ZX5 Long Irons

I’m looking to roll with a blended set of ZX7 and ZX5 in the 4 & 5 irons but noticed there were only 2 degree gaps in the ZX5 long irons. Seems like the gapping would be too close and I’m debating on ordering the 5 iron bent weak. Can anyone else chime in?

Can't help in terms of the 22° 4 iron vs 24° 5 iron as I don't bag the 4 iron. It does seem a strange loft gap. But I will say that I absolutely LOVE my 24° 5 iron. It is an absolute rocket launcher. Bending it 1° weak does make sense if you are combo'ing it with a 28° ZX 7 6 iron.

I originally ordered my set 5-7 ZX5 8-AW ZX7. After noticing how easy to hit and long the 5 iron was I ordered the 4 iron 1/4" longer than standard. It's worked out well.

I recently got a combo set of ZX5 3-5, and ZX7 5-8.  I wanted to try both 5 irons in identical spec (besides the lofts - those were unchanged).  IMO they are actually very similar.  I only carry the ZX5 3-4 more yards over the ZX7 based on my LM numbers.  The flight is a touch higher and faster on the 5.  After a few weeks, my normal set up is ZX5 4i, then ZX7 5i.  

 

If you're coming from TW irons, this may be a consideration.  The ZX7 5i is plenty forgiving.

I am on my second set of Srixon mixed sets. Personally I would bend the 4 iron strong a degree leave the 5 iron and then go into the ZX7 irons. For me that is the best gapping. I have actually switched out the 4 iron for a utility iron at 21* and it works well for me

I have a blended set, currently on the bench but I  played them for about a year.  I went 7-pw ZX7, 5-6 ZX5 and put in a ZX4 4 iron which is 21 degrees.  They all actually blend very well, they are all stock lofts.

I play ZX5 in 3-P and bent the 4i 1* strong and bent the 3i 2* strong. This maintains 3* gaps all the way from the 3i to 6i.

My feel on this is that Srixon decided that for the ZX5 only players, who may swing slower than the ZX7 players, 2 degree gaps between the 5, 4, and 3 would help keep the ball flight higher and more playable.

 

For the blended set, I think ordering the 5 iron 1 degree weak would make sense if you'd like to keep gapping consistent.  A lot of comments that I've seen suggest that the ZX5's go longer than the ZX7's at the same loft, so many are ordering their ZX5's 1 or 2 degrees weak (since the ZX5's are already 1 degree stronger).  I personally have the same blended set that you're suggesting but haven't touched the lofts.  It looks my gap between the ZX7 6 iron and ZX5 5 iron is 15 yards.

Maybe its just me but I find Srixon irons to be some of the most forgiving and consistent irons out there.  I still rock a 565/765 combo set.  The new ones are just silly easy to hit.  I added a ZX4 4i and its a launcher.  I parked a 210yd approach shot on a par5 last week (2nd shot) and the ball was 3ft from the pitch mark, 12 ft from the cup.  Missed the eagle putt of course.

I decided on the exact same set.  Stock lofts.  Could not be happier.  Amazingly consistent and forgiving irons.
