I haven't heard much of Kisner in the booth but when he stopped in with Smylie he was good.  Better than I expected.  I also liked Luke Donald.  I'm a sucker for an accent.

I doubt Donald would accept a full time booth gig since he’s captaining the RC team again.

With all the hemming and hawing by NBC, just beg Miller to come back for the US and Open Championships for this year. Then decide what real path NBC wants to venture forth into the future. If they want to be cheap, there are plenty on the GC that can fill that chair at a reasonable price since they are already being paid by NBC/Universal and obviously really don't care about ratings.

No disrespect to any of the current crop of NBC announcers, but in my humble opinion they are all terrible especially for majors.  Please give NBC brass the memo to bring back the likes of Johnny Miller, Bob Costas and Jimmy Roberts.  Sure they may not be "trendy" in this current climate, but golf commentary is not and will never be about the current social weather patterns.  I want announcers who are entertaining to listen to, know their stuff and can provide fascinating insight during the round and in between holes via documentary style segments.  Just my two cents!

As the article says, Kisner may not be a choice of the USGA, he's okay - nothing special as a broadcaster.  Faxon is good, Bones is good - hardly a crisis, just something to get views several days ago - I'm sure they appreciate the additional advertising of their article.

Who really cares?  People will tune in to watch the U.S. Open, not check the broadcasting roster ahead of time.

NBC has been wielding the hatchet for some time now, so not even surprising but again . . . not something anybody really cares about.

The bigger concern for anyone watching is the number of commercials that get crammed down our throats. We just want to see the golf. All four of the majors should find a way to have very limited commercials like The Masters.

It’s not only NBC that is having trouble with staff.  This is a sentence written by a Golfdigest staffer:

“But Azinger, who along with Johnny Miller are the only men to sit in the analyst chair since 1990, was only the latest scalp.”

That's correct.  Azinger replaced Johnny Miller in 2018. NBC got cheap and didn't want to pay Azinger. they should have paid him the money.....he was in the head of the people that disliked him..... 😂😂

Pretty sure no TV exec understands how much we (large percentage of us) do not care about hours of pre-game, on field stupid a** interviews, walk & talk, or who is in the booth.  Broadcast teams are like a big internal circle jerk, that grows and grows; each believing they are something special.  Good for them getting paid to bump their lips, but it adds nothing to the event.  God help us trying to watch the Olympics this summer.

All I see are production costs sky rocketing and my streaming bill going up.

I'm 50% on Mute so should climb off my soap box 😂

Nah, golf is a slow sport... golf is a television reality show, with a golf tournament going on.

The pregame content and interviews are all part of the pageantry. LOL! They sell media rights for (on-the-range, Live with programming, etc....)

It's all a 2 billion dollar business.

LOL, they worked for NBC.

You clearly don’t understand how tv contracts work. Commercials are how broadcast partners and the tour make money. CBS/NBC/ESPN pay the tour to broadcast golf.
The Masters has limited commercials because they don’t need the ad revenue. The majority of revenue comes from ticket sales

A great combination would be having Kisner and Goydos in the booth together.  They have a similar style/philosophy and would feed off of each other.

I enjoy the after-round interviews, particularly when Amanda balionis does them.  And while I hate the name, I like the addition of the "walk and talk" (I'd just call it an on -course interview).  I think golf would be horribly boring to watch if all we saw was the golf.  I do wish they'd play more caddie/golfer interactions, but I imagine the golfers aren't keen on that because they don't want to have any conflict rumors starting, or show folks how much they rely on the caddie, plus they'd probably have to play them on delay to bleep some language.

I understand how it works. The major championships are not the PGA Tour, a separate entity that has jack squat to do with organizing & broadcasting the major championships.

The USGA, R&A, and PGA of America should be pushing for a lot better situation in their 3 major events compared to a regular Tour event with a billion commercials.

Those organizations don’t care about the tv product as long as they get their money. The USGA is getting close $40 million a year from NBC (were getting $90 million from fox). The networks still need to make money somehow.
