MEMBER REVIEWS: Mitsubishi Golf Diamana WB Testing | See What Members Are Saying!

Great reviews so far testers - had an old Diamana in one of my first drivers and loved the feel. Haven’t had a chance to come back to one but this thread has convinced me to pick up one and test myself (stiff in 63).  Absolutely love the matte black look!

Just got done with my “self fit” and the results were interesting and not quite what I had anticipated. To be clear, when i say self fit, Im just playing with headweight and loft settings to get a desired feel and eyeball for launch and spin window. Im usually pretty good at finding the right window without a LM.

A little context on current setup before I get into the Diamana:

My current gamer setup is quite unique and I really just accidentally stumbled on it. Standard LTDx head, stock 10g weight, 195g head weight. 331g total static weight. The motore x f1 plays at 45.25” midsize grip and c8 swing weight. Thats very light. Ive almost always played in the D1-D4 range. 45.25” is quite short for me as well as Im 6’4” and everything except driver and 3 wood plays longer than standard. I ordered some weights for the head to bring up swingweight but everytime I went up in swingweight I would just start spraying the ball everywhere. It is the weirdest thing. In the config listed above, it has been very solid for 2 years now, so I have just rolled with it.

On to the self fit:

The Diamana 53tx is playing at 45.5”, 1/4” longer than gamer. I did this with swing weight in mind, as i moved down a weight class. First setup was stock loft (9*) with stock 10g weight. 325g static weight, C7 SW. Feels light, but very stable. Almost to the point of lacking feel. Not overly kicky anyways. Nice and firm in the handle. Feels like the kick is somewhere between the tip and mid portion. Comparing the feel, best comparison I can give is like a lighter slightly softer Ventus black.

Immediately, noticed right away a significantly higher ball flight.  I was hitting into a 15 mph head wind, but it was still much higher than Im used to. If I had to guess it was launching at 15* or so. Ball flight was a touch spinny, not too bad that they were crazy risers, but for being into the wind, I was ok with just a slight rise in the ball. I knew immediately I needed to loft down. The dispersion however, was crazy good. Like eye opening good. For hitting into the wind, I think I had 1 ball curve more than 20 yards all session. I hit a few pushes but even those were minimal and just dead straight.

Strike dispersion on the face was good, not “elite”, but i was surprised at the lack of curve I was getting for some of the strikes. My typical miss is a low on the face get club stuck behind me and hit this low push squeeze cut. Sometimes it can get off the planet bad. I felt a few swings were i felt as if I got in front of the club but somehow this this thing managed it great.

I then went to a 16g headweight (+6), this puts static weight right inline with gamer setup, and around a D0 SW. This brought the shaft alive in the feel area. It was perfect, at least for what I prefer. The weight and balance was better and the shaft felt like it was loading properly now, but still being stable. The results as far as ball flight in dispersion, were really no different though. I then started to loft down in effort to get launch and spin down. Went all the way down to 7.5*, but honestly it didn't really seem to help much.

Now I didn't have my gamer shaft on hand so maybe it was just me on this particular day, and Ill be interested to see the comparison on the Launch monitor when I test later on. Im a little worried that with this current head/shaft combo, I may not be able to get it down enough, but If i do, the dispersion gains alone, would be massive and going straight in the bag.

@Red4282 do you think a heavier WB would bring spin down for you?

Yes, but mainly due to increased stiffness. I think im just getting too much dynamic loft. Just from my eyes, it feels like i need to bring it down about 2 degrees and 300-400 revs to be in my preferred window. Ill put it on a monitor later this week and perhaps even try it in an LS head.

I bet it would be a monster in a LS head!  Especially with the increased dispersion.

Got to the range today.  Swing was decent, but still working through a few things.  I took my Swing Caddie sc200 for some idea of numbers.  Have to say the numbers were very similar to the HZRDUS Gen 4 shaft I was fitted for with a slightly different feel.  I expected a bigger difference between the two, but this is a perfect example why you can't always go by charts.  The WB has more of a one piece feel vs a distinct kick with the HZRDUS.  I did not see much curve with either.  The WB may have had a slightly higher launch but nothing very noticeable.  I went back and forth hitting a few balls with each.  I keep the settings the same for both.  Below are my last 2 with each shaft.

I intend to get it out on the course over the next 2 weeks.  Curious who it holds up under real play.  I will also get on a launch monitor for some more detailed numbers.   So far pleasantly surprised.

