Smoking Weed on the Course

Just curious, what is it about golf that is not satisfying enough that you find the need to be stoned?  Maybe you should find another activity that suits you better.

Golf is very satisfying! I enjoy an adult beverage and legal substance while playing. It's not like you would even know my "buzz" level if you didn't see me indulge, and assume I'm blown out.I carry myself in a very ethical way on the course so unless you've walked in one's shoe's or heads why judge. The only thing that matters to myself is don't be a jerk, respect others ,no slow played allowed.

Doesn’t bother me. Lots of people take gummies pre round as well. If you are concerned about the smell there is always a vape pen as well.

Man, I’ve tried this, and I’m simply meant to play golf sober. I enjoy gummies, I enjoy brown liquor, but I just can’t play at all under the influence.  Some can, but not me!

If people didn't consume substances on the golf course they would probably be empty.  The majority of golfers head to a course to have fun and spend time with the buds.  They don't care about getting better nor lowering their handicap.

BTW I'm someone that wants to play my best and rarely consume anything on a golf course, but to each his own.

This is such a bizarre statement.  Could you say th same thing about fishing or attending a sporting event. Or doing anything in life that involves some sort of skill? I know watching a game takes no skill but why indulge, the game itself should be enough right? I personally play about 1/2 the time sober and do strive to get better . Just find it bizarre people passing judgment or throwing a blanket over everyone that indulges.

IMO it has nothing to do with golf.  There are human beings with different brain chemistry than you.  It sounds like you were blessed, good for you.

Mostly Wishon with a few Tour Edge Exotics, Cobra, Cleveland, and one Odyssey mixed in.

Why is it a bizarre statement?  The majority of golfers never improve which is fact and that's completely fine.  It's a game.  Go have fun and if you like to drink or smoke on the course then do your thing.  As long as you aren't breaking any laws and keep pace I don't care what you do.

Don't mind what people do unless it affects me, i.e. smell. I am much the same with music - I don't care about what you do unless I can hear it.

Had a situation on this topic during a golf tournament.  Son and I were paired up for two days with a dude that had a serious issue with pot.  He was totally wasted by the turn and had us well behind the group in front.  I'm talking we'd hit off the tee and head off to our shots.  Look back and see this guy still sitting on the tee box in a haze.  Rules will be changed next year per the organizer after a rather lengthy discussion about it.  He was paired up with another group the last day and they weren't happy either.

This activity has NO place on a golf course. Operating a vehicle under the influence is illegal in every state where marijuana has been legalized.

Anyone who gets that wasted on a course shouldn't be out there, 100% agree.  With that said it's not a good reason to not allow pot on the golf course in states where it's legal which is a huge swath of the country.

I don't partake on the course so my opinion is not self-serving, but there are way more guys who get wasted on the course with alcohol, and that's not going anywhere.

That's not just a problem with weed though. I've played with guys who drank until they were stumbling after 10 holes. Not that both aren't a problem, they definitely are. Just that it's not a problem unique to the rolled green.

In general, I wouldn't have an issue with it. When I was in high school there were guys who'd smoke on the course, it was illegal in the state back then. I've known guys who'd roll one while rock climbing which is definitely a more dangerous activity. If the community has no problem with cigars and cigarettes, what's the problem with someone rolling a J?

Neither alcohol nor marijuana are ok when operating machinery. Drink or toke while working in a factory and you’ll be looking for another job when, not if, you’re caught. And cigars and cigarettes have been legal for the entire time this country has existed. You can’t get intoxicated/high on either of them. They won’t cause impairment in cognitive function.

That’s why!

What about booze tho?

Operating a vehicle after drinking is also not allowed.

And I offer no disagreement to that. However, if we say that both weed and alcohol cause impairment, then why is alcohol near-universally viewed as OK on the course but weed is bad and should be banned?

Courses actually sell alcohol, and dang near encourage players to get drunk. So why do people get so scared about someone getting baked?

I play my sports sober….but I’ll choose playing with someone who’s toked up every day and twice on Sunday versus someone who’s drunk. Weed never lowered someone’s inhibitions and made him get loud, argumentative, or want to fight.

I guess my Grateful Dead putter cover will give me away a little bit but I totally get the actual smoke part. People that don't like smelling pot smoke will also be bothered by cigarette and cigar smoking. There are so many ways to imbibe now that don't include smoking that its easy to not annoy others.

On the other hand, all the Judge Judy nonsense in this thread is equally annoying. I don't have any large hole in my golfing soul that only cannabis can fill. Most of the time its just for fun and no different than a beer at the turn.

My man. I have no less than four Dead headcovers on my bag.

Believe me, I’ve tried, but I just can’t play golf at all under the influence of anything, so I save that for the 19th hole.

Agree.  I also think the view on substances is generational.  People 50yrs and older grew up with targeted ad campaigns saying how cannabis made you crazy, lazy and potentially a serial killer hahaha.  Of course, in this day and age, we all know who was behind those campaigns, as it has been exposed, but the residue is still present.

Overall, for me it goes back to enjoy whatever you'd like on the course as long as you keep pace of play and don't affect anyone else on the course.  Most importantly, don't become impaired to the point where you can't legally drive your car home at the end of the round.

you obviously never worked in a factory.  I've spent nearly 30 yrs in a Big 3 auto plant and numerous other factory's & carpentry jobs.  alcohol and weed are quite common. now people do lose their jobs but not as frequent as you would think.  you sound so certain on your assessments, that's a dangerous thing throwing a blanket over everything.

As a retired Police Officer I 100% agree. Alcohol is a BIG problem and it gets ignored. When was the last time a video was posted with people baked fighting vs alcohol? Never.
