FSX Software Licensing - Why?

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

 

Suppose I have two PCs, 60 yards apart. One is hooked up primarily to a GEARS system with a TV, and the other is hooked up to a projector for sim, virtual range sessions, and club fittings (the fitter brings his own LM and laptop). Call them PC1 and PC2.

 

I can't for the life of me figure out why the FSX software licenses (FSX 2020, FSX Play, FSX Pro) are only valid for one PC (or iPad) at a time, when you have what is effectively a $20k dongle that's required to actually use the software. In other words… I could install the FSX software on 50 machines… but I'm still limited to using it on one machine at a time — the machine with the GCQuad attached to it.

 

This doesn't make much sense to me. I might be willing to pay $19.95 for additional licenses… but honestly, even that seems silly. Why did they choose to go that route? What sense does it make?

 

P.S. I imagine it's probably like a ridiculous $500 or more to add licenses, which makes absolutely no sense to me.

Makes no sense. You need the GCQuad (or whatever) to actually USE the software. Tie it to my login — I can only use it on one machine at a time because… I've got one GCQuad I can use at a time.

In my experience Foresight does not care about their customers and often does not make sense. They could easily tie the license to the Quad or as you said to your log in - if you were logged in on another system, the new login would kick the other session out.

 

They do little for their customers - just look at what it takes to exit the product - upper right click, lower left click to click exit, back to the middle of the screen to click OK, back up to the upper right to bring up the next form, lower left to click exit, middle to confirm exist. That is 5 clicks to exit and 5 screen traversals with the mouse - ridiculous. Just make a drop down in the upper right to exit and if a confirmation is needed, put the dialog box in the upper-right near the menu pick - done.  Sorry, they drive me nuts

Yeah, like I said… you’ve got a $20k dongle. Their explanation that someone was “selling” their software — software you can freely download from their site — doesn’t carry weight because… what are you going to do with the software if you don’t have a Foresight launch monitor?

 

And… unless someone was selling their license codes… I don’t even know what the issue with the software is. Again, you can freely download it. The whole explanation makes no sense. If someone was pirating the so

 

BTW, FSX 2020 and Play cost… $3500 for a SECOND set of licenses. Ridiculous. I told the sales rep he could move the decimal over two places and I’d still have to think about it. It makes zero sense to me.

I’m not TOO annoyed by that stuff — I think it should be tough to “quit” a session for sure — but yeah, it’s not always super obvious where you quit or exit a session. And their iPad software is lousy. But… yeah. I’m just venting a bit about the software licensing.

Bringing up an old topic but anyone have any success on running FSX Pro? I have an iPad as well as computer and it crashes all the time where I have to reinstall the app and the  it runs fine for a few times.

 

Is there anything else you can run off your phone/iPad?
