Mizuno 245 vs ping i530

Who has hit both? Thoughts? I haven't hit either. Had 225 irons but havent played ping in awhile. Currently gaming zx5 mkii with steelfiber i95.  Miss is left so less offset might help. Round 6hc.

Two great clubs, but totally different in what they do.  The 245’s are a hollow body (i530) would be the comparable iron in the Ping line up,  245’s are built for speed, less spin, i230 should spin a lot more for most and generally that spin can help with more control

Sorry, I'm blaming auto correct.  Meant to say i530.

I’ve hit both. My observations:

- i530 is a larger club head than 245, heel to toe. But the top line is similar. The i530 top line actually looks great to my eye.

- i530 goes farther and spins a little less. This might be 100% just the difference in lofts. I saw similar peak heights and landing angles.

- 245 feels softer, for sure. i530 isn’t awful sounding/feeling like the i525 was, though, in my opinion.

- i530 is more forgiving, without question. 245’s forgiveness is more comparable to the i230 in my opinion.

The zx5 sole is quite a bit bigger. Will be doing a fitting at noon. Zx5, mizuno forged, 245, blueprint s, p790 and i530 20240517_100756.jpg.5e52405f7294bdff4c7c9f921d521d7c.jpg

I found the 245's to be pretty slow in comparison to PXG Gen 6 P and Ping i530. I actually found the JPX 923 Forged a more comparable club to the pings, definitely faster than the 245.

Hit the 923 forged and the i530 compared to my zx5. Both were about 5 yards longer, forged Maybe up to 10 on some shots.

I struggled thinning a lot of i530 shots.  And spin was only around 4400-4600. He didn't like the spin so low.

He recommended just keeping the zx5.

Did hit the wilson forged. They were pretty nice. Felt really good. Just didn't perform any better then the zx5.

Going to be tough to beat those ZX5’s, especially if you get along with that v-sole

I had both the 245's and the i530's.  The i530 definitely feels spicier than the 245's.

Own new P790 and i530. Sold my 245s due to shafts not a fit for me. ALL of these heads are as forgiving as the other. NO DIFFERENCE except sound/feel. I play i530s due to my shaft choice. Coke/Pepsi, Chocolate or vanilla ice-cream, your choice, results will not vary...IMHO

I did not love the 245’s feel. I thought the the 923 forged and zx5 feel significantly better.

I thought the 530 felt solid. Better than i525 for sure.

i530 is longest, but obviously has stronger lofts. and probably the most forgiving. But obviously that depends on you miss.

Zx5 launches a little higher than all of them.

i thought the 923 forged was the most pleasantly surprising.

They all perform very similarly for me. Small launch differences.

I have all 3 of these sets. If I had to pick one set to play in a tournament, my choice would be ZX5.

All 3 are good, but the ZX5 Mkii is my favorite.

Strongly but respectfully disagree, here. I’ve hit the 245 plenty, and I find them to be easily less forgiving than the i530. The 245 is a smaller footprint and a thinner more compact club all around.

I had over 30 rounds on my 245s (225s before that) and 13 with my i530. My miss is on the toe and no appreciable difference on my distance, dispersion or scoring with either (9hcp). If the Mizzy's had the Alta CB I would have kept them.

I definitely appreciate that. Different experiences I suppose. I thought 2nd Swing hit the nail on the head with their comparison between the 245 and i530. They said the 245 is more for the player who used to play blades or players irons and is still looking for that compact shape with performance. Conversely, they said the i530 is geared more towards the player who is moving from game improvement into players distance. I’m not sure exactly what it is (I’m a 14 hcp), but I found the i530 much more user friendly. Using the same shaft, my mishits performed better with the i530. I’m sure it also comes down to swing speed. If you have a high enough swing speed, the drop off won’t be as significant. My 7i speed is 80-82.

I’ve been blinded by all the BPS talk that I forgot they came out with i530. Probably because i525 I was just not a fan of. But I will have to go hit i530 now. I have t150 now, but am not hitting them well and I’m bored so I want to hit 243,BPS,ZX7 MKII and now i530.