Unfortunately missed out on this opportunity again (just like how I missed out on the Vanquish last year)

Regardless, I didn't some data analysis on people's preference when it comes down to driver shafts. 240 samples from the signup. Enjoy!

After 4 rounds it has performed great. I do think it’s a little on the spinny side. Almost feels like a combo of white launch with blue spin. I don’t have any launch monitor data to back that up yet just the fact that I didn’t get any roll out. Ball is always close to my divot. Hopefully, I can get on the launch monitor in a few days.

Another range session today, with similar results.  Have to say I'm starting to like the feel of the WB over the HZRDUS Gen 4.  Just feels more one piece or solid.  Heading to the Women's US Open this weekend, but plan to get it on the course Mon-Wed next week.  Should have a better idea on it then.  After that I will get on a launch monitor.  So far it is solid.  Diamana needs to get this in manufacture's fitting bags.

Got out today and did the head to head with trackman. Results werent too crazy and actually happy to see the range session the other day must have either been my eyes or my swing that day. I dont trust these spin numbers though (trackman indoors)

First after a small warmup, the gamer setup:

IMG_6217.jpeg.c3a2c67f16209ac31ff67a92d22f2e0d.jpeg

(Also, the right and left dispersion is in feet not yards, lol)

Its pretty much in line with what I typically see on the course. Omitted a weird ball that was struck high on face but somehow showed crazy high spin which it wasnt.

Averages for gamer:

IMG_6219.jpeg.0c1baeb3dd79f1eb3e0a7f3fad01b17d.jpeg

And dispersion:

IMG_6218.jpeg.1cae6bb8bef7467bbee9eabc8182bd00.jpeg

Put in the Diamana wb, 9* loft, standard 10g weight. Took like 5 swings and abandoned it. Just didnt like the feel. ClubSpeed was down, strike was erratic. Put the heavier 16g weight in and off we went.

First little set with this setup:

IMG_6220.jpeg.5b7ccc79095f029ad18de55a43143f49.jpeg

So launch was actually a touch higher, speeds, distances, were up, however dispersion seemed a bit worse, mainly due to some slightly bigger misses:

IMG_6222.jpeg.1135c2d99546f0eaf3b775576ed39bdf.jpeg

After looking at the data, I made a small swing changed which ironed out alot of things. Face to path was much more consistent and a little better angle of attack gave me much better launch conditions, and had a this really great set:

IMG_6221.jpeg.f1c9f4295b3dbf7107a41afa3cc6a346.jpeg

Aside from one bad mishit, and one swing where i left the face open, I was very pleased with the results.

Averages:

IMG_6225.jpeg.4208d8cf5a1ace11521856cdfce80f2c.jpeg

Launch is up a full degree, same uptick in CHS and BS, Carry total up 8 yards now. Dispersion MUCH better;

IMG_6226.jpeg.57f0bed4a80fe41071a623fefb45c271.jpeg

So like any good tester would do, put the gamer back in, of course to see how this swing adjustment would affect it. Hit 5 balls. Interestingly the speeds did not drop, if anything they increased a little more…(🤷‍♂️). However the dispersion got worse significantly. I will see, the gamer setup just seems like “work” to swing. The Diamana WB just feels like its helping me not work so hard, if that makes any sense.

I really not sure what to take away from this comparison. Saw speed gains, then didnt. Dispersion with both seemed hit or miss. I do enjoy the feel, and balance of the Diamana WB more for sure. Im playing my first round with it tomorrow, barring rain. Hope to have some more insight after that.

IMG_6223.jpeg

Great range session!  I agree 100% that you don’t have to “work” to hit the WB well. I always have to be working to hit my gamer well.

Well shot my best round in 20 years today… however, the shaft had little to do with it. It may well just be my lucky charm and will stay in because of that!  Overall, my driving was a mixed bag, some bombs and a few misses. My misses didnt cost me though, so maybe it mitigated the big miss. Im definitely launching it a bit higher but no spin issues, nice and flat. I did hit one drive on a hole about 15 yards further than Ive ever been on maybe 25 rounds on this course.

I finally got the shaft out on the course yesterday.  I definitely didn't have my a game, so not sure if it was the swing or not.  Only hit 1 fairway.  My miss on the front 9 was high right.  Back 9 I tried to make an adjustment and then was missing left.  Just could not get in sync.  Playing partners even commented that is was not my normal ball flight.  Not giving up on it yet.  Plan to get to the range again tomorrow and play 9 in the evening.  It was really disappointing, because I truly thought after the past 2 range sessions the WB and HZRDUS would be very similar.  More to come.............

