I had applied for he annual practice round ticket lottery since The Masters Tournament Committee created it back in 1995.   I finally was selected for Tuesday practice round tickets for the 2020 Masters.  My excitement turned into exasperation as Covid wiped out attending.  Of course I had access to the online merchandising store.  These tickets would be honored for the 2021 Masters but this was going to be limited attendance. I received my rejection letter and was refunded the price if the tickets.  However, the Masters Tournament Committee came to a decision for those who had the 2020 tickets and was not able to use them for the 2021 Masters, our spot would be guaranteed for the 2022 Masters tournament.  That being said me and my friends attended the 2022 Masters Tuesday practice round.  We were on the course for 2 1/2 hours or so, just enough time to get through the merchandising building and meet up.  One of my guys went astray (given wrong directions to ship his merch) so me and my best friend went down towards #10 to walk the back 9. Of course weather would play a factor at this point. As we walked by the putting green the siren to evacuate the course sounded.  My friend asked what we should do.  I said we keep walking the back 9 until we’re asked to leave.  We walked down 10, 11 and got to the stands at 12.  Then we heard someone saying “YO!”  Yes, my lost friend who was going to ship his merch has been pointed to the course.  We had a picture taken and continued down 13, crossed over 14 to 15 then went over to 16.  Then the weather looked to be close so we went up 17 and crossed over to the main scoreboard and left the course.  My other friend had waited for shipping boy to show up, which he didn’t.  After a long walk back we all met up by shipping boy’s truck and got in. Then it began to rain buckets and he lightning show began.  Later that day Chairman Ridley announced that those holding 2022 Tuesday tickets would have their spot guaranteed if applying for the 2023 Masters.  Not sure if it was for all 2022 tickets or those emanating from 2020.  That said I applied and we got to spend most of the Tuesday at the 2023 Masters Tournament.  Each year I had access to the merchandise store (online for 2020 and 2021, at the course for 2022 and 2023).  My wallet still feels the pain but it was worth it.

In a stroke of good fortune, shipping boy won Monday practice round tickets for this years Masters so I was fortunate to attend. This marks 3 years attending the Masters and the past 5 with merchandising access.  I know so many others have never been so I realize I am very, very fortunate.  Persistence IS the key here.  I have applied to every lottery drawing for both practice round tickets and to the tournament.  I will continue to do so and if I never am fortunate to be selected again, I feel blessed to have had the 2020 tickets as they yielded 4 years of connecting with the tournament.

Best of luck to all this coming lottery.

I'm 0 for 14 but got to go this year as a friend of a friend's parents have badges that no one in the family was going to use so got to go all 4 days.

The ticket process is really weird.  The fact that some 92 year old lady has had tickets for her life and lots of other non golf fans have tickets for life because someone in their family years ago bought them is really weird.  When I was checking my merchandise on Saturday the lady behind me was picking hers up and leaving at 10am.  She said they don't ever stay past noon.

They also closed the waitlist for badges and heard a guy talking about how his dad wrote a letter so he could pass the tickets onto him.  I'm all for tradition but a really weird dynamic with day ticket lottery winners, badge holders , corporate tickets, PGA/GCSAA/LPGA and then members and their guests.  Quite the social hierarchy on display (also seen in the volunteers/staff).

I believe ANGC has eliminated the transferring of badges to other family members.

After entering for many years I was awarded tickets for Wednesday in 2017 and we went with a good friend of mine, we were so excited to say the least.  We flew to Atlanta while the other couple drove and picked us up.  The timing worked out perfect.  We arrived on a Monday and knew the forecast was sketchy for Wednesday but were holding on to hope.  Unfortunately, Wednesday turned into an absolute bust.

There was an initial rain delay if I recall.  We were able to get onto the course for only about 45 minutes to an hour until the sirens started indicating to vacate the course.  We waited in our car for almost 2 hours and decided once we got back in to go straight to the gift shop.  We were in and out of there as quick as we could but it is so busy it still took a while.  After we got out I was able to walk the course for only another 30 minutes or so, maybe less and the sirens went again.  This time they canceled the entire day including the par 3 contest.  Looking at the history of champions, it is the only time they canceled a par 3 contest due to weather.  We were all so disappointed, we had hardly any time on the course.  I saw part of 10, 11 and 12 and 15 IIRC.

We heard rumblings they would honor us with tickets again for next year but we never were contacted.  I hope we didn't miss some communication from Augusta!!!  I remember reading a story of a rain out a few years ago and Augusta released a statement everyone would be invited back the next year.  Maybe they thought we had enough time on the course or it wasn't ever a thought until recently.

Wish I had a success story to tell.

I am officially 0 for 23.

My good friend mentioned he'd love to go 8 years ago and started applying and hasn't had any luck either. We were talking the other day that it just didn't seem right that one of us hadn't drawn out yet.

In the last 9 years we've been on 7 bucket list golf trips together, 2 overseas and Bandon later this year but none to Augusta.

I can’t believe the amount of people here loving practice rounds over the real rounds.  As Allen iverson said “we talking about practice “.  The roars and tension of the real rounds are unmatched.  Been to both and no way would I pick a practice round over a competition round.   Been going over 20 years.

