Titleist GT Driver - anyone fit into it?

TSR2 and TSR3 were so good.  I played the TSR2 quite a bit before settling onto Ping.  The TSR heads are sooooo good that I don't see much to gain from the GT heads to be honest.   I even got to play with a TSR2 as part of a rental set and oh my what an awesome club.

Well... Im not so sure anymore about GT3...

I went from a TSR3 in stiff to a GT3 in xstiff and I have a much harder time turning it over, especially when Im getting abit quick which results in a push fade. Went to a trackman range to see if ballspeed was up and its still up 3-5mph from TSR3 but I dont really care about that if I cant turn it over. If I do turn it over, Im borderline low on spin and losing carry.

I think I have to go on another fitting to hit them all side by side again...🤯

Might not be the clubhead.  Moving from a stiff to an xstiff shaft could be the reason.

Tested a demo GT3 at my club, stiff shaft, 9 degrees, which is what I play in the Sim2Max.  Not a fitting, just swinging the demo club.

The Titleist felt sooo different in my hands compared to the TM.  Not sure if I was imagining it, but the head felt much lighter, which I do not prefer in any of my clubs.  Hit it on the range with my TM.  Was longer but not as straight, and the ball flight was lower.  Took it out to the course and played nine holes, hitting both clubs off the tee box and comparing the result.  The Titleist was much longer.  On similar strikes I calculated an average distance gain of 14 yards, with a max of 20 yards on one hole when I smoked both of them.  But, side to side dispersion was wider for me with the GT3, which is my #1 requirement in a driver.  So I went and bought two leftover Sim2Max drivers with the VentusBlue shaft, just so I’ll have a go to club for years to come.

That said, the fact that the GT3 was so much longer is enough for me to go out to our next Titleist fitting day and see if there is a shaft/loft combination that works for me in that club.  Fourteen yards is a lot of real estate.

So far super happy with my GT2. I have made some small swing changes and it still keeps up. Had one of my best driving days the other day in a round and hit 10/14 fairways between the GT2 driver and my GT2 3 wood. Also had personal bests in total distance for both clubs. Still toying around with shafts but the GT2 has been amazing in terms of performance.

You are comparing a low spin head to a higher spin head.  Plus, not all stiff shafts are the same.  Sounds like you're current driver is not a good fit for you.  I'd 100% recommend a fitting.

I've been playing the TSi3 8deg since it came out. I was fitted into a Oban Kiyoshi HB TX shaft.  Decided to take a flyer and purchased the GT3 8deg and plug it into my current shaft. These numbers were typical for this indoor session. I couldn't get the spin down from 2,600. I also saw no significant ball speed gains compare to the TSi3. My peak height is too high so I messed with the settings but was averaging around 110 ft (more of a swing issue I suspect). The GT3 feels harsher than the TSi3 but not off-putting. I'm going to continue to mess around with it but will likely get fitted again.

I play (and used for this session) the left dash ProV1 which is low spin.

FWIW that height is fine. your apex with driver should be almost 1:1 with your CHS. As well, 2600 spin is a good spot to plant in.

My current driver is a great fit for me.  I’m crushing it, particularly the new one with the Ventus Blue shaft.  My old Sim2 had lost some of its pop, which seems to happen with all my TaylorMades.  With the new one  I’ve picked back up most of my lost yardage, and it’s still incredibly straight.  I’m still surprised about how straight the Sim2 is off the tee.

Titleist have just never felt good in my hands, so I knew the GT was a long shot.  I thought about trying a fitting, but I never change something that’s working in my bag, hence why I just bought two more Sim2’s, which should hold me for a couple more years.

Had a great fitting and have ended up in GT3 going up to 10 degree and keeping my current shaft.  Gt2 spun too much on mishits, none of the other shafts performed as well as current one, mostly because I could find the middle much more often with my current shaft. Seeing carry gains on bad shots of 15-20 yards as GT3 keeps spin up better than the TRS3 while out of the middle on good shots seeing more like 9-10 yard gains. Nothing to be sneezed at.

For those that were fit, is the quoted time accurate? Titleist fitter said a month and it’s a GT3 with a VF 6x. Seems like a long time to me.

That seems like it’s in the ballpark. I was fit for a GT2 on Aug 31st and received an email from Titleist yesterday, stating my club would ship out on Sep 23rd. During the fitting, the fitter said they were shipping out in about 3-4 weeks. The titleist fitter said the clubs are shipping out a little later than normal because it’s still close to the initial release date.

