LAB peeps who went from DF 2.1 to DF 3 ?

Was wondering if any of you have gone from the DF 2.1 to the Df 3 have feedback and thoughts? Pro and Cons?

I specifically am not always in love with the size of the DF 2.1 in general, but especially on short putts, I find it a bit awkward.

The other thing is the sound is a bit tingy and strange, was wondering if that has been improved in the 3.

Overall I have been impressed with the performance from the 2.1, but would love to get the same or similar in smaller package if I could.

Also what shafts have people been going with in the 3? I got the TPT in the 2.1 and sometimes I wonder if its overkill.

I am probably over thinking this, but you know...its WRX :)

I have a DF 2.1 with standard shaft and press pistol grip.  I have similar thoughts as you do with respect to the 2.1. I putt well with it, but I do find the size a bit much and the sound/feel to be tinny. I do also sometimes find something about the shape and centre shaft to have me wondering if I'm correctly set up on short putts.

I'm awaiting a DF 3 with same grip and TPT shaft, hopefully shipped in the next week or two. I'd be curious to see people's thoughts on this. Otherwise, I'll post my own thoughts on the switch in a few weeks.

The DF3 sounds and feels superior, IMO.  It feels 90% as stable (to me) while looking hugely sexier.  I enjoy the gimmie-getter, it’s a nice touch, and you can accessorize it with 3D printed caps from a fellow WRXer (they are on eBay).

I have a DF3 CB and a standard both with TPTs and a standard with a stock shaft (I bought to compare).  Honestly, the stock shaft is really good.  The Accra feels the softest, the TPT does offer the best feedback (and per LAB the highest performance/consistency).  But anyone who plays with a stock shaft should feel just fine about that.

Because this is WRX and we are golf psychos, if you know in your heart of hearts that not having the TPT is going to bother you, just get it - you will NOT regret it (as I’m sure you’ve seen with the 2.1).  I went crazy buying LABs with various shafts to compare - the TPT IS the best.  Worth $400?  To me yes.  To others, maybe not as much.

FYI, I have the 2.1 and found on short putts I have to look at the hole. I am still pushing putting from 5-10' but that is something on me. The DF3 does look great. I wish I could provide more as I have not hit it.

also was wondering if people had feedback about the new pistol vs the larger 3 degree that i have on mine now. I usually putt with my thumbs off now and wondering if the pistol sits better in the hands this way?

The pistol is soooo good.  I use it thumbs off (and pointer fingers off) - feels terrific and looks great.

The only grip that LAB made better was their indestructible OG.  I have no clue why they discontinued that one.

I have a stock 2.1 with steel shaft and Press 3* grip, just bought a DF3 with the Accra shaft and the standard grip. I came from 2 years of Pirettis and probably 20 years of Scottys before that. I have made some absolute bombs with the 2.1 because the roll is so pure. That said, the size is really a PITA in the bag if you walk, and the feel isn’t awesome. But from a forgiveness standpoint, and for me, from an aiming standpoint, it’s awesome.

I bought the DF3 online from the outlet for no reason other than I saw it and wanted to try it. It was literally like a drunk online purchase, but I was dead sober. WTF?

Anyway, I found the DF3 aiming is not the same as the DF2.1; the 2.1 is very square and very natural for me to aim. The first 9 holes with the DF3 I felt like I was always aimed left. I’m sure this is attributed to the difference in the press in the grip. I was ready to bail on the DF3 until I decided to change my stance to be a little open - viola, awesomeness ensues….

The DF3 absolutely feels and sounds better than the 2.1. Honestly, I’m still on the fence about which one I’ll keep in the bag and which one I’ll sell. But yesterday I used the DF3 and shot 37 on the front and the putting was just easy….so the DF3 is in the lead.

Any grips you can compare the press pistol with, similar size?

One of those guys who had the original DF in 2017, and demoed the 2.1 and DF3 in a PGATSS. I will echo the others. DF3 feel is better, the gimme getter is great when practicing, more pleasing size, extremely forgiving The regular steel shaft felt fine in the store but I believe in the TPT, especially on longer putts, feel and feedback is superior, I bet LAB would admit they prefer the TPT.

I went between the Pistol Grip and Presse 3. I don't want to manipulate my wrists or hands and thought the Presse 3 was the better choice for me and my goals.

I guess I feel more comfortable with the standard, but that is mostly just because that it what I have used more in the past.  The CB does feel different.  Not better or worse, just different.  I would not be scared off of going CB, but again it’s not a 1:1 to the standard.

Is the press 3 a good amount bigger then the pistol?

LAB needs a demo store where you can try all the options, buying this stuff blind is kind of annoying. I’m gonna swing by the PGA SS and see if they have any DF3s on hand to try. I’m more than likely gonna light fire to another $900 which chaps my a** since the DF3 came out literally like 3 months after I got my DF 2.1 :(. I have such a love hate thing going on with my 2.1 right now cause I will drain super long unfathomable putts and then miss a bunch of 3 or 4 footers. It’s gotten to the point where I putt the short ones one handed and my make percentage went up 🤣

Not sure how long ago but golf galaxy in pasadena also had some DF3s.  I am in the same situation ready to buy a DF3 but want to make sure I pick the correct grip.  Currently playing a link with TPT.  Going back and forth on ordering with a TPT or accra but think I have to go TPT because I will always want it if I don't order it.

It is wider than the pistol - I went back and forth over 2 days at the PGATSS stroking putts and thought that the Presse 3 just fit what I needed to make sure my wrists and hands were quiet while maintaining a relaxed grip

OK just got back from PGA SS, and pulled the trigger on the DF 3 with a TPT and the Press 3*. I didn't like the pistol, it didn't sit in my hands as well (it's for SURE smaller than the 3* press). The PGA SS in Torrance has a 2.1 with the press 3 and a DF 3 with the pistol, so I got lucky i could roll both. The feel and sound of the DF 3 is WAAAAAY superior to the 2.1, you guys were not kidding. Also hitting shorter putts just felt 1000% less awkward with the DF3. I'm sure selling my custom lie DF 2.1 is going to be a chore, but what else is new. Plus I'm sure it's going to take like 3 months to get the DF3 lol. As I was building it the only thing i wish they had was the type C head marking with a line that goes all the way back. Ended up going with the G marking which is the line that goes all the way through. Also went for the heaver head weights, I'm glad I went and took a look I would have been annoyed with that pistol grip.

i just switched and so far the df3 is easier as far as hitting the right speed but a little more difficult to line up.  The feel is different as there isn't as much mass further away from the end of the shaft.  I love it so far.  The pistol grip is a huge improvement IMO, way easier to hold and easier to feel the clubhead as it swings.

I upgraded to the DF3 from the DF2.1.

The sound and feel is much better. And the size is "better" if you don't like the bigger one + it's nice to pick your ball up with it.

However there is just something about the DF2.1 I like better.

Not sure if it's the bigger head shape I just lign up much better and roll the ball better.

I wish I haven't sold mine.

In which way is it better? And how does it compare to the LA Golf shaft that they aren't offering anymore?

The shafts are made better (perfectly round and consistent), waaaay better feedback.  You feel exactly on the face you strike the ball - like exactly.  It’s impressive.

While I haven’t done my own independent studies (i feel like LAB should release testing data between shafts themselves), I have been shooting my best scores with the 2.1 broomstick with the TPT.  I would look no further, unless you wait for the DF3.

Thanks mate. I love soft feeling shafts, though. Does the TPT feel soft when hit in the center? Or is the "way better feedback" achieved by a harsh feeling shaft even with center strikes?
