I guess I was hoping for some magic, but it's just not there (Yes, I know it's not the putters fault). I bought a 38" 71 lie counterbalance Mezz Max and a 35" 69 standard build Mezz Max. Both with Accra shafts. I've used them both for around 10 rounds or so each. I'm having a terribly difficult time with aim, and distance control. Now, I'm definitely not the worlds greatest putter by any stretch of the imagination, hence the experiments. But, I'm definitely putting worse than I was before. Three putts are a regular thing, and four putts happen a couple times a round. Frustrating to say the least. Thinking of picking up a See More to see if it can help with some aim/start line issues. At this point I'm kind of just grasping at straws. Keep an eye on the classifieds. Might be a couple of putters popping up on there soon 😂😂

Don't feel bad, I had immense trouble aiming the Mezz.  I was good inside of 6 feet and my lag putting actually was fine, but I could not aim the mid rangers at all.

The DF3 being larger and having a deeper reference point has helped tremendously, and I am still good with the shorties.  The DF3 is solid no matter where you hit it and I have had some issues with LAG putting, but I am only 4 rounds in with it so far.

Last year I started with a Link1 (best blade I ever used by far) then switched to a Makefield VS.  Had a lot of success and it’s been in the bag since last spring (which is long for me).  I will give LAB another go with getting fit for a Mezz or DF3 I think.  If in the fitting session it outperforms whatever current putter I’m using there is no reason not to buy one for myself.

I thought of doing this, because I've always used a pistol grip. I was told by LAB directly in an email, that if I change the grip the balance will be screwed up and I'd have to send it in to have it rebalanced. It'd be $100 and who knows how long I wouldn't have the putter. Their lead times are pretty crazy, so I didn't go through with it.

They used to say this, then turned around (about the time the pistol grip became available) and said something to the effect of, 'If you get close enough to the weight, you'll be fine. It'd be better if you sent it back to us, but if you don't...'

So, I took the swing weight of the putter, then removed the 3° press that was too big for my M cadet-sized fingers, added lead tape to the shaft to try and match the difference in stated grip weight, installed the 2° pistol over it, and it's good to go.

Probably not as balanced as if they did it, but still rolls them straight.  Moral of the story, try the grips in something like PGASS before you order one from LAB.

To see how much equipment really matters, watch the Vid of BDC playing a kids Walmart set on a full size course.  (14 degree driver, 7 iron, wedge putter,  All sized for a 9 or 10 year-old.

Gee, you're telling us we're not touring golf professionals, with golf pros' knowledge of their body, swing, and ability to adapt their strike to different equipment.  How shocking to learn.  Ironic you cite that guy as an example of the sticks not mattering, considering what a neurotic fussbudget he is about his equipment.

I've watched a co-worker take people's money by betting he could tee off with a bullseye putter 200 yds.  Which he proceeded to do.  He still uses a driver usually though...

What if we've data (admittedly small sample size) that shows we do better with X vs Y piece of equipment?  Is it OK if we switch?

I'm all about anything that makes this game easier, and if it's stupid but it works, it's not stupid.

As he says with his G430 Max driver 😆 (please note I do not agree with this sentiment however it is funny you believe it when it comes to a specific putter but not other clubs)...

Not to attack that poster, but merely to point out that feel is very individual.  I have the opposite issue as that poster with respect to MOI and feel.  I don't notice the large MOI of the DF 2.1 at all, where the G425 Max (I've not tried the G430 driver) felt obnoxiously like trying to swing a dumbbell at the end of the shaft.  For me, replacing that Mongo rear weight with a smaller one, then adding back some of the weight to the sole just behind the face, helped get rid of that feel.  (As well as drastically cutting spin, and tbf, making the head less forgiving.)

Whatever, it works and he's mostly a good dog now.  (The headcover is of my sister's equally obnoxious Chocolate Lab.  Field line, evidently---this is his third home---and he just. Does. Not. Stop.  Neither do well hit drives, now.)

Agree 100% that it is individual.

That said, bigger putters, with longer shafts, and thicker grips must remove the player from the immediate sensation of striking a small ball.

With a driver, we are generally happy to hit a ball over 200 meters, with an acceptable dispersion of 20 meters right or left.

With a putt, success is measured in centimetres, and sometimes millimeters. That’s why feel is so important in a putter.

