Are there any pressure mats/ force plates that are less than $5k?

Hey golf addicts,

Looking at these pressure plates online... they seem to be very expensive. Are there any cheaper options that are still good? Kinda like how Trackman is really expensive but the Mevo+ is less accurate but alot less expensive.

You could look into these:

https://www.amazon.com/SALTED-Smart-Insole-Motion-Sensor/dp/B09ZTRP4QG/ref=asc_df_B09ZTRP4QG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=598354936523&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6057966200689718929&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031285&hvtargid=pla-1680465947704&mcid=c397c4c5845531b884f70ef57d312dca&gclid=CjwKCAjwt-OwBhBnEiwAgwzrUoQweQ_LdsiVQRwyg389Jmi4hCxebqUWvFuBHRtF3tXjJlq84MYdyxoC3AQQAvD_BwE&th=1

I have another golf instructor buddy who sent me a pair. I've goofed around with them a little bit. They seem generally accurate but not sure exactly how accurate. I presume the fidelity of the measurements they are giving you is quite a bit noisier and less precise than actual pressure plates. They are cool though.

I have those and think they're pretty useful provided you already know what you should be looking for in your trace. But, ya, I'm not sure about their fidelity either and have been wanting to get on a BT or SC with them in my shoes to compare. That comparison could make them pretty useful, knowing where there might be some differences.

Back like a decade ago or so I went to some facility that had all this golf instructor tech for people to use for a fee, mostly instructors to use for a lesson. I just went because I wanted to get on trackman to hit some balls but you could use everything they had as well.

Had no idea what I was doing but I remember I was hitting some pushes on trackman. I got on their pressure trace mats and saw my trace was basically in to out, had no idea what I was doing but thought a linear trace would be good. Messed around on it until my trace was linear and it ended up straightening out my path so my shot went straight and cleaned up some early extension as well.

Exactly. I'll have some pressure plates soon so it will be fun to see the differences.

Makes sense. There would be a good correlation between pelvis direction/rotation and pressure trace, which would align pressure trace with general swing direction.

saw those insole ones when they were still a prototype. not sure how accurate or functional they are.

i designed and built one that was under $2k retail.

used a usb battery pack, so it was portable, indoors or out. video synchronized with data in ipad app, so you could slide to any point in swing. worked like a charm. frequency was 3x higher than all others, so more/accurate data points.

discontinued it. market is saturated.

using it with some guy i spent time with who's leading the masters:

there's a tendency to overestimate the market size of instructors who earn their living by only teaching and with the chops to know how to apply stuff. You're not an average instructor...

if you have one already, you don't need two. and some don't have much money left after buying a launch monitor. remember the old adage of the $25,000 LM in the trunk of the rusty 2003 ford. 🙂

also, a lot of early pressure stuff sold by others got used a few times, broke, took forever to get fixed, then put in the closet. it tainted the market.

tough business!

@Soloman1 What about other markets? Not going to be the easiest to break into, but someone along the lines of GolfTec, Dick's/GG, or whoever could certainly spare the cash and make returns off of a single unit per location. Decent number of spenders who would pay for a bay rental to get mappings at the more reasonable hourly rates possible at some of the retailers/chains like that. Only takes one of them to make it worthwhile.

There's also the route of selling to a few one-off facilities. Been to some that have high enough annual memberships to justify spending on full Toptracer or better setups in multiple bays. If they're willing to drop $10K or more a year for a handful of those without owning them I'm sure you could talk the right owners into dropping thereabouts once for equipment they'd own and that more players are coming to know the value of. Probably could talk some college teams or golf academies into buying a few off you as well if they haven't already gone in on competitors that don't work as well as your design.

Looks like your UI is clean and if it's reading as accurately & often as you're saying then it's not hard to see it as an easy choice over other options. Add in a few traces from some friendly pros for easy comparison and couldn't really ask for more. Get something going and you'd be able to carry a little spare inventory for the occasional pros wise enough to see the value as well.

If you've already gone those routes or don't care feel free to ignore me. Simply musing as it would be nice to see the field going in that direction where we could have something portable enough to take to a session with a local pro or just to the range for work on our own. Also assuming you've gone through all the headaches of related patents and trademarks and having seen all those hoops navigated thought I'd throw it out there given the work you must have put in to date.

appreciate your input.

yes, we did all that and more. and spent a lot of time and money doing it. again, the domestic market is smaller than many think. international distributor sales were more than domestic sales. europe and asia have more technology early adopters than north america.

discontinued it 7 years ago. it was more advanced then than most today., but being on the leading edge is a double edged sword.

cheers

Looks like they have data for comparison, similar to Hackmotion, which is something Salted insoles is missing. Huge price difference, and only in EU so far, but much more useful to the average player.

I have Salted insoles.  They were good - but I think the $200 is better spent on chi-fi cameras.  You can more or less see when you're shifting pressure imo.

I emailed them and the response suggested they would launch in the U.S. in Q4 2024.  We'll see.

Uneekor Balance is <$2k but there are many reviews out there and I don't know a lot about force measuring devices to compare.

The possible downside is that you have to use it with their software ecosystem as far as I know but the feedback I've seen has been very positive on integration and how well it all works with their launch monitor and cameras.

There is a new one I saw called sensor edge.  I haven't looked too much into them but it seems they provide pretty decent data for $3,500.
