Accra Shogun Shafts?

I don't think they are an answer to the Ventus as the Blue is only available in superlight weight and flex. The green seems to be a full blown WB profile which has my attention.

These follow the old FX/new GX colourways. Blue is their traditionally softer, smoother design with more kick. The green is their "normal" profile that most people would fit into and the red would be for your more aggressive players. This comes with a caveat though, these profiles bring to mind traditional red, blue, and white bend profiles. However, Accra FX and GX do not follow these bend profiles, and I would assume the same for the Shogun. At least in the FX series, and perhaps they have changed it slightly for the GX/Shogun but I doubt it, they follow a more Tensei Orange profile, where it is medium in the handle, stiff in the mid section, and tapers off gradually towards a mid level tip section. They use this exact same profile for all 3 shafts but beef up the stiffness linearly across the shafts as you go up in stiffness (i.e. from blue to green to red) and in weight.

If you are after a more traditional Blue or White profile, you would need to look at the TZ series of shafts.

I guess by “answer to Ventus” I more meant based on the technology they’re highlighting. Reading the marketing release (and, sure, it’s marketing) it’s basically:

1. A super high modulus material to reduce ovaling (a la spread tow)

2. A way of orienting the carbon layups to improve consistency (a la velocore).
Sound familiar?

“The new “ACCelaron MX” material (from Toray Japan) enhances feel, strength, and consistency throughout the shaft from the core through the outer layer. ACCeleron MX is an ultra lightweight 5K material incorporating a revolutionary composite (high modulus/high elasticity) material resulting in a rapid recovery (speed), negligible ovaling (stability) resulting in unparalleled performance.

ACCRA Shogun features “Tornado Material Stabilization”. This manufacturing method evenly distributes composite material strength around the circumference of the shaft, increasing consistency throughout. “TMS” technology stabilizes the behavior of the shaft at all swing speeds and results in the most consistent golf shaft the ACCRA has ever produced.”

Personally, I read it more as a second stab at their J-Spec series that has been dead for about 5-6 years now. Higher tolerance materials in a lighter weight package with increased handle and tip strength via exotic materials.

What do think the difference is between GX and Shogun, stability??

It looks like they use higher end materials and have stiffened them up considerably. I would imagine this is Accra's (I.e. True Tempers) boutique response to Ventus and Tensei 1K.

I have been an RPG guy for years. Played the 1st gen in red in both Dr and 3w. Also have a blue that I would put in my Dr on really windy days. I am currently playing 2nd gen LBP in the Dr and a HBP in the 3w. Just love these shafts. I'm having a Shogun Red built that I hope to have by the weekend. I will report back once I've had a chance to put it in play.

Finally received the new Shogun Red 62 M4. Played 2 rounds with it in my TSR4.  Was unsure at first. It seemed to change the sound of the strike for me, although I was not swinging very well the first trip out. Performance seemed on par with the 2nd Gen RPG it was replacing. Second round I didn't seem to notice the change in sound as much, but still seemed a little higher pitched to me. Performance still seemed just equivalent to the RPG. But... I put it in a new GT4 last weekend and Holy Smokes! it was good. It just seemed soo easy to hit.  Great sound. Great feel.  Better performance wise. It was definitely longer and just seemed to want to go straight.  So much fun to hit!  It is only one round, but couldn't be happier.  Looking forward to next weekend.

Is the M4 stiffer than normal? Not sure to go M4 or M5 in red 62

Do you mean stiffer than a normal stiff shaft? Or than other ACCRA M4's? It doesn't feel any stiffer to me than the M4 RPG I've been playing. ACCRA, even in M5 don't "feel" really stiff to me. They are such a smooth feeling shaft. I played M5 (RPG's mainly and 1 Tour X In a 3W for a while) for a long time, but I'm 55 now and have had 4 back surgeries and a fusion, and have lost some speed. I don't notice any real feel difference between M4 and M5. ACCRA is stable enough that even if you are in between or just really try to step on one every now and then, you won't overpower the M4. If you have a PGA Superstore near you, see if they have some you can hit and compare. I saw the Shoguns in the store that just opened near me. It sucks that with ACCRA is it is very hard to find somewhere that you can demo them.

Does anyone know what the shogun red m5 cpms at?

I had a blue rpg tour 462 m5 and a rpg tour gold 462 m5 and the blue cpm 278 and the gold was 293 which made it about the stiffest thing in the 60 gram category.  Felt like two different shafts.

wondering if the red is more like the gold or blue.

Agree. And I also observed the same higher pitch sound with Shogun. I paired blue 140 m2 with g430lst, the sound is tiny bit louder compared to the same head with Tensei 1k pro white, but it isn't harsh.
