Hzrdus Black Gen 5

Has anyone had the chance to swing the new gen 5? The gen 4 black is my go to shaft and Im very curious to see how the 5 compares. Looks like the torque rating is slightly lower and its a few grams heavier in the 6.0 60g that I use. I know its a stock offering on the new titleist gt drivers.

Off the cuff, seems like a "TR" version of Gen4. I'll try it. Been playing EF, RDX, Gen4, etc and loved them all...so might as well evolve....

It's probably just because the flex won't sell much so they won't get as big of a break on the pricing from TT and it'll be a pain to stock TX.

I kinda doubt that’s the reason. It’s only offered as a custom option and I’m sure people with higher swing-speeds won’t have an issue with spending an extra $40 for TX; pretty much no other OEM offers TX flex for Hzdrus shafts so it’s almost a rarity. Might be a good, cost-effective, alternative to say Ventus TR Black. TX Hzdrus has decent usage on Tour. The $40 up-charge could simply be that TT has less TX’s to supply. Also possible that it has “superior” materials, like we’ve seen in some other models when making the jump from 6.5 to TX flex. Who knows about the materials. Materials aside, TX flex usually has a much different shaft profile entirely compared to 6.5 for project x; meaning it’s not simply a progression in flex.

Personally i’m glad Titleist at least offers it.

Wholesale in the TX from TT is the same.  The Tenseis used more exotic materials to make them stiffer which accounted for the upcharge but wholesale from Mitsubishi reflected that as well.  It could be that they are just sticking it to higher swing speeds, but I have a feeling it has more to do with demand not being sufficient to stock enough TX to drive the cost of stocking and building them down.

If Titleist had to stock an equal number of units in TX as the other flexes, you might be right. If not, then it might be due lower supply/availability of TX on TT’s end. Or just Titleist choosing to stock less TT in general and TT not being their main supplier or “partner”, because other TT shafts that aren’t even TX have a slight up-charge as well (Riptide, Hzdrus Blue). Could be a number or factors. Just guessing at this point. But

still nice to see TX at least being offered, since they’re often times a much different shaft (even if equal materials) in terms of profile; at least that’s been the case for many other Hzdrus and EvenFlow models, but it’s hard to decipher with TT these days.

And Tensai’s in TX are actually no upcharge from Titleist btw, not sure if that has always been the case but they’ve been no upcharge the past few years

I know this is WRX and everybody plays TX but you'd be shocked at how few they will sell.  Also, with TX players they have sort of been groomed to just buy something off the rack and reuse their old shaft due to the lack of availability in the past.  A small upcharge does beat not having access to special ordering what you want.

The Tensei TXs that were an upcharge and used more exotic materials usually had a number after them like the Tensei Pro White TX 2.0.  The newer Tensei 1Ks in TX are just a progression from X to TX just like going from S to X.  Wholesale direct from Mitsubishi is the same for X and TX in the 1Ks now where the Pro White 2.0 was quite a bit more than the Pro White.

I can’t speak on these new 1K’s. But I was referring to the Av Raw series where the TX, offered at no upcharge (as shown in picture), has more exotic materials. Pretty sure I recall @MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL confirming this in an old thread about this. The 1kPro lineup (and whatever it’s predecessor was called) has always been an uncharge shaft regardless of flex, that’s there ultra-premium lineup

I went to a GT fitting event back in July and the two best shafts for me were the Ventus TR Black 6X & the Hzrdus Gen 5 6.5.  I got higher swing & ball speed with the Gen5 and slightly more distance. To me, the Gen 5 compared favorably from a performance standpoint to the Ventus TR Black.  It only lost out slightly in terms of feel at impact where the TR Black felt a tad more stable. Initially, I placed my order for the GT3 with the Ventus TR, but later changed my order to the Hzrdus Gen 5 and found a TR Black off secondary.

I’ve been playing the gen 4 in driver, 4 wood and 4 iron and it’s been a great shaft for me.  I’ve tried a few other shafts but keep going back to Hzrdus.

I hit the 5g at a Titleist fitting in driver and 4 wood and it was awesome.  Can’t say I was able to really tell a difference in feel from a one hour fitting but the shaft just works for me.  It would probably be interesting to test the 4g and 5g in a head to head matchup but they seemed very similar to me.  I do like the look of the 5g better with the carbon weave without it being too much in graphics.

I got fitted into the new hzrdus black gen 5 today. 70g 6.5. I’m coming from a ventus tr black 7x.

How do you find it? What is your swing speed and ball speed and distance? What is your ball flight/swing pat?. Very curious thanks because I also got fitted with this exact shaft and spec for a 115mph swing speed with a push draw swing path and 165mph ball speed. Total distance around 305-315yards.
Haven’t followed through with the purchase yet.

115-118 swing speed

170-175 ball speed

295-300 carry

Primarily play a fade, but can also hit a draw

I really liked it. Mine came in yesterday. I’m taking it to the range tomorrow.

Let me know your thoughts on it. I am very tempted to pick one up. Right now my gen 4 has been de-throned by a denali black 6.5 but a gen 5 may take the spot back.

I've had a chance to hit Gen 5 a few times over the last month.  HZRDUS succeeded in finally creating a better feeling Black shaft.  It's firm but not dead stout.   I preferred it over other stock shafts in Tensei iK Black and 1K Blue in terms of feel and performance.

Still haven’t decided if I like Gen 5 or not.  I absolutely love Gen 4.  My first round out with Gen 5 was also with a new driver head so a lot of variables going on and just general uncertainty you get with attempting to replace something that you are comfortable with.  Will give it another run this weekend but more than ok if I decide to ultimately go back to Gen 4 or Ventus Black which both work for me.

Just got a Gen5 TX. Been playing the Gen4 TX, which I didn't find all that stiff/firm, compared to say a TR Black 60-x, which felt substantially more stout to me. Hoping the Get5 will be a bit more stout, it is 4-5 grams heavier than my Gen4. I'll try to at least hit a few balls with it this week.

I cannot compare to gen4, but the gen5 70g 6.0 flat out performed in the Titleist fairways for me. I’m 110 with driver, 103-104 with fairway. I have not traditionally cared for hzrdus shafts, but my swing has changed a bit. It brought my peak height and spin down to a nice flight window. I need to find a pull now.

Not sure if this should be in this thread or not, but going to give it a shot. In love with the Smoke Black RDX 6.5. Play it in 3 wood and hybrids. Picked up a GT4 head and debating what shaft to match it with. Had the Black Gen 4 in the TSR4 and hated it. It felt dead to me. Gaming the AiSmoke TD with the Denali Black 6.5 and it's a bomber power cut consistently. Curious how the Gen 5 profiles out compared to the 4 and why the RDX is so perfect for me. Could just throw the RDX in the GT4, but curious if the Gen 5 offers any noticeable improvement.

Any more feedback on this shaft? Back in my Gen 4 6.0 in driver and want to grab a Gen 5. Can’t decide if I should go 6.0 or 6.5. I hover around 108-110 as and 160ish ball speed.

Did you ever grab one to try? I have similar speeds to you and grabbed a 6.0 70g for my fairway, but thinking I want to try it in driver first.

I'm basing this on one range session using a 15 degree TSR3 and an 18 degree TSR1 both with HZRDUS Black Gen 4. Then swapping out to Gen 5 in a second range session.

I was getting a lot of height with the Gen 4 (actually very similar to a Tensei Blue), the Gen 5 much much lower, not even close. Flight totally different. I'm a high, spinny player generally so I'm going to give the Gen 5 a good go over the next few weeks.
