Not like he isn’t a millionaire but it’s kinda like a reminder more money can’t buy happiness.

never thought he'd go ... some bball guys are just east-coast guys, and i don't think he would change his style enough to fit with a pro team, esp one with james ... nil and transfer makes every bball coaching job much harder than it was, but he's got a system there that has resulted in back/back titles, with enough reason to assume a threepeat ...

Good decision on Hurley's part. The Lakers are a hot mess. Plus, the pro game is so different from college where they actually expect you to play defense and run a set offense that isn't just get the ball to the super star.

To me, The King is Arnie and not LeBron.

Would you want to deal with Lebron and all the baggage that comes along with that - including maybe being pressured to draft his kid? Nah.

This isnt college BB from 50 years ago - or heck even 10 years ago. Uconn can hit the transfer portal to reload every year and they can absolutely sweeten his contract...and my guess is that is next up.

Someone also pointed out, its not really clear his style would fit the pro game. You think this generation of pros wants to be screamed and yelled at all game by a maniac head coach running up and down the sidelines?

Given Hurley is likely due a pay increase from UCONN...reported 6 years and $50M, I would have turned down the Lakers too.  Not only is the NBA season more work (100+ games from October to June if you make it to the playoffs) but it's been shown that short periods of success including championships doesn't guarantee your job in the NBA.  I get it that most NBA coaching jobs are fully guaranteed even upon firing, but that doesn't mean you'll land another gig that is as good as what he's got now.  Back to back NCAA titles will go a long way in college so long as you aren't involved in a scandal.

The whole thing with LeBron and Bronny is going to be a mess.  If LeBron were 33 years old, had 3+1 years left on his deal, and Bronny was still in middle school, I think the job becomes more intriguing.

I would not be surprised at all if the Lakers suddenly fall off the map again like post Kobe and pre LeBron and don't recover anytime soon.  The Clippers are prime to become the premier destination for NBA stars wanting to live in LA with their new arena and an owner that has a net worth something like 100X larger than the Buss family.  Ballmer is kind of a whacky guy...but he's putting his money into the team and has done a really great job bringing the Clippers out of the Lakers shadow the last 10 years.

Also if Bronny was, you know, actually good. I just dont see it. His numbers arent good and I see nothing skillwise that points to him being a good NBA player. Absolute *stud* college players fail in the NBA. Bronny averaged 4.8 points over 25 games and he was a bad shooter. All I've read is trying to excuse it because of his serious heart condition? Ok, I guess.

And look, I'm the guy who theorized that Shohei wasnt going to be able to handle an MLB schedule because it was much longer than the Japanese BB schedule - so I know.

I haven't completely ruled out Bronny being a serviceable NBA player.  I certainly don't see him as a top prospect with All-Star or All-NBA type potential, but that's not the bar to get drafted in the 2nd round.  I see his ceiling as being a Pat Beverly (minus the antics) type player that has defensive value, somewhat reliable to knock down open shots, and has at least some play making ability to go along with high IQ to facilitate others.  For the record...his track record at USC is not evidence he's on his way there.

The real problem is if Bronny does prove to be worth some minutes as a developing rookie while LeBron is on the same team...because that means whoever the coach is will likely feel pressure to give him more minutes than he deserves.  Rich Paul is saying Bronny won't take a 2 way deal that means he plays in the G League...which I find strange because that's an option he should keep open to further develop his game versus riding the bench.

If Bronny is proven to be completely out of his element, where nobody (LeBron included) can argue he doesn't belong on the floor of an NBA game, that at least calms the circus that the coach wouldn't have to navigate.  But all reports are that Bronny had a solid combine performance against other draft prospects.  Why would anyone want that headache of having to deal with how a 2nd round pick is managed as something they'll have to answer questions on every night.

Kid averaged under 5 points a game against a very weak Pac 10 conference. I cant make any argument that he's ready for the NBA, there must be 100 kids better proven for the league. Couldn't play and couldn't shoot.

I think we'd both agree that if his name was Joe Blow and he didnt have a famous dad - we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

I agree his name has everything to do with the conversation.  Nobody would be talking about him if it were not for his dad.  That said, it does seem like he's a legitimate late 2nd round pick or someone who may get a look as an undrafted free agent in the G league.  His combine results and scrimmage performances seem to support that.  I get it that his performance at USC was mediocre at best, but there are other examples of players that have little to no impact in college that have talent to be serviceable NBA players.

And when it comes to this thread and the Laker's head coaching job, my point simply was that if Bronny wasn't in this draft, or simply was nowhere near good enough, a candidate may be more willing to take the job without the potential headache of dealing with LeBron and his son on the same team.  I don't know if JJ Redick would even want the job either given how "close" he supposedly is with LeBron in his recent podcast work.  Hard to be a first time head coach when you know you won't even ben the coach so long as LeBron is there.  I guess the money would be nice.  More reason I think the Lakers will be a dumpster fire for the next 10 years minimum.  AD is going to want to be traded before his contract is up.
