Looking for any advice

Over the last 2 weeks I've been hitting the ball worse than I have in a long while. Fats and hooks have been my miss with the occasional pull. I felt like I was hitting the ball fairly well here, lots of good contact.

As soon as I saw that video I thought exactly the same thing. My car would be dented, windows smashed, holes in the wall and maybe even my head.

Classic using your arms too much in the takeaway. You get the club deep, which is good, but the way you did is without shoulder rotation. You basically throw the clubhead behind and get stuck.

 

I recommend working on a different takeaway. Instead of moving your arms back, keep your arms in front of your chest and just turn your shoulders as much as you can. This will get the club deep. The only other part of the backswing you should need is to set the wrists upward. You can move your arms up instead of back to get the wrist set. But, the most important thing is to get the wrists to set earlier and upward.

 

Larry explains how the takeaway should work really well here. Just work on takeaway for awhile and see how that helps things.

Just now seeing your reply.  I wonder if this is something that working with a smartball would help with.  I used to have a REALLY long backswing, mostly arms, which I'm still working on.  I know feel isn't real, but it doesn't feel like I'm getting the club far enough back with a shoulder turn, so my arms take over.

It can, but u have to be careful. It really only works for short swings, training the bottom of the arc. It would help the rotation part, but not the arm raise or wrist set. You gotta get the arms moving above the plane at some point, and simply tilting upward isnt the answer.

 

I know how u feel. I had a long backswing most of my life. It took a long time to get comfortable with a shorter backswing, but it really helped me turn more through the shot. My ballstriking has bever been better.

 

Long backswings can work if they are a result of great flexibility from a massive turn, not from throwing the arms all the way back there.
