I truly enjoy going to the gym. I love exercising. I just want to make sure that, in addition to maintaining my physical health, that I'm doing workouts that will also improve my golf game.
I also have a job that essentially only requires me working for about 2 hours each day although I'm physically in the store for 10. I want to utilize some of that time to improve my game and swing as well.

Me too.   Aside from overall strength training, cardio has an essential part in golf, though it's seldom talked about.  I average 20–40 mins on the elliptical.   I like walking when conditions present themselves.

The regime I've maintained over the years has kept me interested but as important, in top shape to play good golf, as well as capable in other physically demanding areas.  None of my exercise regime was purposely designed for golf, yet still hit my long irons solid and long.

Spending 3–5 hrs exercising for general and golf-specific is IMO not recommended because the better part of the population, eventually, will slack off because they can't keep it up.  My greater point is that working out is important, but being able to maintain it over time, is the greatest challenge.

Yesterday, walking off 18, I was happy with 4 over, playing in wet conditions that necessitated knowing carry yardages.

@tmw4h5

Read you are working in the matrass business. That is a good spot to start. When in bed and reading the stories on WRX I like to work the legs at the same time with a resistance band. The best exercise to activate the glutes is to wind the band around the feet; extend both legs to serious resistance; keep the stretch and then spread the feet out and in.

Absolutely hate circuit training myself, but I agree, it's very effective for getting heart rate up and adding an element of cardio.  It's also a great time saver.  I'd also like to add that the best way to circuit train is to do it via low volume, high frequency.  Hit full body per session 3 days a week.  Include both compound and isolation exercises.

Yup! If you’re looking to be efficient and productive, which was the OP’s goal for the post, you can’t beat it. As someone who loves working at high intensity and also places a very high value on muscle building and the benefits of heavy weights, there is no better way to program a workout. But, again, with those goals in mind.

I seem to remember proper sequencing or some such helping with speed.

Seriously do you think it is your strength level or your skill level that limits the distance you hit the ball?

Skill level and it’s not even close.

Measurement ≠ Meaning. Motion can’t be taught. It must be experienced. You don’t teach a swing. You design the chaos in which a swing is discovered.

Golf facts = reduction of a complexity which remains unknown. A way to sell certainty where none exists.

How do you know that? You haven't seen the OP's swing. Driver speed of 111-115 suggests decent sequencing, but we have no idea do we? Somehow you do?

My comment was more in general.

I also have the privilege of playing with a guy who is over the hill now but if didn't have severe tournament anxiety is a world class player. Prodigy level leadbetter academy stuff. He's about 5'6" and can fly 21* hybrid about 280. I've seen it over 290 on trackman 174.6 ballspeed but being generous on course lol.

It's very hard to be convinced otherwise after seeing that and the speed that real good motion can actually produce. Plugging the leaks will put much more energy into the club. So I'd say yeah, a better swing could easily bring OP to 120mph. Stronger, maybe a few mph's.

Body composition is a huge factor too, the basic way you are put together, with fast an slow twitch muscle fibers, the way those fibers are connected to the joints, the leverage your structure is able to generate.  While I do think everyone can increase their swing speed, I also think there is an upper limit for everyone, and not everyone’s ceiling is as high.

But, again... The OP clearly asked about improving efficiency at the gym, yet you keep coming back to talk about the swing. So, to repeat a previous response of mine, If you want to debate the effectiveness of workouts for golf, start a thread on it or contribute to one of the many that already exist on the site.  Because that's not what the OP was asking for. Having said that, I suppose it's his discussion topic and if he doesn't mind you answering questions he didn't ask, I'll step aside.

No im just saying that the skill is the driver of all this. I dunno if you lift or not but if you do you know how little things you do to prepare for and anticipate compound lifts are what makes it easier or purposely harder, safer and efficenent. Like on bench im really cognizant of my elbows staying on my shoulders but I can't get maxxed out like that. If you increase or decrease the different derivatives of acceleration of each component of the lift or swing you can just as well hurt yourself and swing.

The more I lift and golf the more I think actually being pretty built up in general helps as long as you retain mobility in the trail arm.

Strong and smooth pivot, not jerky speed, and much less about fast twitch than is generally proposed.
