Golfworks Economy Iron Bending Machine - Forged Irons

For anyone that has the Golfworks Economy Iron Bending Machine, is there any concern using it with forged irons?  
 

The top jaw looks like it is not made of brass and there isn’t a non-marring option available for the economy machine.  

 

I don’t see any bad reviews on it, but just wanted to see if anyone here has experienced an issue with this machine and forged irons. 
 

I plan to purchase the longer non marring bending bar as well. Any other items I may need?

It will work.  Use duct tape on the contact surfaces.

Good idea.  The soling discs are made of brass, would you use tape there also?

Yes.  And a brass hosel protector.  On your bending bar, radius the top and bottom edge of the brass jaws.

I own this machine, and have bent plenty of forged irons/wedges on it. 

 

The top jaw seems to be made from aluminum and hasn't left any marks on the toplines of the clubs I've bent. In fact, the toplines themselves seem to dent the jaw up a little bit, it's soft! If you wanted to play it 100% safe, you could put some masking or duct tape on the topline just in case.

 

The toe stop and soling disks are brass and haven't left any marks on my irons/wedges, except for my old wedges which were 1020 (aka S20) carbon steel. They will leave tiny dents in 1020 or 1018 (very soft steels), but 1025 seems unaffected. You can use tape and/or a small piece of business card for extra protection either way. 

 

I use the heavy duty stock bending bar that came with the machine, which will absolutely mar any hosel it encounters. The Golfworks brass hosel protectors/shims work great though. Not sure if you'd need them for the non-marring bar, but they're cheap so might as well order one or two.

Two pieces of Gorilla tape......or a piece of leather

I have the same one. Use some of this tape on the topline and toe and you won't have any issues. I personally bought a couple of sheets of brass (also linked) that I cut out small pieces and put between the iron sole and brass soling disks. The first irons I bent, the toe side disk left a small dent in the sole. Small pieces of brass sheets in between prevent that.
