Bryson Playing Big Box Store Clubs

His youtube channel has a few clips where he plays with club set from WalMart, in one case a junior set of driver, 7i, PW and putter.  Plays them straight out of the box and scores better than almost all of us.  We should quit spending so much on clubs.

Nothing against Wal-Mart golf club sets but I think i'll stick with mine.

According to that logic everyone should drive a toyota corolla because it will get you where you need to go just as well as a mercedes or lambo or bmw or any other car you like.

There used to be a pro at our club who was really gifted. The guy would join you for a hole or two and he’d hit your driver, your buddy’s 8 iron and anybody’s putter to go no further than par. He’d do the same the next hole. 
 

Anyway these are just stories, golfer do benefit from using the appropriate weapons. Even Bryson IRL.

Seriously, a good player can play with just about anything.  Conversely, all the club fitting and lessons in the world isn’t going to make someone with no feel a good player.

What makes it better also is the box says are normal lofts lengths and grips . No jumbo grips , one length .

LOL.  I was being a bit sarcastic but forgot what font color that is here.  Of course we will keep buying gear, 'cause that's what we do.  I have 5 full set bags that I keep at home and in 2 other states so friends don't have to haul their clubs here when they visit, and I don't have to haul bags when I travel.  But if we devoted as much energy to training and practice we would probably all be better golfers.

 

I went to the range with older and newer 6i and 7i.  Nike VRS-X and Ping 430.  After 120 balls, distance was essentially equal.  Shot dispersion was slightly tighter with the newer clubs and they felt lighter.

 

As to Bryson, I have not been a fan.  But he seems to have matured and is more entertaining than most pros.

Obviously the average golfer couldn't play like he does with those clubs, but I do think it shows how unimportant it is to have brand new cutting edge clubs every couple years. Odds are if you  have a set of clubs that were made within the past 5-10 years and they fit your swing then you should be good.

I haven’t replaced a club in years, except for breakage or simply wearing out.  (Exception, I bought a set of i500s a few years back that were so awful, I discarded them almost immediately).

 

I have a back up old set that I keep at home, with some mismatched old hybrids and 5 wood that are totally different than my normal set.  I shoot roughly the same scores with either set of clubs.  My drivers don’t seem to last more than a couple years due to heavy use, but I’m not buying one until my current one dies.  Waste of money IMO.

Do you wear monochrome economy brand clothing? That's all you need. Do you only use off-brand substitute versions of products? That's all you need. I'd be more impressed if a midget used full length clubs. And shot even par round. Nothing impressive about a professional tour player using Walmart clubs.

I think you are overthinking my comment. Ten years down the road those three cars will be money pits. I’m certainly not advocating everyone drive a Corolla.

This is Bryson's whole model. 90% just ripping ideas from other content creators, 10% authentic Bryson. I'd respect him a lot more if those ratios were reversed.

Its not like one scores awfully lot worse if one takes 7 clubs from the old 80´s set and plays a round. I do that sometimes.  Leaving driver at home.

If this were the exact same story about Tiger, it would be 30 pages long about how awesome it is that he opens up his life and shares content with all of us. It is Bryson though so "he can only play 54 holes." The video shows that basically his talent is off the charts and the more he posts and interacts with fans, the more likeable he has become.

Then he’d throw them in the garbage and yell at some people and drive away.