After a couple of weeks of A/B'ing my normal shaft vs WB, I'm sticking WB in the bag for the upcoming weeks.

I got extremely similar numbers with WB vs my current shaft, which makes sense as they are the same weight and length.  The WB has a less pronounced mid kick and more right bias compared to what I have been used to, which after a couple of weeks of some left tee balls I am welcoming.

WB continues to feel very solid and beefy (especially in the middle) while having some feeling of loading.  IMO, WB has more feel than Ventus Black/HZRDUS Black, and sits below these "rebar" profiles.

Logged another round today, and struggled with the driver. The push cut was back, but i know it has nothing to do with this shaft. Went to the range after the round, first time Ive done that in a long time and think I figured out some stuff, but we will see. The shaft feels great though. For a shaft thats in the 50 gram family, it sure is stable. Very impressed by that.

I was able to get to the simulator today (Thanks to the people at Carroll Valley).  They have the GC2 or GC3.  Doesn't have all the bells a whistles as the GC Quad or Trackman, but it was still very helpful.  I did go through a good warm up working more on irons and alignment to start.  Today my miss with the WB was more left than  the other day on the course, which could easily be alignment.  Three things jumped out at me from the numbers.  First was ball speed which was 5 mph faster with my gamer.  My guess is comfort in feel (little upset that it was down about 10 mph from Trackman a few months ago).  Next was launch, which was 2.5* higher with the WB.  That said, neither launch numbers were bad.  Lastly was dispersion, which was tight with my gamer.  So much with shafts come down to feel and I seem to do better with shafts softer in the handle and stiffer in the tip section.  I find it funny others have referenced how boardy the HZRDUS shaft is, but smooth with the WB.  So far I'm feeling the opposite.  My guess is the difference in profile (handle and tip especially).  I would not call the WB boardy, but does feel more one piece with little kick feeling.  I will mess around with a few settings and get the WB back out on the course to see if I can get more out of it.  Still more to come.........

Interesting results, the launch and spin of the WB is much more ideal, but strange the bs was down, and a little more left miss. It definitely tells me you’re getting a little more deflection with the WB. Wondering if a click or two down on loft settings could be a solution..

Kind of what I'm thinking.  Isn't like it is far off.  I'm sorry a little LM time you could make both ideal.

Hi everyone - I just wanted to come back in here with a little update:

I have been going through a move to a new house the past few weeks and haven't had time to do on course testing so it's been all range time - which is normally twice a week. I currently have 3 shafts in the bag which are my "Gamer" the Ventus TR Blue 6s, the WB 63s, and now also the Ventus TR Black 6s. I can honestly say that through the handle/mid on the WB and TR Black, it's pretty difficult for me to tell a difference between the two. Although through impact, I really do love the feel of the Ventus (could just be what i'm used to now). I'm not saying that the WB is bad in any way, because it's not, just maybe less on the comfortable side for me and I would really have to put in some reps to get used to it. Another point, the lengths on all of these shafts do vary a little bit with the TR Blue at 44", the WB at 43.75", and the TR Black at 44.25". Maybe it's just me, but I really love the 44.25" and am finding that my setup and face dispersion have been really good with this length. That being said, the WB being a little shorter makes me feel like I can get on top of it a little more and really torque it when I need to, but I do wish it was the exact same length as my TR Black. I tend to get in my head with specs and making sure the bag is setup pretty perfect. My setup changes ever so slightly with each shaft and I have to play with ball position a little to get my start lines going from one to another. Hoping to get out this weekend and run a quick 18 with the WB on a 9 and the TR Black on a 9.

I think all of this being said, trying the WB so far has made me realize that the Blue TR is NOT the one. I have to hold myself back to swing that shaft and that's not something I absolutely love from a timing or dispersion standpoint. WB or TR Black will be my "battle for a slot in the bag" choices for this "season". Should have another update here semi-soon!

You guys are spot-on about the WB not having that boardy feeling compared to its low/low peers. I love that I don't feel like I have to go after it to load it up properly, but there's plenty of shaft when you do want to go after it.

Well I just had a fairly in depth range session really trying to figure out something with the driver. I probably hit 60 balls with the driver, the first 40 or so with the Diamana WB with various setups and settings. While my results werent bad, I cant sit here and tell you it’s any better than what Id come to expect from my gamer or other various shafts Ive used in the past. I just think maybe I don't get along with this profile as well, reminds me very much of my time with ventus black. Feels great, stable, linear, but just inconsistent with my timing.

