18, etc.  There is a breakfast place, Gallery Cafe, with an outdoor patio that overlooks the 1st tee and putting green, with a view of the water.  I never miss that experience.  Each trip I also take a jaunt down the beach below Pebble at sunrise.  It's good for the soul.  You can actually hike up to the course from the beach and walk around holes 7-10 while the maintenance team is preparing for the day and no one will bother you.  Poppy Hills is a no-brainer at twilight.  It's $100 to walk and you'll have time to finish.  Really good course a mile from the big boys on the peninsula .  Pacific Grove Golf Links is great, and also just good for the soul.  It makes you remember why you love golf.  You can play the back nine during the first 1.5 hour of sunlight for $44.  It's really relaxing, you get that great ocean air and fantastic views, and you'll be done in less than 2 hours.

This is a great post.  Ate breakfast at the Gallery Cafe both days I was there.  Awesome to watch groups going off of #1 while eating.  I definitely recommend the Huevos Rancheros!

Though I gave up golf, I do periodically see what's happening on GolfWRX.
My wife and I have been going to the Monterey Peninsula since 1992, and we only live an 1hr. 20 minutes to Pebble. I've played all the Pebble courses many times and various months, the only time I would avoid is July which usuallly has the thickess marine layer. I enjoyed playing all of the courses including Del Monte.
As mentioned if you’re going with friends you might want to look into joining Dukes Club through Pebble Beach. The membership is $550 per year and you get some nice savings. I was always a Dukes member until I quit golfing.
Regular green fees for Spyglass is $465 and Spanish Bay is $335. With Dukes club Spyglass is $265 and you can bring 3 guests a the same price. Spanish Bay is $190 and you can bring 3 guests at the same price. As a new Dukes member you will get a free round of golf with a cart with a guest at Del Monte. The only thing is that you can only book 30 days in advance for all three courses. You also get 4 free passes to golf at The Hay designed by Tiger, the nine hole course across from Pebble. #2 is a replica of #7 at Pebble. You also get $30 Grill bucks to use at Del Monte. You can sometimes utilize the stay and play packages as well.
We've eaten at more than 70 restaurants in Pebble, SB, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel, Carmel Valley from inexpensive to fine dining, so if you'd like I'd be happy to make some recommendations.
Also there's a Pebble Beach outlet shop on Cannery Row in Monterey.
While at Pebble check out Golf Links to The Past as they have incredible golf memorabilia and Chris Little the GM is really nice. His grandfather Lawson Little Jr. was considered the greatest amateur golfer between Bobby Jones and Tiger and was inducted into the World Golf Hall Of Fame in 1980.

As I mentioned in another thread, if you're a guest at PB resorts you have access to The Beach & Tennis club which is private and they have a restaurant that overlooks Stillwater Cove and #17 fairay at PB. The restaurant is only open I think from 11:30 - 2:30.

Hey, so why did you give up golf?

How much is the Duke's club?  Yes I'm lazy.

Headed out there in a few weeks.  Praying for perfect weather!!!

kekoa,

See my earlier post which mentions the cost of Duke's and the benefits as well.

Funny I just lost interest in playing golf and for my old age (71) I'm still in really good shape, can run fast, fast reflexes, etc.

My friends can't believe that I stopped playing and what's funny is that one of my friends belongs to Crazy Horse Country Club in Salinas and wanted me to play as his guest. I also know someone who's a member at Tehama Golf Club and to top it all, I know staff at Pebble Beach resorts and I could be their guest to golf at PB for free!

I hope that you have a great time and the you have perfect weather too!
