I voted for Jordan.  At his peak, he was the best putter from 15-25 ft and was much better iron player. He worked so hard on his driver that his putting suffered. That pressure on his iron game and it went south. His putting has never returned to anything close to 2015 and his approach numbers are mediocre.  He looked good on Saturday at the John Deere, but Sunday was the same old putting issues.  He hasn't been the same since that meltdown at the 12th at Augusta when he handed the tournament to Danny Willett.

Young Jordan Spieth. I just wonder if he got too technical with that backswing.
He had it, then he didn’t. I’m not sure where it started, but that crazy rehearsal in his backswing was a clue.
Putting, He used to be stone cold from 10-15 ft.
I see no Major in his future, and I certainly don’t see him and JT in the Ryder Cup next year.
it’s a cruel game.

The biggest career collapse I’ve ever seen is David Duval.  At one point he overtook Tiger woods at #1 in the world in the middle of tigers prime.  Then, he faded quickly into oblivion

Tiger was not in his prime lol - No one came close to Tiger in his prime. Duval was No 1 in March 1999 to June 1999. The Tiger run started at the PGA Championship Aug 1999 when he beat Sergio and no one came close until he had the swing change period from 2003 to 2004 - where Singh got to number 1 in 2004.

I've been the most saddened by Jason Day falling off - but not sure if you can call it disappointing given it was injury driven. Really hope he can bounce back to a bit of relevance now with this new swing.

So he had exactly when Duval was #1 but @Lamb’s point is valid.

Duval’s season ending rankings

1999 2nd

2000 3rd

2001 3rd

2002 15th

2003 242nd

2004 527th

That's a big cliff he fell off of.

Surprised to see Duval's ranking at the end of 2001 be so low since he won the Open that year.

You’re right…skipped a year…or two.  Fixed now.  That’ll teach me to copy paste instead!🤣

David Duval was incredible back in the day.  But then, as mentioned in other posts, something mysterious happened to him.  Like he just... you know... wigged out mentally or something.  So sad.

Definitely Spieth. That two year stretch was insane. He looked like he was gonna win several Masters as well... absolutely owned that track.

Yep.  I really wanted to see him be the next Tiger Woods.  My interest in watching TV golf pretty much died when Spieth's hot streak ended.  There hasn't been a player since who has had me interested in watching week to week.

I don't think it was mysterious.  I remember that it was a perfect storm.

1.  Injuries

2. Split with his girlfriend

3. Contract issues with a major sponsor

Sucks, since he was a local guy for me at least.

For me Duval.  There was a time when it felt like it would be a Tiger and Duval rivalry for years.  I did read somewhere that when he won the Open he got a kind of empty feeling. It had been his goal and when he achieved it he didn’t get the feeling that he expected it.   It was more “is that it then?”.

The other one that always surprises me when I think about it is Faldo.  Year after winning a green jacket he was putting one on Tiger and then gone!

Isn't that the very argument Tiger "haters" use to diminish Tiger's accomplishments ? :classic_blink:
