NBA Playoffs

I used the search function and didn’t find anything besides the thread calling the NBA a joke. So even though I realize the NBA is about as popular here as an STD, I decided to add a thread. Has to be a few here watching and enjoying. Will add I watch very little basketball besides the Warriors outside of the playoffs.

Great game this evening! Edward’s and the Wolves send the Suns packing in 4 straight 🧹 Ant Edward is phenomenal and such an exciting player to watch. Suns keep loading up and melting down when it counts. B Beal at $50 MM per was a horrible addition.

Watching Wolves @ Nuggets game 2 as I write this. Whoa! Wolves came out and punched ‘em in da mouth! Their defensive is simply phenomenal. Good stuff 🙌🏼

Watching from Down Under. Follow OKC but really am just happy to watch the Aussies do well wherever they play.

 

3 Aussies in the OKC/Mavs series. Should be a great series. I’m tipping the Mavs in 6.

 

Wolves look ominous. KP’s injury for Boston could flip the script somewhat.

 

Love watching Thibs’ Knicks play. The Philly series was entertaining, as was Game 1 vs Pacers

There is a small college about 20 min from me that recruits heavily outta Australia every season. Patty Mills and Matthew Dellavedova went there. Perhaps a chance you are familiar w/the program.

If ANT stays healthy he'll end up in the likes of MJ, Kobe, LeBron territory....I had Nuggets in 7 before the series but these Wolves are terrifying on defense...I don't think Murray is healthy at all and Joker has to do too much at this point. gentlemen sweep is the likely outcome now.

I saw the ‘Ant is the next MJ’ stuff. It had been a while. For a minute there was a “next MJ” seemingly on the monthly. Bit early for sure and a big mountain to climb. But he’s definitely “different”. 
Murray isn’t healthy. But after throwing the heat pack on the court, will he even be eligible to play the next game???

Speaking of Delly, he now plays for my home team - Melbourne United. They made the finals and lost a 5 game series on the last play of Game 5.  Delly missed a Hail Mary from inside the half court.  Heartbreaker

Two interesting aspects for me anyway.

 

The teams that rely on one or two superstars may get into the playoffs, but they will loose. The reason that they loose is the play of the supporting cast. They defer to the superstars. The better teams, particularly defensively, overwhelm the individual stars, and the stars must play to an exceptional level for any chance of winning even a single game.

 

The winners are the teams with stars, but when the stars are targeted, the supporting players have a field day.  Boston, TWolves, OKC.

 

The announcers- Kenny, Shaq, Charles, actually become emotionally charged. It shows what actual players really care about. The regular season is a job.

The league is so deep now i'm not sure the whole Daryl Morey "2-3 stars and a bunch of Schnooks" is still even really a thing.

 

How many stars does Minnesota, Denver, Boston really have? It's hard to answer that question. Before this season we thought Phoenix was the prototypical NBA team, 3 "stars" and a bunch of schnooks.....but Phoenix sucked.

 

There are so many Jaden Mcdaniels or Jalen Williams in the league now....I don't even know what "stars" are anymore. Denver is Jokic with 4 other really solid guys. OKC is SGA with 4 really solid guys. 

 

The days of Udonis Haslem or Derek Fisher playing 35 minutes at 39yrs old are long gone. League is too good now

IMO it’s similar to golf. The availability of training at the highest levels is producing far more “very good” players than was possible before.

 

Again IMO Phoenix failed due to a lack of leadership on the part of the star players. It had nothing to do with the coach. KD and Booker are almost anti-leaders. Contrast them with Brunson. Great leader. Steadying influence.

Whatever happens, the Wolves showed nicely this playoffs. Our boy Ant is gonna get better and better and their team is pretty young. Nothing is guaranteed but i would bet Denver is not looking forward to grinding with these guys every year

 

Kinda reminds me of the old Memphis Grizzlies with Z-Bo and Gasol. Except a better version of that. 

 

Im really loving the West---look at these 4 teams---every single one of them is fun.
