I'm tired of seeing all these praises on this damn club all over on here lol. Now I'm curious myself. I keep the same clubs in my bag for a long while predominantly, but this 14th spot in my bag has been a real pain for me to fill. Its been a revolving door for a few years now, and i could never get whatever club this space occupies to stay for long.

So this will be my first EVER Callaway club. So tell me... why I'm seeing people saying the UW is a low launcher? Does it launch low compared to an actual fairway wood ? or is it one of the characteristics of the UW ?

I have played the OG UW’s since they were released. They are not going anywhere. From my experience, I do not find the UW to be low launching or spinning. It does have a very penetrating ball flight and will be a lower than the corresponding fairway wood.  Compared to a hybrid it will not spin as much or launch as high. I find I hold greens without issues with my UW setup.  The shot shape is neutral and pretty much point and hit. I use them as fairway wood or long iron replacements for the most part. These clubs do play long for sure.

The 17* seems to give everyone the most issues for low launch and spin.  Some of these heads have been measured lower than 17* per this forum. The stock setup on the OG UW seemed to cause some headaches for low launch/spin per the UW thread. From my experience, finding the correct shaft and playing length is the key to finding the correct launch and spin.  I never played the stock setup and have not played the new version.

I play my UW’s with the stock tipping (1.5”), but shorter than stock playing length. These clubs are absolutely rocket launchers from the tee box, deck and rough. I do not carry a traditional fairway wood even though I own an Epic Speed 3 wood with GD MAD and Paradym 3HL with GD Tour AD IZ.  I use my 17* as a 3 wood replacement mainly from the tee box and 19/21* to fill the gaps to my irons. The 19* degree is a real workhorse for me and launches better from the deck than the 17* in my experience. I just happen to be on the successful side of this journey with this club. While others will have different opinions and observations for sure.

My setup:

17* - Tour AD IZ

19* & 21* - Tour AD UB

Good luck with the journey!

Check out the 200+ page UW thread lol. IMO the reason that many say it is a low launcher is 100% because of the stock shaft. Callaway did themselves no favors by using the HZRDUS RDX Smoke Black. I put in an Oban Kiyoshi White and it kicked up the launch and spin. My favorite club in the bag.

I was a PROUD parent of a G425 7wood for a few years.  Fav club in the bag... The only problem was, it would get crushed in the wind.  Days with no wind were a breeze if you will.  So, it wasn't perfect.  Enter 24 Apex UW 21*.   They go the exact same distance, but the UW has a more penetrating mid ball flight.  Still has some spin and stopping power.  Needless to say, UW is a better club for me.  It does everything the 7 wood could do, but does not get chewed in the wind.   Another thing to take note is the feel.  UW feels incredible.  Softish, dull almost forged feel.  Addictive.

I think I just built the perfect uw for me. Just all around great versatility and addicting to hit. About a month ago, I got a brand new OG 21* off CPO. Swapped in my Tensei raw orange, +.25”, tipped per MCA for a 7 wood. Also my first and only callaway in the bag. This replaced a 4 iron spot and is about 20 yrds more carry then my 5 iron on a full swing.

Tinkered with a couple 19* last year. And wasn’t getting the spin I wanted but was a weapon off the tee. I recommend putting your favorite shaft in it. I’m not a fan of the rdx black at all.

Honestly a lot of golfers don't have the speed or delivery they think they do.  They don't get fitted for, or know what shaft/spec they should be using.  The UW for me was bent 1* weak and 1* flat with a shaft profile I get along with.  The thing just works in that tricky slot between 3w and 4i.  It can launch it high and soft, or low and piercing while also working it left or right on command.  I do stick other speciality clubs in the top of my bag, but the UW's spot is akin to a driver or putter.