After over a decade of futility trying to gain access to the grounds, I'd happily take time off and fly to Georgia for a first time visit to the Masters on a Mon-Wed.  I may actually prefer it if it means I get to bring 3 friends vs having to decide who my +1 is.

Here's some recent history of course closures and what happened with the tickets; your WED 2017 wasn't refunded or given tickets the following year, so you didn't miss out on anything 🙂

MON 2014 - Rained - Course closed at 10am, original purchasers got their money back, and had right to purchase for 2015

TUE 2022 - Rained - Course closed at 11am, no one got their money back, original purchaser had right to purchase for 2023

WED 2022 - Rained - Course closed at Noon, no one go their money back, no right to purchase for 2023  EDIT: Just had to take cover for a period of time, Par 3 took place

MON 2019 - Lightning - Course closed at 2pm, no one go their money back, no right to purchase for 2020

WED 2017 - Storms - Course opening delayed, then opened for a few hours, Par 3 started at 12:30p but eventually stopped, no refunds, no right to purchase 2018

So if history serves, ANGC provides refunds if the course is opened for less than 2 hours.  After than, NO REFUNDS!! 🙂

That is interesting to read, thanks for that.  I wonder how long the course was truly open that day with the delayed opening and then the mid-morning closure.  It was probably only 3 hours total for the whole day but it's probably more because you have to wait in line so much you don't realize the opening time was well before you actually get in.  Thanks again.

This was done in 2022 for the Tuesday practice round.  The reason this was done was because these tickets were hold overs from the 2020 Masters that Covid eliminated Patron attendance.  There was limited attendance for 2021 and those 2020 ticket holders who were not selected were guaranteed our same spots in 2022.  Due to weather evacuation and being 2020 tickets the exemption was made.

I just passed year ten. If you count me applying via my in-laws, my dad, two of my wifes aunt and uncles, and my boss: I've got 52 total applications in and haven't been selected.

I can't complain too much as I did get to go two years ago via a friend, but man I'd love to actually win the darn thing one day.

I’ve signed up for as long as I can remember but have never won. Luckily my father-in-law signed up a handful of times and won Tuesday tickets for 2017 so my oldest son and I got to go. We got lucky that year as the weather was terrible on Monday and Wednesday but was perfect on Tuesday. My youngest is now a golf nut and is ready for his turn - just signed up once again.

People go to the Masters to:

Eat cheap concessions.
See the course.
Brag about attending.
Check off sporting event bucket list event.
Buy gnomes and other merch.

Watching golf is at the bottom of the list.   A lot easier and cheaper to watch pros at any other tour stop, especially a local one.

When the lottery first began, you had to find an ad placed in the local paper (Augusta paper) and then fill out a physical form and mail it in. The FIRST year of lottery for practice round, my Father and I both received practice round tickets. That was around 1994 or so. Since then, I am 0 for 30 years!!

Look at the slickdeals.net website and you will see why us that care about golf no longer win. Every grandma is applying as a way to make money and it is being pitched on multiple sites. When actual forms had to be filled out or some effort put into it, it weeded out the lazy.

I've heard stories of people simply requesting 1 ticket for 1 day and winning almost every year but no idea how true those are. I just request the max amount every year, the whole reason I wanna go is to get a group together and road trip down from IL and hit some courses along the way. As much as I love the Masters I can't really imagine i'd want to go experience it by myself.

O for 21 until this year. Won 2 Sunday tickets and just got back home. Incredible experience. At the North Gate at 5:30am yesterday, and maybe in the first few hundred in line. Walked us up about 30 yards from security at 7 and and let us in before 8 I'm sure. Shopping done, all purchases checked ( so easy) and breakfast eaten by 8:40am. Strolled up to the putting green, sun is just blanketing the entire course and the first thing I see is Tiger and Charlie on the putting green. Stood 10 feet away ( behind the rope :))for about 15 minutes and watched them interact. The entire trip was worth it right there. Easy peazy roaming about following groups on the course, no desire for a chair and plenty of room in the grandstands if we needed a rest. Obviously crowded at 11/12 and 16 but great viewing otherwise. The course layout is much more compact than it appears on TV and you can cross fairways easily to see a lot of action. Ex. Watched the last 5 groups on 3 right at the rope, walked roughly 40 yards and caught earlier groups teeing off on 17, crossed 17 fairway and was right at the approach area on 15 on the right side, crossed 15 fairway and plenty of room in the 15 grandstands. Stayed about 30 minutes and watched groups play 16. You get the idea. Very crowded at 11 green/12 tee/13 green/ 16 green, but in between not difficult at all. We hit the concession stands 5 times and my total spend was $52.00 ( no alcohol) for food...

Love the tournament experience and may go the practice round route next year if we miss the lottery.

If you get another chance to go, splurge & try the Crow's Nest beer for $6. Big mystery around town who brews it...it's very good!

1 FOR 13.

Managed to win 4 monday practice round tickets. I max it out every year and was lucky enough to get my name drawn this year! Took my father in law, co-worker and best friend. Was a dream come true for all of us and it blew our expectations out the water. Hopefully I get another chance to attend someday.

Good luck to all that enterered this lottery!! 🙂