Interesting comments on this thread. Can only speak of my own experiences. Got a stock df2.1 based on remote video fitting with stock grip. Very happy but on cored sanded greens when I had to hit the putt hard I lost some confidence. Went for a putting lesson with Capto and HackMotion and Puttlab which was fantastic. This resulted in changing to a double overlap grip and tempo change but still struggled with 35+ foot putts. Changing the putter grip to lab’s pistol solved that issue.

Based on the putting lesson’s detailed capture and analysis, showing my putter when measured was absolutely bang on stated length and lie angle and my swings dynamic lie was 0.5 degrees toe up I have just received my new custom df3 with pistol grip - I’ll find out tomorrow what ‘nemo’ is like on long putts but based on results indoors it’s a keeper. Tried the Seemore and liked that too btw. The finish and build quality of this df3 is amazing,IMG_1725.jpeg.41403bc7fe1a6dd700b522e0dca7b905.jpeg

I can see that, but for many things that are very precise (writing your signature, steering to an apex, breaking a shot when the front post is wobbling right at the bottom of the bullseye):  things work better when the feel is consistent, but I'm not consciously thinking about it how it feels.  My body knows what it's doing if my brain will only get the F out of the way.

It feels right, but not like it's checking things off a checklist.  I realize a lot of this is going to be individual.  I want to be lined up correctly, look at the target, know (from putting green practice pre-round) how far that distance is, rock the shoulders and that’s it.  I don’t want to feel more than that.

Fred Couples is my spirit animal on how the unconscious should take over for actually performing the swing/stroke I decided I needed during my preparation and routine.

Just had my first session with the df3 - much more feel than my stock df2.1 and very happy especially inside 10 feet on quick green with dew on the shaded parts. Every putt missed was a tap in mostly from my right aim bias that creeps in if my tempo is too slow/tentative. The 90 minutes practice putting session was huge fun.

@Tats46 Isn't the stock DF 2.1 lie 69 degrees (not 71)?

I bought my df2.1 from arrow golf in Australia and they do stock df2.1 in multiple length and lie angles. Maybe they order in standard shaft and grip in different lengths and lies and have them “in stock”.

Bought the df3 direct from lab in the us.

I thought I would join this thread. I now have a little over 20 maybe 25 rounds of golf with my lab DF 2.1. I was fit with the online video tool. It turned out I fit into the stock 33 inch 69° angle.

I have been very conflicted about my opinions on this putte

On the one hand, I've had some pets that I've made that I think with another putter, I may not have. Other hand I have more pets this year than I did all of last season I find my distance control beyond 30 feet sometimes is perfect or other times depending on if it's upper downhill I can run it four or 5 feet short or long.

I also seem to struggle with these 3 to 5 foot length puts. I think something about the design with the prescription and the forward shaft, lean and onset and me being right eye dominant seems to skew where I think I am aimed. I have been using an a mark on my golf ball in an attempt to square my face up to that line. If I can get that part going, I think that's when I will see my scores really improve right now for the season. There is zero overall improvement in my pets around. I am making more one pots, but I'm also making more three pots and the net balance , zero. However, it is very frustrating to miss some four footers as opposed to not making a 15 footer.

If anybody has any ideas on how I could make sure I am aligning properly. That would be a big help. For what it's worth I think I tend to miss more to the right.

I can’t give advice, but can share my before and after Capto stats - the difference is not insignificant.

The after is here

IMG_1738.jpeg

And here is the before…the right miss very evident based on face angle

IMG_1737.jpeg.ae10677e7577318baa93c051dbec6a66.jpeg

My fix was changing to a double overlap grip, adding some ulnar deviation, increasing tempo to 92bpm, keeping putter shaft on plane. My right miss creeps back in if I let my tempo slow down. I totally recommend a putting lesson with someone that knows what they’re doing and has the technology to record all data points.

54 holes with a SeeMore Si3 that I grabbed off eBay, which looks like it was basically brand new. Very happy with the deal I got on it. Thing is in mint condition. Putts per round: 32, 29, 31. Anyone looking for Mezz Max putters, I'll be putting mine on BST😂

I have a SeeMore M6 which is their most symmetrical model so it has to be the most balanced as well. Barely any MOI but dang this thing is so easy to aim and set up.

No doubt. I obviously had serious issues with setting the face square and alignment, because I'm near the hole regularly now. Speed is obviously always going to be paramount, but I feel as though if I have a bad miss now, it's because of a poor read.

How is the Seemore working out?

Love it!! So far, of course😂It's definitely shown me that I thought I had the putter head square to my line, but I definitely didn't. I'm rolling putts on my intended line, possibly for the first time in my life. Copied from post above⬇️⬇️
