Scheffler swing explained and drill

What do you think of the drill?

I'm also curious to hear what the pros think. I know sometimes certain moves call for the 'nike drill' but is this one of them? In his drills he was was sweeping that trail foot to his lead heel before delivery. Scheffler and the other examples didn't sweep their trail foot until after impact.

I'm one of the guys that tends to go this way (15:52)

So I work a lot on flamingo and banking type drills to quiet down the right knee. But the drills where I get this for free are the 'keeping my back to the target' or no-turn drills

keeping my back to the target + no spikes + morning dew = scheffler foot slipping out from under me, behind me, every time.

Thanks for commenting.  What is the banking drill? I tried kostis drill it's hard with long clubs and my 66 yo left knee hurt.

Nothing fancy, just focused practice on getting the right foot to roll on the instep toward the target rather than that move I clipped in my previous reply. They talked about it in around the 15min mark of the video you posted.

A couple other good ideas on how to accomplish this:

-Put a golfball underneath the outside of your trail foot so you're forced to push off your instep

-Slide the face of a wedge underneath your trail heel, don't let the shaft of the wedge fall to the ground until after impact/close to follow through

-Put a range bucket over your trail foot (like a shoe, so the sole of your spikes is touching the inside of the bucket rather than the ground) and hit balls. You'll find it's way easier to bank that trail foot because the curvature of the bucket naturally wants to roll forward toward the lead foot. Also, if your ankle hits the rim of the bucket, you'll know immediately if your right leg has moved toward the target.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

I think it was this year's Houston Open when one of the TV commentators, referring to Scheffler making this trail foot motion, said it was an odd move and that he really shouldn't be doing it.  Of course, every round I hear a number of stupid or ill-informed comments from them.

The scheffler right foot drag, the Hogan right foot drag, and the modern spin cycle left foot drag are all fundamentally different movements and shouldn’t be conflated.

Scheffler: big lateral shift, low torso rotation

Hogan: big lateral shift, high torso rotation

Modern: low lateral shift, high torso rotation

Just because the GRF traces are generally in the same direction doesn’t make them the same.

Feet slide when they lose friction in the presence of shear force.

The kostis/mccord drill where you manually try to do a stunt which makes your pelvis try to back up while you rotate your shoulders forward and throw your arms out at the ball is a good way to hurt yourself.

That certification hasn't come through yet?

I've been doing this for over a year now but more so the bowler drill. It helps prevent my trail knee from firing toward the ball. I'm sure you will have more people trying it but having no idea why they are doing it.

I started doing this "Scotty Shuffle"  myself several years ago when I was fighting early extension and trying to hit a fade, apparently just for the reasons Kostis describes.  I didn't start doing it deliberately; it just kind of came out of nowhere, especially under pressure/in tournaments.  My thought was that I was putting my weight on to my left side too early, and as I tried to pushed off my right side, it just gave way as there was very little pressure into the ground with my right foot.

Then I tried to stop doing it as it looked like I was about to fall down half the time when I was hitting the ball, I didn't know I was doing an elite power move.......
