Driving iron shaft

2 iron shaft recommendations. 101mph club speed and 150 ball speed with my current 2 iron. Play the Ventus black HB, just a touch bit stout and would like something that is more forgiving.

Accra TZ5 105 DI M5 

Tour AD DI Hybrid 105X (might be a little soft for some but tipped correctly could work) - Finau uses one and he's no slouch in the speed department. Van Rooyen had 95X's in his bag for his 2 DI's

they do the S+ (Stiff+) flex in 85, 95, 105 i think. I have the KBS Proto 85X and Ventus Black 9TX in driving irons, the profiles of both feel similar with the KBS a touch softer in the 85X. I bet 95 S+ would be a good one to try if you like the weight of Ventus Black 9TX but want it softer.

The Accra TZ5 is an option as mentioned. Interestingly I found it comparable in driving iron but far from comparable to Ventus black in driver. 
Why not try Axiom and soft step it?

KBS hybrid proto as @PNWmentioned.  I have the 105X in my driving iron and it's on the stout side, but not as much as the Ventus Black HB.  Going half a flex down in the S+ would make loading easier.  IZ-95X HY is also another good option that will feel linear yet it's on the smoother side yet easy to load, IMO.

Sure that CHS is accurate? 1.5 smash on a 2i is pretty insane.

 

For shafts have you tried the same shaft as your iron set?

 

I went down the driving iron shaft rabbit hole a couple of years ago and never found a single graphite option that performed as well as my iron shafts (PX 6.5 rifles).

They have the whole range s, s+ and x. I actually just put a 105 S+ into my 3 iron bent to 17* and it’s a bomber. I love this thing. I’m about 120mph with my driver and it’s more than stiff enough to play, but gives good feel to it. This is what I’d go with.

I’ve been testing the Ventus vs Tour AD options and the GD feels better personally.

 

To get either to work, I had to fit both shafts with different grips and slightly different lengths to get the swing weight / feel correct.
 

Might be worth double checking between your driving iron and the rest of the bag as well

Have you tried the Project X U shaft to match your irons? Its not a premium option, usually can find it stock. Might match your iron set a bit better if you want to save some money.

awesome. I really like Proto Hybrid shaft as well. Currently have Mizuno 19* driving iron with Ventus Black 9TX and it's my favorite club, don't find the shaft overly boardy at all. But I also have another Srixon MKii utility 18* that I was testing with the Proto S+ and I find it very similar in profile but just a touch softer but still very stable. I should have off the Srixon months ago but I'm not sure I want to part ways with that Proto Hybrid yet.

IMO, where people make errors, they don't recognize how important the shaft profile is to their natural swing and tempo.   They focus on weight, club speed and ball speed, yet those don't always tell the truth, never have in my case.

 

I have a faster than normal tempo and transition, hitter style, which keeps me on the cusp of S & X.  People that have fluid swings like Els type tempo tend "NOT" to get along with shafts with very stiff handles, such as Ventus Black.  Very stiff handles fit my tempo.  Thus, I have a high bend Tensei AV Raw White Hybrid 90S shaft in one 2 iron and stout high bend Tensei AV White Am2, 90S in my other 2 iron.

Have you tried Ventus blue hb in 10x? 
If you want a little more feel in a slightly less demanding profile (that’s still very stable and does not want to go left or spin up) it seems like a natural option. At that weight, AD DI hybrid in 95x or 105x, maybe tipped a little more than the comparable Ventus, could work as others have mentioned

Tried the Ventus Blue. Didn't perform as good as the Black. In the KBS right now, I had the AD DI before and loved it.

So true, I love stout and stiff handles like yourself. That's why I was surprised I didn't get on with the Black HB.

I'm a big time driving iron guy, have been for a while. I carry a 2 iron and a 3 iron currently and I have similar numbers to you @tomdabomb. I spent the last 4-5 years experimenting with TONS of shaft options. I love the HZRDUS Black 105g but unfortunately you can't really find them anywhere anymore. My absolute #1 favorite that I landed on is the Tensei Pro White 100TX. I have it in both driving irons, as well as my driver (60TX). I just find that it has the perfect mix of feel, stability, and lower launch. I can't speak highly enough about the shaft honestly. With the driving irons, I just hit mid-flighted laser beams every single time. Great shaft.

 

For what it's worth, my 2 iron is the TaylorMade TP UDI (such an incredible club) and my 3 iron is the p790 (black), amazing as well.

Same here my man. I play a Mizuno Pro Fli-Hi 3i tweaked down to 17.5 degrees of loft. I play it with a Tensei Pro White 100TX as well. 

 

SS around 115-118 with driver, and I love the feel of the Pro White for the driving iron. Tried the AD-DI and Hzrdus Black hybrid shafts before in it and they never felt right for me.

This is a great discussion.  I’ve experimented with the Ventus black HB 10TX in my 2 iron and definitely felt it was too stout (I’m roughly 107mph-112mph driver swing).  I use a Ventus blue HB10X in my hybrid that I like but I seem to get the best results with the ole X100 TI shaft in my 3 iron as of right now.  Always looking for a lighter option that is just as stable.  I do want to try the Ventus Blue HB 10x in my 3 iron (or a 2 iron) to see how it works out.

I have a P790 UDI 2 iron w/ an X100 (straight in / no tipping / shaft length 1/2" longer than my 4 iron) and it gaps perfectly with my 3W (AiSmoke Triple Diamond) and 4 iron (2020 P7MC w/ X100).

for those with similar profile to OP, I would 2nd recommendations for those mentioned the TZ five.  Would also recommend the TZ six that feels a little more active in the tip and the Tensei 1K white hybrid.

 

I wound up putting Tensei 1K into Callaway apex UT 2 iron after most recent fitting with many of above mentioned shafts (ex KBS).  Have tz five in the fairway woods and RPG in the driver.  I liked the feel of the Ventus blue but tip too soft, like the numbers of the Ventus black but overlap of feel and numbers couldn't be beat vs the Accras.

Likewise, DI in mine, can hit it super high or super low at will, I prefer the versatility

It may be due to the Black HB being a hybrid profile shaft. 

 

From my experience, a Hybrid shaft in 2i head behaves a bit different from a normal iron shaft in 2i. 

Even though the new T200 17' 2i with Tensei AV Raw White Hybrid 90S shaft is stiff, and a high bend handle at 39.75", its mid and tip sections are different resulting in more dispersion than the 718 TMB 17' 2i with stiff and high bend handle Tensei AV White Am2, 90S, which is always straight.
