A fond farewell to Bill Walton

My fellow Bruin 🐻 and a great man has passed at age 71. Bill was a colorful personality that was very down to earth and called things like he saw ‘em. “I learned from yesterday, I dream about tomorrow, but I try to make today my masterpiece”. Amen 🙏🏼 He will most definitely be missed, and remembered.

An all time great on the court, a wonderful broadcaster, and certainly a unique spirit. Sad to hear of his passing, one of the people in the sporting world I truly admired. As my dad put it, it feels like all our heroes are dying… Rest easy Bill!

One of the best passing big men of all time. When he was healthy in 86 I believe that Celtic team was the best ever. What a player to have coming off your bench. 
 

I never really cared for his as a broadcaster because he rambled so much and often failed to mention anything on the court for several minutes at a time. But that’s just a personal preference on my part. 
 

Had he been sick, seems like he was doing a lot of games just this past season.

From what I read it said he had been battling cancer, but I don’t remember that being discussed much if at all. Wouldn’t surprise me given his nature if he kept that quiet.

He did everything but strip Larry Kenon of his jock strap in the 73 National Championship game against Memphis State. Never got called for a foul. Kenon touched Walton and the whistle went off. 

 

Remember it well.

I ran into him at a Padres game many moons ago. I reached up to high five him. Hit him right in the middle of his chest. Tall dude.
