Titleist GT Driver - anyone fit into it?

Received my GT2 10.0 head today and locked it on a Tour AD UB 5s and this has to be best looking driver on the market. Been staring at all the new stuff at PGA SS and the GT2 shape and sexy gloss black it just perfection.  I love TM drivers, but all the carbon just looks cheap. Love my TSR2, but the minor tweak to the GT2 is down right perfect. Can’t wait to hit it tomorrow.

I had a fitting this past week with Titleist fitter at local range. Going into the fitting I was hoping to tighten driver dispersion and see if my fairway woods were right for me.

I’m currently gaming TSi3 driver with Ventus blue velocore, tsi2 16.5* wood tensei blue, TSr 4 hybrid.

I ended up getting fit for GT3 9* with same ventus blue shaft so ideally I’d only need the head, GT3 15* ventus red 7s, and GT3 18* ventus red 7s. Perfect gapping at 270, 250, 230.

The fitter explained to me that it would be best to order through him/titleist rather than try to “build” the clubs myself through used club options to save some $. He shared that Titleist has some matrix of configurations and hot metal clubs to fit exactly to his recommendations. Does anyone know if that is true?

If you order the driver through the fitter or Titleist, you will pay a premium for the Ventus Blue.  You could order the driver with a stock shaft like the Mitsubishi Tensei 1K Blue, and then use your Ventus and save some $$$.

Yeah that was gonna be my plan. I was shocked the up charge for Ventus red is $375!

I was most curious if the “hot metal” comment was true or not. I would find it hard to believe Titleist is doing this for non-tour players.

It’s hot melt.  Basically it’s a glue the put into the head to tweak the head weight.

Thanks for the correction.

But is there any difference between the club performance to get the pieces and build the fitted club versus ordering direct from Titleist?

Technically you can do or have some ones else do anything Titliest is doing to build out the clubs.

do you have the spec sheet you could post (obscuring any personal information)

it it’s a straight forward build with not tipping or hot melting then yes you can slap it together.

If the build calls for tipping and hotmelting and different head weights then your either going to find an experienced builder to do it for with the components you source, or Order direct through Titliest.

I’d say it’s a very straightforward club build.

I went to my fitting today open to any brand but I did have my eye on the new Cobra, Srixon ZXi, GT2 and Ping G440 Max. Long story short my fitter had me hit the GT1 first and nothing surpassed it through many other head/shaft combos. I was swinging about 90-92 mph with the Denali red 60g in stiff and consistently picked up 8-10 mph ball speed and roughly 25 yards on the total. I then hit a few shots where I got up to 98 mph and what were big pushes to the right with my old driver were 5-7 yard fades. I was pretty blown away.

I'd also say I had a B- swing today so that makes me even more excited to see what happens the more I get this thing dialed in. Overall I was just amazed how forgiving the head was for my swing. I would have never even tried the GT1 without going in.

He also said he added a +6 weight to the back when we were getting it dialed in, which confused me a bit. I guess that just takes it from being a lightweight configuration to standard? I'll have to clarify that when I go in to pick it up.

Yeah, that makes sense.  The lightweight configuration has the Air Speeder shaft which is almost like 20g less than the Denali Red 60g.

It was interesting to hear my fitter talk about how versatile the GT1 head is (yes, every driver head is versatile). Specifically to the GT1 he was saying how many people he's had try it at various lower swing speeds and had good results, even if it wasn't the winner in the end. Most customers he's talked to think it's just an 80 mph head with a giant draw bias.

Got fit into a 9° GT2 with a Tensei Black shaft, and am just obsessed with it.

Played my SIM + HZRDUS Black up until now, as no other driver could compete on sim or course.

It's the perfect balance of distance and forgiveness. Never once have I caught one and felt like it should have gone further, and I have hit some serious bombs with it (which I've never experienced from a "forgiving head"). I have also put some truly God-awful swings on some tee shots and am still in the fairway or just off of them. For me, the consistency of the spin has been the most impressive. My SIM spinrates were all over the map, which led to knuckleball tumblers, and exaggerated duck hooks or fluffy push fades. With the GT2, I just keep hitting my ideal window and it refuses to start too far offline.