We had a Titleist fitting at our course on Monday.  I have gotten notices that 3 of the drivers shipped today.  All with the Temsei Black

I was fit yesterday in the GT3 and saw good improvement over TSi3. Mainly a drop in spin but some of that is probably the shaft for sure. Went from Tour Green TX 75 to Tensei 1K black TX 65. As I said in another thread, that combo just felt good all around. I could feel the club head better for some reason, even with the Tour Green popped into the GT3 but much more with 1K black.

I usually take a fitting and either research before buying or don’t buy at all, but bought the GT3 on the spot. I’m not sure if it was more the feel or the fact that I had the most optimized numbers I’ve ever had at a fitting.

one competive round and one 9 hole practise round and I’m seeing big gains with GT3, a bit surprising to be honest for just a head change. The sound is taking some getting used to as it’s making it hard to ‘feel’ strike. Have been finding balls 20/30 yards further than expected on what looked/felt like spinny ballooning  flights, but which turned out to be bombs. The fitting seems to have possibly underestimated the gains on good shots, I’m already going to have to adjust lines off some tees or go back to look at the 3 wood change also. Had a few 280/290  total drives which is a rarity for me this year.

Anyone have experience with getting a bad fit with Titleist and ending up with a Driver that is just too far off?  Will Titleist Customer Service help, or too bad and I'm the proud owner of a paperweight?

GT3 8*.  I've never had an 8* Driver but the Titleist fitter talked me into it and loft it up with A4 on hosel vs a 10* with the idea it helps take spin off.  Ok, I get the theory, but the reality on the course is my launch is too low.  I net gained some yards but it's from a ton of run out, I'm not sure if that's a game I want to play.  Why should I give up yards going to 3W whenever I need more carry?

That sucks, I’m sorry. This happened to me a few times and every time, I’ve returned the driver for a higher loft or the last time, a higher spin model (ie going from a TSR 3 to 2.  I did try the TSR2 in 8* and it was worm burners all day so finally settled on a 10* turned down). That said, I just picked up a GT3 because again, my spin with the GT2 was higher than what we wanted. Haven’t been to the course with it yet but I have a feeling that within the next 90 days, I’ll prob get the GT2.

I wish that was my problem. I want to like the GT2 but I can't get it to spin enough. 1900 is my max, no matter what shaft. GT3 it is!

I normally play an 8 and had to get the 9 and loft up to get my spin in the window I needed.

Im going to quote myself here as I went to another place for a fitting. Not knocking on the first fitter but this guy really listens to what I want the ball to do.

Im 6ft, 110-112mph clubhead speed, -4 in to out and maybe 2-3 up on avg.

Started with my GT3 and AD DI XSTIFF. Numbers pretty decent  but its doing a push fade which doesnt work for me, I got some answers here saying I should just adapt and set up left and play for a fade but with a -4 path its just not natural and tbh kinda stupid when Im driving one ball every 15 minute at best.

We put in a ad di 6s and instantly the ball turned over. Put in my 1k black stiff and basicly exact same result. Now we could afford to add some spin so we went to a GT2 9* head, but we could do even more and went 10* head loften it up to 11.5. On a really pushed draw spin went up to 2600 but mostly stayed around 2200rpm mark.

Most importantly was probably striked 10 almost identical baby draws down the range, no thinking, no wrestling the clubhead.

All in all I lost 1.5-2 mph ballspeed but I won that carry back with launch window.

Went straight to the range and hit GT3 with Tensei 1k black in stiff, looked way better. AD-DI 6X is benched and if GT3 cant spin enough to keep draws in the air I will get a GT2 instead.

After this Im never giving up all control to the fitter anymore. If it feels less than stellar or if the flight isnt 100% to my liking Im not saying yes anymore 😂

Never just let a fitter make conclusions about your golf clubs if you don't provide feedback - part of fitting is the feedback you give the fitter. You should always view it as a discussion/partnership and be adamant about the factors that you don't want to compromise on. Especially if you are paying for upgraded shafts and such its worth your time and money to let the fitter know what is and is not negotiable. At the end of the day the fitter can give you their best advice but you are the one with the wallet in hand so ultimately that should dictate what is truly "worth it" in terms of spending the $ to upgrade.

Same here. Got fit into 10* GT2 with my current IZ 6S shaft . Coming from TSR3.

GT2 is so stable I'm astounded. I hated TSi2 shape and TSR2 wasn't much better but I don't mind GT2 shape at all. The mishits are going nearly as far as centre strikes with TSR3. I just ordered a GT2 15* to replace the TSR3 15* fairway. 😄
