The playoffs suck now. Ever since they went to the 10 below starting score structure I cannot take it seriously. I'm just gonna watch less and play more.

So does it bother you when the #1 seed plays the #8 seed in the NBA playoffs and gets home court advantage?

Or when the top seeded player in match play gets to play the lowest seed?

It’s the exact same thing.  Being #1 all season should afford an advantage in the playoffs.

Despite being up, if you look over a several year period that's still light compared to the majors.

Also if you were to judge fan interest as correlated to the number of tournament pages on the wrx forums it gets even more telling. All Fedex playoff tournament threads combined had less pages than any one of the majors in 2022 (the last time I mined the data).

But that’s not what you said.  You said ratings sucked and nobody cared.  Fans care more about the Tour Championship than any other event except the Majors.  That’s the fact, not opinion.  And all signs point to this year being even bigger.

And you put more stake in the # of pages on this forum than actual ratings and tournament attendance?  🤣

See I think this is an area that golf has drifted out of its lane.  Golf isn't basketball or football.  The playoffs in team sports lead to a championship, the playoffs in golf lead to...more money.  Is there a trophy?  Maybe a cup goes to the winner of the Fed Ex Cup LOL

The playoffs in golf lead to the FedEx Cup ‘Championship’.  With a trophy.  How is it any different than other sports, except for the sponsorship (which in team sports is on the building rather than the event itself?

The PGA Tour created the playoffs to be, you know, a playoff, just like in other sports.  With successive rounds, elimination of players, culminating in one event winner take all.  The strokes are simply a way to address regular season play, no different than any other sport.  It’s surprising to me that golf fans can’t seem to grasp this and think it would be a better, more fair process if just anybody in the Top 70 had an equal chance of being the Tour Champion and get 15 million based on their play over one weekend.  IMO, the only thing that would be better than the current system would be match play, though that would give less benefit to regular season performance.  Would be more exciting though.

Wrx has some of the most ardent golf fans on the planet. If it's not being talked about here then that says a lot whether you agree or not.

So we're to believe that suddenly wrx posters deviate from their normal behavior of posting while watching golf because it's the Fedex cup? I'm not buying that. I say it's because they aren't watching it or just don't care.

Maybe last year the final day of the tour championship drew eyeballs but that was only 1 year and 1 day of 3 playoff events.

I'll consider adjusting my opinion if the ratings remain strong this year.

Just because it's called a championship doesn't elevate it, at least in my mind, any higher than any other event with a good field.  Maybe I'm in the minority but I could care less who wins the Fed Ex Cup...we don't use it for anything relating to historical record or determining the GOAT.  For instance, Bill Haas has a Fed Ex trophy-which I had forgotten all about.  If he wins another, will his career be considered equal to Tiger's who has 2?  Of course not and admittedly that's an extreme example.

Like I said, I get the idea and why it was done.  It just does nothing for me and I could care less who wins the playoffs or Fed Ex cup.  The match play idea would be interesting, it would be even more interesting if the PGA Championship went back to Match play.  I'd be ok with it staying in May if that was the case.

Well said @Bigjim1022 - I kinda hate when the shuffled the majors and shortened the season quite a bit...it goes by way too quick now.  While the Tour Championship has been relatively tame, East Lake does put on a great tournament each year, and I'm excited to see the renovation.

I, for one, will be playing my usual 3-4 rounds a week, working two shifts as a starter to earn the free golf to play those rounds and living a normal, non-WRX life not obsessing about which golf announcer needs to go, who sucks the most on tour and that other league. Frankly, it makes no sense, as I have no control over their lives or futures. Go figure.  😊

I will be fantasy shopping for new and different Japanese Domestic Market golf equipment.

Just boring, I guess.

I'll still be chugging along with my own golf grind, so there's that.

On the sports consumption front, F1 and NASCAR are still there for my Sunday racing fix, and the triumvirate of Auburn, Blackburn (my favorite soccer team in England) and the Falcons are about to resume their respective missions of ruining my weekends. 😂

It's hot as hell here in Japan. I won't think about golfing until the end of August.

This year I've been really strong with my grass mowing game and the bermuda is coming in thick and relatively lush, so gonna mow it right down for September October - gonna get the putters out, hopefully.

Other than that hit the beach with the kids, try to hit balls at least once a week and snag a few wedges at some point.

Golf is on in the morning here and I typically turn on the TV and surf the net with a coffee, so that won't change. If there's good golf, I'll probably see it, but I never watch all that much.

I agree with @BlackDiamondPar5... TV rating has to be falling - thanks to the rising popularity of streaming.  We've switched to steaming and like it.  We were able to effortlessly watch The Open and TDF stages and Mountain shows.   Never gave a whoop about FedEx... it's a joke.  The Open is my favorite event.

But all in all, golf has been evolving into nothing more than a money grab and misleading crap from the press.

Lived in Tokyo for awhile and played a bit as part of a club.

Yes, the heat and humidity are oppressive.

When the weather is reasonable, golf in Japan is a fantastic experience : )

No. Match play is great. The number one seed already has an advantage over the 8 by being a better player. Starting with a predetermined score should not be counted as a tour win. If they settled it with match play I would be all in.

Nice. I'm in Kyoto - they say it's the worst for heat and humidity in the country. So, I've got that to contend with. I use a rain glove from April to October. Surprisingly they don't sell very good one's here, so I stock up when I go back to NA.

Most of my golf is played at local prefecture events. We get to play a few private clubs a year, so I've seen some absolute gems. There are a lot of courses I'd like to play, but when you are lucky to get out twice a month (with the kids and the cost), you'll take just about anywhere.

Despite playing so little, some might think it's insane how much time I spend thinking about the game.

Was in Kyoto in winter and as a California boy, it was cold!

I was at Tokyo American Club. We played mostly in Chiba or Narita.

It was the full experience; caddies, breakfast, lunch, onsen, whisky, cigars, bus back to Tokyo late at night.

Expensive but a blast : )

Come over to the dark side! UGA bandwagon still has room...Clemson is only 19 days away!

Little known Clemson trivia:

The school used to be known as "Clem" but when it became a university, they added the "son". It stands for :

Chivalry

Honor

Knowledge...