I'm not kidding when I say when I miss hit one, give my signature dang missed it grunt before my eyes can catch up to the ball, and then be like "Oh, that's alright". I guess I need to heal from my past driver scars.

My swing speed is just shy of 100mph and I was fit for GT1 with the heavier head and normal shaft. Worked wonders for my game.

Recently made the switch from G430/G440 to GT2 after going through extensive testing and fitting on multiple occasions with multiple vendors.

The top end of my bag has been a struggle for the past season, now its en feugo.

My miss is toe side and the GT2 has kept me not just in play, but long and straight. Compared to the G430 10K and G440 LST, I feel like I have a lot more face control and ability to shape shots as needed. My misses are closer to good shots than they were OB with the Pings.

These Titleist Driver/fairways are the real deal, couldn't be happier. YMMV

Even the GT3 is more forgiving than you think with the CG forward... but has a serious competitor in G440 LST this year

I actually switched from the G440 LST to GT2.

Same loft, same shaft, same numbers, but a gained lot more consistency with the GT2. Bonus points for lot less punishment on my toe side miss.

GT3 was faster than both and slightly less spin, especially on misses but I couldn’t quite get along with it.

Can't decide on GT2 11* with Fuji Ventus White R2, or GT1 10* with Fuji Air Speeder.  They are both better than anything I have played the last four or five years.  I think that the GT2/Ventus White is a little better into the wind.

I'm off to collect a GT2 head today.  Been using GT3 with Ventus Red Velocore+ since March and despite an excellent fitting, my driving stats have deteriorated ever since.  Tried a GT2 head at the T series iron launch this week and it was significantly more forgiving.  Came from a Ping G430LST which wasn't the longest, but consistently found the fairway.

Was playing for the most part of last year callaway TD with ventus black 6x (been playing this shaft for years now), I liked the driver sound wise and feel wise, but from time to time I would get "spinnier" shots (user error) and felt I could find something a little bit more forgiving. I was bored towards the end of the season so I went for a driver fitting. I tried them all with different shaft variations, I thought that ping could be a a winner with the lst head but it was way more "spinnier" for me compare to the gt2. I ended up with a gt2 9degrees with a ventus blue tr 6x. The driver seems to be spinning less on mishits and more forgiving compare to my TD. I've been hitting bombs, with it. I mean long a** carries(for me 310+). Overall can't wait to hit it this upcoming season 🙂

Gt2 longer and more forgiving compared to TD Callaway, for me.

Wondering how you liked the transition from ventus black to blue? I've played black for a few years now (fit into it) and was curious on what a blue would do with my swing. I hit it well, but always thought it felt too boardy.. I think I'm starting to like the thought of some whip in my shafts..

I played black 6x for a while and was fit into Blue 6x tipped an inch this year. Velocore shafts all have a very distinct impact feel which is kind of hard to describe that no other shafts really have - Blue retains that. It feels smoother throughout, more active in the handle and middle but with mostly the same feel through the hit. They're quite a bit easier to turn over than black and you can see a touch more launch and spin on the ball. If your miss is hard left you'll likely do better in the black. I'm considering going back to black as I was cruising in the low 160s for ball speed when I did the fitting and didn't have a big lead leg push. I did some speed and mechanics work and I'm now cruising in the low 170s and I don't like the odd left miss that can come in as it's super penal. I like a flat fade and I think the Black excels at that. That said you see guys like Chef Min Woo who swing it at a buck 30 in a Blue 6x without trouble so who knows 🤷‍♂️

I think it's really player and swing dependant. I played Ventus Black 6x for a while until the shaft snapped above the adapter - but that's a different Ventus story. The black really makes you go after it but this occasionally resulted in the swing becoming too handsy for me and I didn't rotate properly. The resulting hard left dive was disastrous on the course. Blue forces you to swing smoother and find a more deliberate tempo.

I’d agree with that though I find that much more with iron shafts than driver shafts. Weight plays into it too. I tried my buddy’s TR black 7x and could not turn that thing over if I tried.