I stuck the gamer back in for last twenty balls, and the softer heavier feel just seems to suit my swing better. While Im living around 112chs, and currently top out at 115, my swing is pretty tempo’d, and with a smooth transition. Id be curious to see what results would be  if I went up to like a 6s,  or even the new blueboard would probably be the better fit. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fantastic shaft, and if you like ventus black or any of the other linear, very stable feeling shafts, definitely give this a try. The 53tx is definitely no slouch either, it held up to everything I could put into it.

Im not going to give up on it just yet, still going to give it some time, and see maybe if I can adjust into it.

I’m going to jot some thoughts regarding my time with the WB. I am a dedicated whiteboard profile player and have tested this shaft on the course and range against my current gamers PD 60tx tipped 1” and D+ Ltd 70tx tipped 1”. For reference I purchased and have been playing the WB at 70tx and tipped .5”. I am +2 handicap and play driver at 44.5” swinging around 120 on course. *I have tried literally every other brand/profile/weight and nothing can beat out the good ol MCA for me*

To me, the WB feels much firmer in the handle and mid than the other 2 shafts listed above. I believe the WB is maybe 1-2 mph faster than the D+. Possibly due to weight, possibly due to less tipping, possibly due to softer tip profile. I don’t believe I strike the WB quite as well on course as the others due to the fact that I tend to prefer the feel and time soft handle, firm mid/tip shafts better. I do feel that my dispersion is a bit better with the WB although I would guess my overall distance is shorter due to a less consistent strike. My miss with WB is heel and low on the face and I tend to A. Strike the PD and D+ better and B. Miss slightly high toe.

The WB seems to have a more left bias compared to the other 2 shafts. The left is never a hard, out of play miss but a tight draw. The other 2 probably bias further right but I do feel like I miss hard left more often. This is likely due to my delivery and miss pattern on the face mentioned above.

This may be obvious, the differences in these shafts are much much smaller than the differences I bring to the course every week. Which shaft is in my bag for my next qualifier? WB based on the fact that I believe dispersion is most important for my game and spinny cuts don’t rack up penalty shots as quickly as toe hooks. Hopefully I can begin striking it a bit more consistent and get the best of both worlds going forward. Launch monitor data is irrelevant comparing shafts this close in spec IMO and I feel on-course experience is much more relevant

Finally able to get some launch monitor data. Been nursing an Achilles injury and bad weather. Certainly not best best range session. Really been struggling with consistency with my driver. I’ve never been a “Fairway Fred” but can scramble well. Anyway here are the numbers. I had to write them down on paper because I’m technologically challenged lol and can’t get the data from screen to screen. Just a reminder my gamer shaft is the Ping Tour Black 2.0 65x and plays 45 3/4” long. For whatever reason the Whiteboard was sent 3/4 of an inch short and it’s a 63x and plays 45” so keep that in mind when reading the data. Again I spraying the driver today. The red dots are the Ping Tour 2.0 and the purple dots are the Whiteboard. Used the Garmin R10 today. Hoping to be able to use the clubs Trackman soon.  Sorry I didn’t pass penmanship class in elementary school.IMG_6017.jpeg.8e826a04b2594cd4b93515b3207162a6.jpegIMG_6018.jpeg.234463cbc2849167bbea63469edc9dbd.jpeg

Playing around with the settings on my G430lst on the range before my tournament today I moved to the -1 Flat setting and that seemed to really dial in the dispersion.  Ping drivers have always seemed like they sit upright at standard so I thought I’d give it a try and it worked really well. Best I’ve hit it yet. Really enjoying this shaft!!!

Continuing messing with driver settings but I think I've used the WB enough to make a solid opinion.  No question people need to be fitted.  Not only does this give you the best performance but also shows which profiles work best with your swing and feel.  That said the Diamana WB is very much in line with what one would expect from the legendary WB profile.  I am very much a Tensei White or HZRDUS Black player.  Fitting and performance reinforce this.  That said the WB is an awesome option for players looking for a low low shaft, but prefer a stiffer handle profile.  I am very much a softer handle stiff tip player.  This is where the WB impressed me most.  I don't consider the tip to be softer.  It does an awesome job maintaining a smooth or softer feel while keeping the spin down.  My biggest issue was feel in the handle and this is very much a personal preference.  I have always loved Mitsubishi shafts.  I just seem to do better with the Tensei line.  Haven't given up on it yet but where we are today.  I couple more updates to come.......