I was attempting to fill the 230yrd spot in my bag and used to hit a Utility iron but thought a 7 wood might be a little better for holding greens.  I tried a few 7 woods but launch and spin were to high for me.  The UW seems to sit between the Utility iron and 7 wood almost like a hybrid would be expected to but without fear of going left on me.  I play a heavier more stiff shaft in it than stock, reading through all the threads it seems pairing the right shaft for this club is crucial and like some have said the stock offering may have not been the best option and with it being fixed swapping shafts is made more difficult for most.  I also play mine shorter than stock but thats true for the rest of my woods/utility clubs.

The only club that hasn't left the bag in 3 years. They're just fantastic once you find the right combo. I think the 17 is low launch, I have the 21 with an AD DI that is just awesome to hit - So much so I do 75% swing with it as well just to use it more than I typically would lol

I literally just unboxed mine from Callaway PreOwned 10 mins ago with my wife sending me a 'why is there a golf club on our front porch' text message 😂 It says 'like new' but this thing is brand new with 0 signs of it ever being hit and it was $70 cheaper. Now I know why everyone loves using that website. Noted.

After doing the research, I went with a 19* because of the reasons you mentioned (though it is a stiff flex) to hopefully combat the problem everyone seemed to have with low/low hard to hit stats on the 17*. Hopefully this thing after all the praise it gets is the right one and the 19* makes it easier to hit and can be that 220-250 club in my bag.

I just got back from hitting the 19* and I definitely need a different shaft. Stock smoke black 70g stiff felt so bad and I couldn't stop hitting low slices/fades on the Sim. I managed to square up 2 shots and sent them 240+ which was awesome to see, but it was tough sledding.

I compared it next to my Nike Covert 20* 3hy which also has a 70g Stiff shaft, but I was flushing my Nike 225 with the stock KuroKage shaft .

Hung around a 100mph swing speed and a 145ish ball speed, just everything low/right. Need to go get fitted for a new shaft I guess and probably learn to hit this thing better to stop the low slices lol

Worth trying the 21 as well - with the shorter shaft you can practially compress these things like you would an iron. Doesn't come out high like a 7W would

Ad DI works great in them as well.

Agree. The 21 is a super weapon when you find the right ball position for your swing. I should add I’m in a mmt 80s

Thanks for the recommendation Ill check out the Ad DI-- unfortunatly I already picked up the 19* because I got a great deal on it so Im stuck with it 😬

It went the perfect distance when hit clean that I was looking to get for gapping purposes with my Nike being in that 215-225 range and the 19* UW being that 230-250 range. The stock shaft just killed me. It was almost too stiff in the tip compared to my Nike if that makes sense? A lot of times with the face open at contact and not getting through square, which I never really have a issue with on my other 70g stiff shafts.

Im not a shaft expert so I don't really know what I'm looking for tbh.

Yea the stock shaft is miserable on it imo.

19 will be fine - They have a heavier head, so I think the smoother feeling shafts work great in them. I've tried both ends of the spectrum shaft wise in them and didnt get alone well with the LL shafts like I do in actual woods

I’m another fan of the 21° UW. The OG was the best looking club and I regret selling it. I currently have the new model UW and it works great as well. I’ll hold on the this one.

I’d go with a 19* or 21*. The 17* is basically just a less forgiving 4 wood. I play the 21 and it can basically do whatever I want it to do. High fade that goes 210? Yes. Low draw that goes 250? Yup. My apex is 120 feet with most clubs but I can make the UW go another 20 feet above that if needed. Super versatile club.

Anyone with a slower swing speed have experience with the 19 vs 21? Currently have the OG in 19* with a graphite design VR shaft. I hit it decently well from the tee, which is mostly why I got it, but wondering if I’m leaving anything on the table not getting the 21 instead. Places around me only carry the 17 and 19 so I can’t compare them myself

I’ve been testing the of uw 21* for 6 weeks and it’s a Goldilocks. Higher and more spin than a hybrid and more versatile than a 7 woods. 7 wood will still get used on certain courses/conditions but the uw does a lot really well.

I have a 19 degree with Ventus Blue 8X.  Love the club but if I could do it again, I would go with the 21 loft.  Need a little more height.  Overall I am very satisfied with the purchase.
