Bell V 450 - Broomstick report

TLDR:- Great broomstick at a great price - ideal first broomstick for long putter curious like me.

Just got back home after a trip to the US where I picked up the Bell V i'd ordered. I'd have ordered the LAB DF3 but it wasn't available then... and stumbling upon Bell putters i realised i'd found a great value option to try a broomstick out at $235 delivered.

 

Played 6 rounds & am a broomstick convert - have always struggled with putting and tried armlock and all sorts, so this was the final fling on a style i'd never tried or just accept being a lousy putter for life.

 

I'd watched the LAB golf youtube clip on the different styles/methods to try out - and had tried out with fairway woods and hybrids to get a feel for length of putter - mine is 43"... and i suspect 42" might be even better ( i have used a regular putter at 32" before, and i'm 6ft tall just fyi).

Comes with the split Winn grip - which to me seems a tad skinny. I've order a Jumbomax 21" long round grip to see how that feels and if it is long enough. 

The head is 450gm which to me feels plenty heavy enough, and is well finished for the price.

 

Nice simple face milling and clean sole

 

One bonus is at address the shaft and top line give you a consistent Seemore RST style setup

 

The head cover is a zip-up thing, which is odd but preferable to velcro & due to the head shape can be replaced easily enough.

 

Definitely a great value option for those who'd like to give broomsticks a try, and i'm as sure as I can be that this style is the way for me.

 

I did see and try out the new LAB DF3 standard length at a PGA Superstore - I've a DF2.1 and the DF3 is a major improvement in apperance and feel.

there was also a broomstick Mezz Max there which I tried naturally.... I prefer a strong aligment perpendicular to the target so the DF putters are the ones for me for that reason, but swinging the LAB broomstick did feel nice - supporting the putter with your rigth hand/arm and it does feel good as it wants to track on that lie angle... so can certainly see a DF3 in the future, haha.

I can try out 42" on this Bell, and also a jumbomax grip and see if that works before splurging on the LAB (LAB does have the Jumbomax as an option, but it's the pistol shape for some reason... no doubt they'd be able to supply the round if asked nicely 😉   )

Thanks for this review! I’ve been trying to decide between picking up one of these putters or venturing into armlocks. Might just have to pick one of these up with how good it looks in these pictures

@coops I've been considering trying a broomstick putter for a while, but the $600+ price with Lab Golf makes it a tough purchase to experiment with. Today, I decided to order the Bell V 450. Are you still enjoying your putter?

Am at work on an oil rig for next 2 weeks... but the round Jumbomax grip is waiting for me at home. I'll be getting the Bell cut down to 42" and try that Jumbomax grip then - it's a definite huge improvement for me, even with such a short time of experience with this completely new to me style of putting.

 

The Bell V is a great option not just for price, but also can specify length unlike that more expensive Odyseey for example.

I opted for 41 inches. At 5'9", I want to be over the ball as much as possible. Getting an Odyssey and then having to cut it down seemed like a hassle. I'm surprised that Odyssey doesn't offer their broomstick in anything shorter than 45 inches, but I guess it's too much of a niche market.

I just ordered one at 42”. I’m a hair under 5’9” I’m hoping their sizing chart is on point? I don’t want to be too crouch over the ball at address.

Any thoughts from those of you using one of these?

You can use your fairway woods and hybrids to test out lengths.

With them held as upright as a broomstick, a tape measure useful to measure with the one that feels best for length.

 

I decided on 43" as 6ft tall who has used 32" regular putters before but generally 33". 43" is fine, but will be trying out 42" when i get back home.

Thanks. I saw someone in the sidesaddle thread say similar. I actually changed my order when I realized the 470 is a broomstick  putter and went with a 42” SS 410.

 I talked to the owner of the company and he was really nice. He said try it for 4 or 5 rounds and if I did like it I could return it no questions asked or exchange it for something different… can’t ask for better than that. 🤷‍♂️
